Kia Stinger Navigation Map Update

Seems like it might make sense for Kia to await any impending CarPlay updates that Apple might release soon ...
There is an update every six months and they are already woefully slow at doing things. Don't encourage them to find excuses to be even slower. It's already often two to three updates before they capture new features available in the phones, and the maps are nowhere near up-to-date, ever (by Google Maps standards).

All of which is why "free" updates in Canada were received not as a gift or bonus, but as a minimum expectation since the product sucks. And now for months we don't even have that (as US customers never did).

Thanks for the installer links. I was able to update my system using those and a 64GB MicroSDXC card formatted to contain a FAT32 primary partition.

Are you Canadian? Did that installer have an option for Canada? Otherwise, you likely lost your telematics functions.

Yes. The installer does ask you to choose between US, Canada, or Korea.
This is what my dash/nav after installing update:

Yep, the installer does have an option for
And your Google search and other telematics stuff works no problem?

Thanks for confirming we don't have to wait for the dumb KIA.CA website to get organized!
I've not used it yet tbh since the car is new and I'm unfamiliar with the nav system, I'll try it out later today. Anything specific you want to test?

The only function I would cry if it was gone is the Google search via the mirror POI button (learn about it if you haven't already :) ). You can voice search for anything (as with normal Google) and then the results link to the nav system. If you try the same POI or address by directly speaking to the nav it is unable to understand at least 50% of the time and the POIs are woefully out of date (yes, even with the latest maps you just downloaded) and mostly not even in there in the first place. The nav is next to useless without the Google interface and hence why most people just use Apple or Android for nav these days.

I did the update. The one item perhaps I was imagining reading about was the ability to reply to a text by voice. Doesn't have it; just the same short and relatively lame list of stock replies to choose from. I can't see any changes, actually, besides the map colourization choices (and, of course, the presumably updated maps themselves).

Navigator Updater 1.04.4 was just released. I am going to attempt another update lol

Strange, I'm still seeing version 1.0.33 from oem-usupload.map-care.com/UPDATE_PROGRAM_DOWNLOAD/UPDATE_CLIENT/NavigationUpdater/INSTALL/NavigationUpdaterSetup.exe

Does this have any effect on the actual software that is downloaded...don't think so? Isn't it just the downloader interface? v14.5 for the cars is not out yet.

I've hashed the map files for the 2018 GT2 with the different releases, what's downloaded is all the same.

I don't suppose there would be any way to spoof a unit without nav into updating to a software WITH nav using a thumb drive in the data port.. would there..?

It does not. I jumped the gun. Files are still bad

Sorry, I looked back about six months in this thread but didn't see--what is the problem with the files, and which files are you referring to? I updated no problem, but not sure if that's because it is in Canada where we get free updates?

US files are corrupt, the installer KIA provided my is being updated weekly but the bad files remain. They change the version, and the file size but nothing ever works.
Seems like they are struggling with the ‘18MY

There is something going on different from message #722 above?

Just tried on the Kia Map & S/W Site...and could not get any download.
Sent an email...And here is reply, Just received

Thanks for contacting Kia Canada regarding the Map updates.

We have review your enquiry and have been advised that you can visit the website on August 25th where you will be able to download the free Map update.

Feedback on v.14:

  • The new colour schemes look nice at first glance, but they have now gone too far in the opposite direction with traffic indicators
    • Traffic used to be so vivid and prominent you couldn't see the underlying roads
    • Now it is so subtle, you cannot distinguish from the often darkly-coloured main highways
  • Where is the setting to control the verbosity of the nav voice?
    • It should be right on the nav screen left-side menu under the same icon as the physical volume
    • I can't find one anywhere and the default setting is way too verbose for normal use
  • Maps are already out-of-date, as expected
    • In first cross-city trip since update, without even purposely trying, both major road/highway interchange updates missing and the usual plethora of out-of-date speed signs
  • Zoom levels still have inappropriate level of detail on major highway names and numbers and lack of identification of upcoming exit roads
    • Some of this is unique to Canada as mapping layer standards are sightly different here and KIA/Hyundai have never bothered to translate them despite selling nav systems in cars here for what is now decades
  • No improvements to Bluetooth text replies
    • Needs better/more replies to choose from via menu
    • Should have voice recognition replies also because those would be less distracting to the driver than scrolling through the dumb menu
  • No improvements to any other features that I could determine
So, in summary, if you are already on v13.5, I would hesitate severely to pay for what I would describe as a non-update. If it's free, then I would get it as long as you don't use nav frequently (I do not)--or, we can find the settings to shut off the incessant nannying while using it.
