Kia K900 and Stinger Sedans Recalled Due to Fire Risk

So has anyone in the US got a recall letter yet? Seems like only people in Canada are getting the letters thus far.

Received my recall notice today. Contacted local dealer to schedule the replacement, but the parts are on back-order.

Parts should be in real soon. I scheduled with Lockwood Kia. They said I could schedule for any time after May 2. I was able to schedule my recall service for May 3.

How long do we give KIA to determine if our cars are on the recall list or not? Mine still showed zero recalls as of yesterday. Has anyone in the US gotten a recall letter yet? Thanks to everyone with all of the information on this recall.

Still zero recalls on my 18 GT2 AWD. I don't think I'm even gonna think about bringing it in until I hear about experiences from other Stinger owners in my area (there are 3-4 only...). I only have 30k miles so I wonder if this is a time or mileage thing anyhow. I also feel like it's something fishy because my kia dealer really wants to still buy my stinger back from me. Maybe they could replace the coils under warranty while it's in to get rid of the stereo issues. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

Don't they just want to buy it off you so they can sell it to someone else for more money?

He’s possibly suspicious of them grenade-ing his car while it’s in shop as an excuse to pressure him to sell it. Honestly not even top 10 shady when it comes to dealerships so who knows.

Correct. It's happened to me more than once. Mostly by our local Toyota dealer. Bring it in for a recall/simple fix and they all of a sudden find 100 other things that are "wrong" with the car and they encourage you to trade it in... or they make money "fixing" it. I hate my local Toyota dealer... lol. Love the cars, though. I wish they made a Camry TRD that was faster than the stinger or AWD..

I dropped into my local Kia dealership yesterday and talked to several people in the service department and I was told the recall affects cars that were built with specific batches of defective oil feed lines. I asked if my car would be on the recall list and they said if it is not on there now then I am good and I have one of the cars within the date range of good oil lines. I feel good about their response because I knew the people that helped me because they have recently moved from my lifetime local Chevrolet dealership.

That's how I read the initial release, that the impact is to cars with specific oil line batches but not others, since it references a change made in Aug 2021 but specifies Stingers up through 2023 (and K900s through 2020).

On certain vehicles, the left turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly could become damaged by heat from the exhaust. If this happens, oil could leak onto hot components.
Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a 3.3 L turbo (T-GDI) engine.

Safety Risk:
Oil that leaks onto hot components can create the risk of a fire.

Corrective Actions:
Kia will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the left turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly.

It's basically confirmed now,, the engine DOES NOT HAVE to come out.

The estimated time for the repair is ~3 hrs
That's confirmation IMO that they aren't pulling the engine and replacing within that time window.

Website still not updated at this time for my VIN.

I just received my notice in the mail yesterday, and up until the last few days a search of my VIN in the recall section of kia.ca had zero results, but now it's registered there. I read that line "...approximately 3 hours or more..." as being likely more than 3 hours, but I'll be watching this thread for the outcome of your service before I make my appointment. This situation might be worth the drive to Woodstock, where there's a dealership that is recommended, instead of the buffoons at my local east London location.

Someone needs to find the actual repair procedure. I have thus far only found page #1, from a similar car (Genesis).
I believe there is a detailed procedure and perhaps some specific tools.

I too am waiting to see what the replacement procedure looks like. I'm assuming they attack it from under the car as you can barely even see this line from the engine bay and there is a lot that would need to be removed to access it from there.

Definitely will not be the first customer to book my car in for this replacement. My recommendation to everyone is to wait until your local dealership has mangled a few cars before booking yours in, unless you are certain yours is leaking.

Both of my engine and transmission are currently sitting on the work bench. it shouldn't take 3 hours to replace the oil feed pipe. I am going in this week to take some picture and share once the recall work is completed.

2019 GT1. The dealer said my recall is already in the system.

It actually does, you can see the reflective sleeve, almost touching the top right corner of the turbo heat shield. I tired to check mine but it's too tight in there, need a dental mirror or something to see under the double tube above it.

Oh well all my local KIA dealer information was incorrect. I just checked this morning and my vehicle has been recalled. I went from happy to not so happy.

Got mine too. You go first so they have some practice before doing my car.

I have an unrelated appointment with them next week and they said Kia Canada autoships recall parts if you make any appointment, but they weren't sure if the parts would be ready yet. I said don't bother scheduling recall time, I don't want it done yet, they had no issues with that. I'll ask if they've done any and keep you posted.
