Stinger Brake Pads Replacement

Centric / Posi quiet are the same company. Posi Quiet

For performance - the friction coefficients (both cold and hot) are usually stamped right on the pads (edge code).

The OEM pads on the stinger are FG (both front and rear)
The Centric pads I installed are FF (both front and rear) - so slightly MORE pedal effort would be required for these aftermarket pads VS oem - when hot.

The first letter of the code represents the normal friction coefficient. This is defined as the average of four test data points measured at 200, 250, 300 and 400 degrees Farenheit.

The second letter is the hot friction coefficient is defined as the average of 10 data points located at 400 and 300F. On the first recovery cycle of the pad; 450, 500, 550, 600 and 650F. On the second fade cycle; and 500, 400, and 300F on the second recovery cycle.

Each code letter are as follows:
C = less than 0.15
D= 0.15 to 0.25
E= 0.25 to 0.35
F= 0.35 to 0.45
G= 0.45 to 0.55
H= over 0.55

Some more deets and pics here
Looks like im going to try these next, just arrived today.

Rockauto, very quick delivery (3 day), and even after shipping and brokerage, still best price

Total including shipping was under $150CAD (about $110 USD - there was a $5.00 - 21mm impact socket included in the price). There US to Canadian exchange is, not too favourably for Canadians.

FG is the OEM Brembo friction coefficients (both front and rear)

Dynamic Friction DFC 5000 Advance
GG for front (made in Korea)
GH for rear (made in China)

I had these on the rear and removed them because the squealed like crazy. Just a heads up.

Thanks for the heads up.
I just hope they don't cause pulsations

I can tolerate/mitigate noises.

Akebono ASP1001
Bosch Quietcast Ceramic. BC1001

Yes they work, I have used both sets.

I have the Bosch in right now and really like them, good initial bite, low dust and so far no fade.

Is there any clunking noise issues the PowerStops are known for with the Bosch pads?

I don't have any. And if I did my wife would quickly point it out to me, lol

The clunk is why I didn't get the Power Stop ones myself.

Been 5k kms - still smooth, with no noises. Happy customer.

Just to clarify for a new owner (me. I pick up my car on Friday):
Is this brake issue still a problem on new Stingers (2023), and is it a problem with all brake types, Brembo or not?
I'm excited about the car, but thinking this brake pad issue is a bit of a bummer.
Should I replace the front pads right away, as a preventative measure on the new car?

If you have the Brembo brakes, I would.

you have a bit of time, you don't need to do it the day you roll off the lot. but yes, within the first 5k miles for sure swap those suckers out. mine made it to about 12k before I started feeling a very mild shudder so I swapped them out then and haven't had the problem since, another 12k later.

it's a real easy job, only the wheel has to come off. the calipers are fixed so you just tap two retaining pins out and the pads come out.

Brembo - yes. Kia & Brembo have not updated the parts/pads

Yes - I would, at your earliest convenience. It's not very expensive, and quite simple if you are mechanically inclined.

Sounds like a plan.
Yes, I am mechanically inclined. Brake jobs are easy for me. Done lots of them.
Without going through this whole thread, is there any particular brand(s) I should be considering? I'm in Ontario, Canada.

EBC Reds
DFC 5000 Ceramic
Bosch Quietcast Ceramic
Hawk Performance Ceramic
Porterfield R4-S

To name a few

These are very economical, and working very well for me presently. Only have 5k KMs on them so far, but zero pulsations or noises thus far.

Purchased in April 2023

This was the all inclusive price, to my door in $CAD - from Rockauto.com

Question for anyone who has used the Bosch pads. Are they the same part number for front and rear brakes?

Negative

BC2144 for the rear

The update no one asked for. The stinger is now at 45k with no pad issues. Really not sure what causes the build up for some but not all.

Yes, the brake pads are still an issue for the '23 models, unfortunately. I would wait til you start to feel issues with the brakes before swapping them out. I recommend going with our K8SS Elite Sport Ceramic Brake Pads: (FOUND HERE).

Very interesting thread, to say the least.
I happened to peruse a Genesis forum, and came across the brake pad thread for the G70.
I guess it's basically the Stinger in different clothes, with the same brake issue.
It was 26 pages long, if memory serves me correctly. My head was spinning as I was going through it.
They talked a lot about red, blue, yellow EBC stuff, which I don't understand.
I'm not racing my car, so I'd be looking for something that would work for a daily driver type of environment.
The more I read, the confuser I get....lol
