Kia Stinger Navigation Map Update

Just did the update this morn, went from 13.5 to 14.5 on an 18 and I have the nature sounds now.
Thanks! We do have the same version and my mistake, I do have the nature sounds. I hadn't looked in "All Menus" as my media restored to using my USB for music as it was prior to the update. After approximately one minute trying them out, I can assure you they will never be used again as long as I am in the car :)

OH...Good that you found it....As I mentioned back in Post #784...

I'm having an issues just getting the Updater to start. It keeps complaining about the network not being connected. I've turned off my Windows Firewall but same issue. Anyone else run into this?

Thanks!

I would love to know how to DISABLE the auto-play of the newly-introduced Sounds Of Nature. Every time I press the Media button it always starts to play the nature sounds. I prefer that only to happen when I actually press Play on that new feature.

I think if you use any other media before you exit it will default back to that and wont go right to nature sounds.

True as long as the previously used media is still available. For example I stream via Bluetooth a lot. When I start the car if Bluetooth was the last used option it will return to bluetooth and wait for the phone to connect. However if it is on radio and I switch to media before my phone connects then the stupid nature sounds kick in

Just installed the latest map update on my 2020 Kia Stinger GT- Canada Version. Took 20 minutes to update and went great.

did mine last night (Wed) and although it was slow it was a smooth process and now I got nature sounds! Cant beat the price! I used my original SD card which I saved after Kia updated me from the outdated software I got in my new Stinger in April 2018.

Likewise. Now it seems like a quicker response, I have WiFi, the map presentation is different and better. This is with the "Summer 2020" update, compared to the update I did in April or so and of course the version numbers are different.

I tried to update from USB and although it appeared to update, shows the Sound of Nature and new version, the main screen says "Navigation unavailable, please update..." after several tries. Just my luck, any suggestions?

I did the update by copying the update files to the original sd card and it upated from there. And worked fine. usb has always been spotty for me.

Tried and True Method...lol

1. Take your original SD card from your car.
2. On Your PC/MAC - Create a folder and then copy the SD Card to this folder (For Backup)
3. Format your SD Card
4. Log On to The Map Update Site and download update file to PC/MAC
5. Once download complete transfer the downloaded file to your SD Card
6. Take the Card to your car and proceed with the update as per instructions

Found this to be a failsafe method in case of failed update, or file corruption. You will have your original file in the Folder you created.

Where does it say you can update via USB?

Follow the instructions for SD card and it will work.

That being said, almost every other car uses USB or even wi-fi to update, so too bad we have a system so outdated.

The "Navigation Updater" instruction imply/indicate that a USB can be used and allowed the update to be copied to the USB. It just failed to complete/finalize in the car.

That said - I have never used SD cards but use USB routinely. My PC is ~6-7 years old with an all black front bezel. I had presumed there was no SD drive... however...noting the 4 "slots" on the top that I thought were "cooling vents" turned out to be a collection of card slots labeled in tiny gray font! So, I updated my SD card and completed update in the car.

So - I thought I'd admit my ignorance. At least I put my mud flaps on the correct side of the wheels! ;)

Thanks for your input.

It doesn't say you can use USB to update. You can download the update onto a hard drive or USB, either of which needs to be transferred to an SD card for the purposes of updating the car. As several others on here have noted, if you want to take a small risk, you can copy over the existing card that is already in your car. A 32 GB SD card is about $8 at a Staples, etc.

Kinda says you can use USB...
Does the actual Navigation Updater software that you installed on your computer tell you SD card or USB? The generic instructions on the Website may apply to newer or other models, where I hope they do allow USB as per my comment earlier about other cars. Our other car can use wi-fi to update (just park in the driveway beside the house and connect) or USB. My Stinger already has a permanent Internet connection of its own, yet cannot update over the air or by USB... Where is the problem here?

Oh, and the new software that is now available is 10 times better than what existed in 2018 and early 2019. Updating then was almost incomprehensible due to the purchase procedures and accompanying security/copy protection. Not smart when the only way you can get essential UI updates is behind the map updating process.

The Nav Updater implies by showing graphics which look like both/either SD/USB. It allows you to select the USB and download. It even goes through the update process using the USB in the car. The Nav showed the updated version and even had the "Sounds of Nature" but never apparently could complete/finalize the update as it stated "Navigation unavailable, please update..." I tried several times and then finally realized I actually had an SD card slot that I had never used! Updated the stock card and update worked using that. I hate inscrutability! But I'm glad the software is measurably better.
