So I installed Borla exhaust

So, people are installing borla exhaust, because they dont like how quite the stock one is. And after installation, they start putting sound deadening materials and exhaust tips to make it quieter. I got it!

Without the tips it sounded bad. Reminded me of a old Chevy lumina or something like that with a leaky exhaust. As for the sound deadening, it was fairly loud in the cabin. That didn’t do much anyway.

Not all of us do that, if I wanted quiet I'd have left the stock exhaust on it, but I get what your saying

Too right its about cancelling the drone and reverb not the exhaust engine sound. The back hatch area acts like an amphitheatre for amplifying drone. Sound proofing that area helps vastly.

I put a borla downpipe-back exhaust on my WRX and when I ordered it, I meant to get the "stealth" version, but instead, I got the "loud" version, I had mixed up the part no.s. Turned out that it was a crazy deep rumble, I kept it on. I would pull up to a drive-through and literally I was sitting right there while the person looked around for the "big v8 car" that was sitting nearby. It was definitely not typical for a WRX. The wagon seemed to amplify it too. Tip was classy, no a big fart can, but a single oval that was in the same spot as stock.

As @Ozstung said, it's not the exhaust note that's the issue (I like that), but the reverberation that is coming through the hatch. I've been lazy about putting in the sound deadening, but will do it soon.

As you know the exhaust tips are not fully functional they sit ahead of the actual mufflers and that's the biggest cause of the cabin drone, so here's an idea (that I've already seen in practice) the exhaust tips are one piece (per side) held on the bumper cover with 2 bolts if you remove those and get (preferably carbon) fiber tips that bolt directly to the mufflers and you should have just enough room to come through the bumper cover, there's a stinger owner who has a YouTube channel and he did this (and made a video about it) over a year ago without issue This might be something for you to consider, I'll be doing it myself in the not to distant future

Unfortunately the 2022 model year we are kind of stuck since they decided to separate them into two separate openings and make them abnormally large. I haven’t seen anyone yet to try doing something with those tips.

I think you can still apply the same method but it may require some trimming of the lower valance. Or you could swap out the lower valance for the one from the 18-21 model. Personally, I think Kia made a mistake with going with those giant tips, they look out of place on this car.

Yup, putting aftermarket tips in is a common fix. I installed carbon fiber oval tips the same time I installed the Borla. But, as some people mentioned, there's some resonance reverberating through the hatch. The sound deadening I'm putting in to alleviate that.

Yeah I think swapping maybe the way to go because cutting it you would to have to place some giant freaking tips in that gap to cover it up and I feel like it would look really out of place.

I noticed that you have the 2022. With your custom exhaust, did you just keep the stock tips, or did you swap it out for large aftermarket tips?

It’s still the stock tips didn’t want to change that out because I couldn’t find anything that would have fit in the openings and had looked somewhat decent. So the exhaust pipping is positioned a bit further up inside the non-functional stock tips to help reduce the drone

Which tips are recommended for the Borla? I have only been able to find $1000 CF ones. That's nearly the price of the full system! No thanks. Can anyone please share cheaper tips that work well with the Borla and reduce/eliminate the nasty cabin drone? Even looking at people's sigs, I can't figure out what the go-to tips are. At the moment, anything below 2500 rpms is terrible. Sounds like a dump truck.

There's a number of tip recommendations, but for me, I went with oval slanted tips (in carbon fiber), 51mm inlet, 105mm outlet. It fit perfecty. You can get rounded tips, but you may have to some dremeling to the space for them to fit.

Bottom line, any set of aftermarket tips that attach to the pipes directly should help. I installed the tips when I installed my Borla, so I don't know how it sounds with the stock tips, which don't attach directly to the exhaust. If after install you still don't like the sound, it's likely the resonation at low rpm (it's not drone) coming from the trunk. You can reduce the noise by putting sound deadening in the trunk. I have a set that I plan to put in at some point, but been lazy, and I'm mostly fine with the sound.

Something else. I got mine from AliExpress around $140/set (I think). There's all kinds of variations from gloss black, a cover on top of the top, rounded, oval, etc.

the official Borla tips don't do anything other than burn a hole in your wallet. aliexpress clamp on tips is what you want for drone reduction.
