3.3TT Kia Stinger 3.3TT SSR Downpipes +30WHP / +26WTQ NO TUNE!!!!! Dyno Runs and Testing

Has anyone dynoed their car after installing and verified the claimed 30whp gain with no other mods?
Tork has a video where they show dynos of all their mods. They said mid pipe was 25 hp. It was thier own pipe I'm sure but they don't even sell them so no reason to embelish, not that they would.

I finally got my SSRs on with the help of a friend with a shop/lift. I have an Ark catback and swapped out the mufflers for Flowmaster DBX. I also did some sound deadening in the trunk and partial under the seats.

First off the fit of the pipes was disappointing. The drivers side touched the transmission and could not be adjusted away so we had to dent the pipe to clear. Passenger side pipe was 1/2 inch longer than the driver side pipe and that was able to fit but barely. (the Ark mid pipe has H and X crossovers so the two sides don't move independently. The mounting tabs needed bent. The exhaust now hangs a half inch or more lower which caused the exhaust to hit my Ultimate Racing brace back towards the rear axle. This could not be adjusted and had to remove the brace. (Turns out the Ultimate brace is steel and rusting on the inside and had water in it!)

The sound was about as expected. At light loads it is just slightly louder maybe 10%, at heavy loads its probably 25% louder and maybe more at WOT. It sounds bad ass now for sure. No rattle or rasp but the sound is a bit grittier which i like. The car was fairly quiet before in attempt to fight that 1500-2000 RPM drone. So far the drone seems no worse and the car did need some more volume at WOT.

Performance! - I did 0-60 just prior to install and ran 3.89, 3.99. These were back to back. After SSR install I ran a 3.91, grabbed a burrito and then ran 3.89. No gains. The intake temps prior where 70-75 and after 90-95 from sitting. So with cooler temps and ill give it some time to adjust, but still surprised no gains off the bat. I did pick up 1 PSI of boost after.

I'm running 3.78 0-60 and 11.78 1/4 miles before the mids so probably 430-450 wheel HP with Tork Tune, JT Intake, Ultimate FMIC so maybe there are diminishing returns or some other limits around the 450 HP mark? It does sound and feel faster but that is a butt dyno illusion so dragy tells me.

2 things I’d like to say/ ask...

The fit, I had to move the top (part that connects to primary do) of the downpipes “out” as in towards the drivers door to kinda adjust the placement against the transmission. Have had zero issues since.

As far as performance, wouldn’t the Ecu need time to adjust to the change in flow? If you have a tork tune, could that need a slight tweak to account for increased flow?

His car is AWD. Is yours? Mine is RWD and I didn't experience any issues with it fitting. I wonder if maybe they designed it for RWD cars and then altered it to work with both...

Yea mine is AWD. When I was installing them I posted about it and a few others said they had tight fit with the AWD and the transmission housing. That’s how I knew to slide the pipes out.

Yes im AWD. We tried to slide the pipe out but still touched or was within a 1/16th. Expansion would have made it rub. Pipes definately designed for RWD since they didn't relocate the tabs and gave us brackets instead.

Hmm odd, I agree though it looks like AWD was an afterthought.

My mid pipe did pass the wife test. Took her for a ride and no comments. Didn't seem to notice.

Awesome Tonka! - Now i have heard the old exhaust setup and it was by far the best i have heard - when you get a chance can you post up a new sound bite!

Thanks man

Ok here is the old clip, with just an Ark Catback Exhaust with Flowmaster DBX mufflers.

And here is the new clip with same exhaust plus SSR Midpipe and JT Intake. Not too much difference, just a little more evil sounding with the SSR.

Anyone else have leaks between the ssr mid and catback? Both sides leaking badly. Can see the exhaust blowing out, and water dripping out. SSR is having a look at my pictures.

It definitely doesn't look like those flanges are bolted up square. The crossover pipe on your aftermarket exhaust means those mounting faces are in a fixed alignment, with zero room for independent adjustment of the relative pipe angles - maybe that's causing (or exacerbating) the problem.

No, I have not any....I think that the non OEM catback flanges are the culprits....

I think the SSR angles are a bit off and are slightly different lengths. Stock mounted up great to the ark catback. But do agree little room for error with the H and X pipe.
Plus we had to ding the pipe to clear the tranny so something is a bit off.
I saw the dirty water puddles first then peaked under and could see exhaust blowing out. Plus you can see the char of exhaust on both sides now.
