Keep going, after I entered my VIN, I got a "you are eligible for a free upgrade" and it spits out a coupon code that you enter at checkout, but up to that point it looks like you have to pay for it

(edit) It's a slow process too... I feel that 35min is more than a little optimistic
RE-edit - i mis-read, it's states it is about 2-3 hours... more accurate

I decided to call and get my one free update, but "Ed" said the current was August and a new one should be out in the next month or two. So I'll just check the update site now and then, and call back when it's released.

It is a very overly-complicated process to not pay to get the files, then get them in a format that will install in the car. KIA is so clueless they forgot that all Canadian cars have telematics and a truly idiot-proof over-the-air update could have been implemented. You know, the way Subaru, Ford and 15 other car companies do it (even without telematics, just using wi-fi).

I will say the way they executed this is very poor... and needs work.

HOT TIP - when you get to the part that tells you to "GET CODE" on the website... THERE IS NO "GET CODE" link... you click "DOWNLOAD" SMH

Wrong. Maps can be updated with only the incremental changes. For example, Google Maps or MAPS.ME does this. Other providers do total overwrite updates. Our Subaru clearly uses the incremental approach (they also started offering free maps updates, by the way) based on how quickly it updated over wi-fi.

No, the US is the exception in that case. And their cars still have modems, they just don't have a carrier arrangement negotiated by KIA USA.

The update only applies to cars of that region, i.e. Canadian updates only work on Candadian market Nav systems. They include all of North America but will not load on a US vehicle.

The maps are for North America, and they are keyed to the SD card - i.e. not transferable/copyable, not even in within the same locale.

Does anyone know how to check revision history, i.e. when different versions were released?

I checked the site earlier and realized there's only version info. As I posted above, the Kia rep told me a new version would be released soon so just check the site, but now I have, I see there's no date anywhere (and I have no idea what version was available when I called a few weeks ago..)

I also checked the associated release notes.

I'm not in any hurry, I don't use the built-in nav., but just figured I might as well get the latest software updates as well.

I purchased a 2019 Kia Stinger GT a few weeks ago and it came with v12.5. Called Kia customer service and they recommended to wait until January as v14 will be out then. At least they are offering me one free update since I just purchased my car. I'm thankful for a free update, but it's sort of ridiculous that updates are ~$140 when they primarily fix issues with the entertainment system along with minor revisions to the maps...

Does anyone know if there's a way to update the firmware on the GT since it has no SD card?

The dealer said they'll look into it tomorrow during my oil change, but I'm not particularly optimistic. The UVO guy at the KIA 800 number said to just use Carplay. lol.

Also, anyone know if the Fast Static Gear Shift Logic Improvement from the TSB might be included in firmware updates for all cars?

The update is for the internal electronics - infotaintment and dash, not the ECU or TCU. The TSB requires a dealer update.

Someone recently said it can be done via the USB port. They don't sell that update, so it would also have to be done by the dealer.

I'll ask if they can run that TSB. I'm curious if it will affect the aggressive downshifting when stopping.

As far as the firmware, it sounds like GT owners won't be able to update without having the dealer do it from their end. Maybe eventually someone will separate the firmware from the maps and create an install that can run from a USB drive like I found for a 2014 Veloster a few months ago.

You do realize the Canadian Stingers have cellular modems, US models do not? (The hardware exists but there is no SIM, no antenna, and it is disabled by the firmware.)
