Kia K900 and Stinger Sedans Recalled Due to Fire Risk

MIne is a 2019 so I would think a recall letter if applicable for my Stinger would come earlier than later but what do I know.. There is very limited information on the internet about our upcoming recall. Still love my car. I had a a new Audi RS5 following me yesterday on I20. Felt good knowing my car was half the price for similar performance.
yeah but audi techs know how to repair audis ,, not our luck unfortunately

Audi service is great and they take care of you while waiting for your car.

The place I got my G37 from had a breakfast/lunch bar with complementary made to order items. Hell will freeze over before you find something like that in a kia/hyundai dealership. I would expect to find this in a genesis shop, but most are just a part of the hyundai dealership.

I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that the engine and transmission will have to be removed to do this fix. The manual posted are instructions for removing the whole turbo charger. It's not for sure that the same steps need to be done to just remove the oil line that is at the top of the turbo. Looking under the hood of mine, it doesn't seem entirely impossible. It seems there's some soft pipes and wire harnesses on top of the turbo that need to be removed to access it.

If you had to pay for this, they would pull the engine and charge you. As this is on their dollar -- they will find every way imaginable to make this as easy as possible (for them).

Thomby thanks for the VIN lookup site. So my VIN showed no recalls. Does that mean my Stinger has a different or updated oil feed line or that VIN's will be added before the recall letters get mailed out on April 26th?
It just means your car doesn't have a recall, at this time.

Also notably, nobody's stinger has an official turbo oil feed line recall yet. No recall letters have been issued yet.

it can be replaced without pulling the engine / I'm working on a replacement line that will be routed out of the heat path , more details to come

I am not sure I would use the word "similar" to compare it to an RS5. S5 maybe, but you are right about the value the Stinger provided.

Yup. Not similar at all.
Not really even close.

Subscribed.
I am sure the Kia engineers , once they finally issue a recall, will have an similar solution engineered.

Looks pretty while standing still :). Maybe his stinger had the turbo turned off?

Oh, BS. The Stinger driver didn't even touch the gas until the Audi was long gone. Don
This one (time coded link). Stinger left first..
The audi just walks away, like 10 car lengths... Not even close.

I enjoyed the comments more than the video. Most dissing the reaction time of the Stinger driver are showing that they are not observant. It isn't his reaction time - he actually jumps first in the first sport mode run - it's the way he's driving. I saw one comment observing that the Audi is spooling the turbos before letting go of the brake. The Stinger driver just mashes the gas. Also his roof is open, and he has the two cameras, all added drag. The Audi would win every time no question. But the runs would be closer, maybe a lot closer. The price point difference is not remotely close, which is sort of the point. KIA shows the world how to make a performance Gran Turismo with all the bells and whistles without charging tens of thousands of dollars more.

My wife had an S5 before her Macan Turbo. My Stinger was fairly comparable to the Audi, although the Audi always felt like it had a bit better throttle response and the transmission was significantly better. A bit quicker than the Stinger.
Her Macan Turbo has the same engine as the RS5 and even in a heavy SUV, there is no comparison to my Stinger.....It absolutely destroys it, from a launch, from a roll...doesn't matter. Different league
Now, her S5 was about 50% more than my Stinger and her Macan was more than double the price, so the value is definitely there.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming (Stinger recall)...

Hi All, I was reading a brief article about the upcoming recall, and discovered there was a 2019 recall (NHTSA 19V538000) performed on 2017-2018 Genesis G80s and G90s with the 3.3TT engine that sounds similar to the latest recall information. Unsurprisingly, there was a good amount of discussion on a Genesis owners forum surrounding this topic: (genesisowners.com/genesis-forum/threads/recall-for-3-3t-engines.27092/). Reading through the discussion, there didn't appear to be a consensus about how the work was completed - some dealerships were saying the engine and transmission definitely needed to be removed, while others were saying it wasn't required and could be completed in 6.5 hours. Anyway, wanted to share. If someone else already shared this with the group, feel free to disregard. I still don't feel great about the recall, but reading the Genesis owners' discussion gave me a glimmer of hope. :)

Sorry, I'm prohibited from posting links. Might need to add the 'http://' to the front of that URL.

Fixed it for you

Very interesting wording differences between 2019 and 2024 for essentially the same defect..

2019 RCLRPT-19V538-5142.pdf
The subject vehicles are equipped with a turbocharger oil supply pipe assembly that may have been produced with insufficient swaging pressure on the fitting located near its center union causing a loose seal. A loose seal at the center union of the oil supply pipe could result in oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold.

2024 RCAK-24V169-2866.pdf
Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2019-2020 K900, and 2018-2023 Stinger vehicles equipped with a 3.3-liter turbo gasoline direct injection engine. The left turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly may deteriorate and leak oil.

both recall notices attached, for good measure.

It was curious to me that the 2019 notice said:
"No other Hyundai or Genesis models produced for sale or lease in the U.S. contain the same turbocharger oil supply pipe as the ones installed in the subject vehicles."

which I suppose is technically true, but you would think that Kia would be lumped together with the Hyundai notification.
