So I installed Borla exhaust

People have different ideas of what drone is. I think drone is highway speeds, no hills just flat and if there is a droning buzz, then that would be something I might get annoyed by. My borla with exhaust tips in comfort mode when cruising I can barely hear it at all. Now when I am around the city driving around, you will hear it and at lower speeds. I enjoy hearing the exhaust so it doesn't bother me at all. Even a little drone wouldn't bother me. You could also add sound deading to the spare tire area which I have heard will help.

One thing I did notice is the exhaust when it was brand new sounded raspy and I didn't like it as much as I do now once the pipes were broken in. I absolutely love it now. I am looking at adding some secondary's to make it a little louder too. I just could not stand how quiet the car was stock.

Yeah mine is raspy between around 2500 -3000 when I get on it. I also have a jun BL mid pipe so that probably makes it louder than just the borla along. Looking forward to see how it turns out after a few hundred more miles.

Yeah. Me too. Added my Jun BL to my existing Borla about 3 or so weeks ago. I ordered BMS EWG wires though because I find I have some overboost issues at times. When I first got the Borla it was raspy and then broke in nice. It took about a month or so. Jun BL definitely adds more depth to just Borla alone. If the EWG wires straighten out the boost issues I may move to the HFC primaries next.

Just got my Borla yesterday, waiting to install it when the Jun BL secondaries come in. Any suggestions or advice on the removal from OEM secondaries to the fake exhaust tips?
(only using jack stands and ramps btw)

For removal I would start from the back and work your way towards the front of the car. If you are replacing the tips, remove those when the exhaust is off. Install in reverse. It’s pretty straight forward. Spray some wd40 or something similar on all the hardware ahead of time if u can.

Ok the Borla S type is the real deal had it on with the chrome extented tips and no drone, reverb or vibration. Unlike my previous Ark all the sound comes out of the end. Almost seems strange its that good.

Sound is as mentioned by others quiet raspy. This should deepen when it carbons up. All in pleasantly surprised. It will interesting to get it back on the dyno and see if ive retained all them horses.

So I haven’t driven the car too much because I’m working from home but since last post I made an adjustment to the tips. I have pushed the inside tip as far back as it goes and pushed the outside tip a little further in. This made a noticeable difference.
Yesterday I put dynamat sound reading in the trunk. I put a 5 pack (20 sqft) and used up just about all of it. There are lots of scraps when cutting different sections. I would say there was a 30% or so improvement. $100 and a few hours for install.

My tips are at the furthest point possible.. outwards, what difference did it make making them closer to the car? I did the trunk the same time as the tips so I couldnt really tell how much it helped. Lookin goood!!!

Pushing them back help with the raspyness.

Thought I'd chime in since I've installed my Borla recently. I did which appears to be the same tips as yours, but mine potrude out more (see pic). So pushing them closer to the car did reduce that rasp? I also bought sound deadening and plan to do this over the weekend. Did you put deadening on just the trunk? What about the underside of the trunk floor cover?

At the time I thought pushing them in helped. The raspiness is only an issue for me between 2500-3000. Above that at full throttle sounds exotic. I was actually just thinking about messing with the pipes again to see if there is a difference since it’s been almost 1000 miles.
As for sound deadening, I only put it in the trunk. I removed everything except the battery maybe. I put some pics up after.

I also did sound deadening in the trunk. Not sure if it really helped. The sound definitely changed after break in,I’ve put around 5k on it so far

Yeah I’d say it reduced maybe 20%-30%

I installed the Borla S on my GTS about a month ago, it added just the right amount of snap, crackle, burble, growl and pop! Something Kia should have done at the factory!

Yeah, that was unexpected, I have noticed some burbling while driving. Like it!

So, people are installing borla exhaust, because they dont like how quite the stock one is. And after installation, they start putting sound deadening materials and exhaust tips to make it quieter. I got it!

lol if anything I want it louder now since it fixed the reverb. just the specific tone of it echoing in the hatch is unpleasant to my ears :)
