Kia K900 and Stinger Sedans Recalled Due to Fire Risk

Well, I'll admit that I was a bit wrong about the RS5 vs Stinger GT1. Car & Driver got 3.5 sec 0-60, 4.4 sec for the Stinger. I would say that the Stinger might have been better represented by an AWD Stinger as the RS5 is AWD.

I'll pass on a comment from my neighbor. He has an AWD Stinger GT1 and a 2023 C8 Corvette. He says the Stinger is stronger on the low end. Don

From a quick search, let's say the Corvette is a little over 350 lbs-ft by 2500rpm. Hard to find dynos with WOT pulls down to 1500, but if the Stinger is rated at 376 lbs-ft at 1300, it's potentially making more power than the C8 from there up until somewhere in the 3000-4000 range (where Stinger's torque falls off while C8's stays flat until more like 5500, meaning power tapers off for Kia vs. continuing to increase linearly with rpm).

Won't make a lot of difference on a track or strip, but could definitely give it more of a "freight train" feel rolling onto throttle around town.

I am not sure I would use the word "similar" to compare it to an RS5. S5 maybe, but you are right about the value the Stinger provided.
I was not real sure about the Audi's price or its performance specs but I thought it was at least a 75K vehicle. I paid 35K for my new 2019 GTS RWD in January 2020. So the the Stinger is stil a real bargain compared to the Audi. Good topic and interesting but I am still mainly concerned about the upcoming recall and KIA service department pulling my engine if that is the route KIA takes.

It's basically confirmed now,, the engine DOES NOT HAVE to come out.

The estimated time for the repair is ~3 hrs
That's confirmation IMO that they aren't pulling the engine and replacing within that time window.

Website still not updated at this time for my VIN.

I guess snail mail is faster than the internet sometimes.

Just received to my door

Kia will replace the left-hand turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly free of charge at no cost to you Kia dealers will replace the left-hand turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly with an improved one. This recall will be performed free of charge at no cost to you. The time required to perform this recall will be approximately three (3) hours or more. We recommend scheduling a service appointment to minimize your inconvenience

Very promising news, thanks.

I need to get my wireless phone charger looked at/repaired by the dealer so I will probably take the opportunity to get that and the recall done at the same time, assuming I get a recall letter as well.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I wonder if Kia dealers get the same recommended courtesy vehicle.

They mention CVP - Courtesy Vehicle Program.

Thanks for sharing. This is encouraging but I’m going to wait a bit before I have it done with hopes my very busy dealer gets a couple repairs under their belts before I take the leap. I’d like to get my hands on the repair steps at some point if they become available.

As for the courtesy vehicle, it’s 100% what should be done for us all but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Just got the recall letter yesterday. Called my KIA dealership and was told replacement part wont be available until May 10th. Was told they will need the car for the whole day. I put in a request for a service advisor to call me so I can confirm the engine does not have to come out........

Someone needs to find the actual repair procedure. I have thus far only found page #1, from a similar car (Genesis).
I believe there is a detailed procedure and perhaps some specific tools.

@D.J. You have any good dealer to recommend in the GTA? I used to get my servicing done at Lockwood Kia in Oakville, where I bought my car. However, it's a bit far for me to drive there since I moved north. For regular oil change I just use the nearest Kia dealer to me, but I don't like them, and not sure I would trust them with a bigger job like this.

Unfortunately, my answer is a very strong -

ABSOLUTELY NOT. I can in good conscious recommend any Kia dealer.

I recommend avoiding Kia dealers at all costs - but that's not an option here.

I have not yet had a good, or even a "met expectations" experience at the 2 dealers I have been to over my ~130k KMs (6 years) of ownership.

I avoid the dealership at all costs, and I recommend others do the same. Only visit for warranty work (I have 10 year/200,000km) Kia extended warranty.

Hopefully someone else can provide a recommendation, as I need one as well.

That’s because there is none.

Every single Kia dealership is terrible. At best, you might find a technician/service advisor who loves the Stinger and will try their best but that’s it. It’s a management and all the way down issue with the Corporate Kia and the Kia dealership network.

They simply can’t support higher-end vehicles or customers at all. And the Stinger is barely “high-end”. It’s kinda embarrassing.

Anyways, for oil changes, go to dealership and ask for the oil filter or order it online. Go to your local autozone and pick up one 5qt & two 1qts of Mobil (dealership uses mobil) 5/30 or whatever you use based on your climate. Drive to literally any highly rated lube shop or your personal mechanic and tell him to drain and replace with 6.25-6.75 qts. You will get immensely better results in terms of time spent, money spent & headaches.

Just remember to save receipts if you ever have to do a warranty claim and you’re golden.

Knowing this, I feel like it’s almost intentional that the dealership experience is so terrible considering the hurdles you have to go through to successfully claim a warranty if you done even so much as an oil change somewhere else. Very suspect.

Tangent aside, i’m very curious if we will get an option to receive a loaner like the Genesis dealerships are doing. I’m a busy guy and I can’t afford to have my daily vehicle out all day even when scheduled. If they say they can’t I honestly might trade my Stinger in right there and then.

When I had the front diff axle done, the experience was adequate.

It took 2 trips, first to inspect, 2nd after part got ordered. Service writer never followed up to let me know part arrived. I knew before he did by calling their parts dept. He was surprised I called to make appt for replacement.

Had to twist arms to get an alignment done as installation requires splitting the driver side ball joint. Eventually they complied. Steering wheel was off slightly when done, but at least alignment numbers looked good. I didn't pursue it further. I'd give a 2 3/4 stars out of 4. This was at the selling dealership some 60 miles away in a more rural area. Can't imagine how one of the ones in the ghetto would be.

I have had a great experience at Foster Kia in Scarborough. I used to go to Longman's Kia an felt they were always trying to gouge me.

James is the service manager at Foster Kia and he has been great the last year or so.

Sorry Kia dealerships get so many adverse reviews. I don't take my 2022 GT1 to the dealership I bought it from. Shop is worn out, mechanics in jeans not even a shirt with a dealer logo.

The dealership I use is part of a mega dealership whose reputation is excellent. I'm happy with them so far and I expect that if my car is part of the recall that they'll do the job correctly the first time. Wish the best for anyone whose car is part of the recall. Don

Just got off the phone with a service advisor who confirmed with the technician that the engine does not need to be dropped to perform this service and that the three hour plus service time is correct but half a day will be need to be booked for the completion of this recall.

I think that this is the main difference between a dirt bag KIA dealership that stands alone, and a KIA dealership that measures up. "My" dealership, where I bought both of our Stingers, has never acted stupid and is part of a "mega" dealership selling many brands.

Having a good Kia dealership nearby isn’t something most consumers can control so it’s unfair and up to Kia entirely to resolve. You guys having great experiences at a Kia dealership are the exception, not the rule.

I’m honestly jealous. I only have standalone Kia dealerships around me and I’ve been to 4 so far and they all let me down badly. I heard there’s a really good dealership in my state for Stingers but it’s 4 hours away…

Exactly my case. We live NW of San Antonio and car dealerships are dominated by I'd think, 3 mega dealerships.

You might chuckle about what one of the owners did a while back. Red McCombs is, might be was, a billionaire and very generous with his money. Biggest contributor to University of TX.

One of the independent school districts was in need of land and were in a board meeting. A man in a pair of farmer's overalls walked in. He was greeted with a "what are YOU doing here" look. Red said he'd heard they needed land. They of course said yes. He walked up and deeded a very valuable piece of land to them and walked off. DIdn't want any publicity.

Woe to any dealership of his that mistreated a customer. Don
