What did you do to your Kia Stinger today?

To give an update on my Ark midpipes, Magnaflow catback & exhaust tips install this past Thursday, it has overall been good.

Two things that have been good:
1. The look and sound is great, it has a nice deep rumble to it, and I love the look of the akrapovic carbon fiber tips.
2. Over the weekend, and tracking with my Draggy app, I got to 60MPH in 4.37 seconds on a full tank of gas with temp around 50 degrees F. My previous best was 4.55 seconds, and that was with less than a gallon in the tank with temp around 45 degrees F. With the VT Big Mouths and this exhaust it definitely feels a bit quicker...at least my Draggy times show it.

Two things that aren't so good, one more than the other:
1. The far outer passenger side exhaust tip is rubbing a little on the plastic bumper cutout, even after using a dremel. Need to think of a way to stop that from happening.
2. Yesterday morning I accelerated out of a stop light, there was a loss of power then the check engine light came on. I got home and plugged in the OBD2 scanner and saw the code was P0234 (Engine Overboost Condition). The temp was around 20 degrees F when it happened. I had to work throughout the day, then started it back up in the evening and the check engine light was off. I went for a quick 15 minute drive, and she was back to normal, drove beautifully. Not sure what it was, maybe the wastegate was stuck? Bad sensor? Or do these cars just not like driving aggressive in cold weather?

I've heard of overboosting from installing aftermarket primary (catless) downpipes, but not from the midpipes and catback. I'm keeping an eye out and being cautious, hoping this doesn't happen again. And if it does, should I contact the dealer to have them check the wastegate sensor?

Is there any way you could tweak the hanger on the muffler? Just enough to center the outlets a little more. Obviously the rubber hanger will still bounce some. Sounds like you dont have far to move. Or time to take the dremel out again.

I'm at Jerry Seiner Kia in South Jordan, getting an oil change and multi-point inspection. Brake pads (OE) still at 8mm (they start at 10), at 41K miles. I must be a unicorn. Actually, I think that the way I use my brakes (being how Dad taught me) is the main factor here; and also why I've never had shudder or pad deposits.

I'm also getting the "SC196A NEW FUSE KIT IN JUNCTION BOX" recall done.

As a point of interest, perhaps......my akrapovic carbon fiber tips also touch the plastic bumper a little. When first installed I was worried they would vibrate and rattle and/or get too hot and melt the bumper. After almost a year neither of these has become a concern or issue. Just my 2 cents of experience bro.

When first installed I was worried they would vibrate and rattle and/or get too hot and melt the bumper. After almost a year neither of these has become a concern or issue. Just my 2 cents of experience bro.

I believe they don’t get hot because of the dual layer (mine are squeezed in tightly) l. I’ve touched them after running the car at high speed and nothing. They also stick out a little further than stock so I think that helps as well.

Is there any way you could tweak the hanger on the muffler? Just enough to center the outlets a little more. Obviously the rubber hanger will still bounce some. Sounds like you dont have far to move. Or time to take the dremel out again.

I might be able to do that. I was trying not to bend any of the hangers yet, but if it comes down to it I'll give it a try. Nope, not far to move at all. There is about a 1/16th of an inch gap, but it's enough to vibrate against the bumper. There are small scratches on the tip and I can hear it when accelerating with the RPMs around 2500, it sounds like it's coming from that back right tip hitting the bumper. I may take off the tip and go for a spin to see.

Interesting. I'm not sure. Kia being extra cautious on the 2021 turbos?

Received and installed my new rims and tires! FedEx showed up a couple of days early.

TSW Neptune in matte bronze finish
Front - 19x8.5 ET30 (24 lbs/ea) with Michelin PS4S 225/40
Rear - 19x9.5 ET39 (23 lbs/ea) with Michelin PS4S 255/35

The color is exactly what I wanted. The bronze tone matches the dark chrome accents and the red so well. I dipped the OEM wheels Brass Monkey a couple of summers ago and I never fell out of love with that color, but wanted a more aggressive and lighter wheel. The offset is perfect IMO; flush with the top of the fender.



Big thanks to Jason at @GetYourWheels for providing excellent customer service and answering all of my questions. The install kit provided was perfect. It came with lugs (I requested black), an adapter tool, and hub rings.

I've got to get out and re-sync the new TPMS sensors. My car has been sitting for two weeks because I make bad decisions, AKA let the tires get too worn For those interested, here's the original rear Michelin PS4 after 19K miles:


One had a belt peeking through, while the other had a plug that was hanging tough. The front's have 6k miles less, so they are still above the wear bars.

I'm going to get some better pics once the rain passes and I get a chance to wash everything.

Lol. You've been peeling out, you naughty. I got c. 14K miles out of my OE PS4 rears. The wear was pretty even. But 4K miles later, my OE PS4 fronts had worn down on the edges; the center tread could have gone several thousand miles further. On these PS4S I am running higher psi to see if the wear will be evened out. Still a "work in progress". (I get them put back on again, with the TSW wheels, tomorrow afternoon.)

But 4K miles later, my OE PS4 fronts had worn down on the edges; the center tread could have gone several thousand miles further. On these PS4S I am running higher psi to see if the wear will be evened out. Still a "work in progress". (I get them put back on again, with the TSW wheels, tomorrow afternoon.)

Haha - yeah, I got my money's worth. The OE tires were over-filled from the dealer and I rode a few months on them ~45psi when I didn't know any better. The centers wore first on the rear. I tried to run them under inflated to balance out the wear, but I'm not sure it worked too well. I'm starting these at 35psi all around and seeing how that goes.

Got my summer wheels and tires back on. They said that the inside edges of the rear tires are getting pretty worn. I asked what would be causing that and his guess was that I am cornering pretty hard quite a bit. I asked, "Why does that affect the inside edges particularly?" And he said something about camber and something else. I asked if I need to do anything about that. And he said that because the wear is generally even over both tires, no to that. "Just keep an eye on it. I guess you've got probably closer to four thousand miles rather than five thousand miles left." How convenient: right about the time I get another oil change. Looks like I will be getting new PS4S on the rear about the time I put these to bed for the winter: so, I'll be ready to go come next spring.
