Wheel/size/offset and tire/size/profile...can be confusing.

Thank you, I appreciate the pics. That'll work...

Thanks in advance.

Looking to keep my oem rims for winter and get new summer rims.
Fast Wheel Aristo (either gloss or machine black)
upload_2019-10-12_12-45-12.webp

The options are
19x8.5
19x9.5
19x11(think this out of the question)
Off set 30 or 40

I was leaning towards squared set up with 19x8.5 30 (question remains if 40 offset is better...thoughts??)
Tires will be 255/35

I know some are running 19x8.5 30 with no issue, no with this wheel design, what is your guys take on the nicest set up?
Keep squared or staggered, why?
Running 8.5 or 9.5?
30 or 40 offset?

Thanks!!

If anyone has those wheels, please share pics, I couldn’t find any testimonials on the forum.

Here's the link to what I did. Per my experience 19x9.5 +30 will work no problem with those tires.
I went with 19x9.5 +35 and needed 5mm spacers up front. +30 would have been perfect.
Note the wheel and the 255 tire are about flush with one another at 9.5"
At 8.5" you'd have a little more protection from scraping curbs if that was a concern.

Can't be sure on the 8.5 +40

Looks like you used spacers at the front with your 19x9.5 so maybe I will stay at 19x8.5 and squared the set up.
I ll need some hub ring like your set up too but had those on precious car and once on , its on :)

I needed the 5mm front spacers with 19x9.5 +35 which effectively made my rims 19x9.5 +30 So I think what you are looking at would work.

So you saying 19x9.5 30 instead of 19x8.5 30?
I had plans to use the oem tires until they were done as the car was just acquired in May’19

Unless you put up with some poke, I don't think that 9.5" wide on the front will clear the Brembos.

Awesome , thanks, I wasn’t sure.
Therefore with this rim the ideal set is 19x8.5 30 offset ( which mean I will even be able to reuse the stock tires too)

My 19x8.5 are 40 offset. Stock tires. So, stretched half an inch more than OE wheels.

Very clean set up!

Thanks. I relied on "my wheel guys" at Wheel Werks to select and set up my aftermarket wheels properly. Here's what they look like in the wells: No poke:

Hi everyone,
I am getting mixed info from the FB group ... therefore I will rely on the expert here from the Forum.

running 255/35 all around for my winter set on OEM rim - I know it wont be an issue at the rear BUT I was challenged it would work on the front and to not do 255/35 on an 8 inch rim ...
I seen that set up done on here so some have done it , I am inquiring to make sure it is the right way to go , need to order those tires asap :)

Thanks !

I found and saved this wheel to tire size matrix along my travels. I believe this is the source.
Tire Width for a Wheel/Rim Size Chart

8" Wheel 215 Min 225-235 Ideal 245 Max
8.5" Wheel 225 Min 235-245 Ideal 255 Max
9" Wheel 235 Min 245-255 Ideal 265 Max
9.5" Wheel 245 Min 255-265 Ideal 275 Max
10" Wheel 255 Min 265-275 Ideal 285 Max

It is obviously personal preference but I would stick with 225 tires for your winters. Skinny tires apply the weight to a smaller area in order to compact the snow more and give you better grip. As opposed to snowshoes that sit on top.

My wife's new SUV came with 275s. I hate to see what they will be like when the roads are slick.

225/45R18 on 18x8 is the "best fit". If you're ordering new tires to go on 18x8's, I'd do that.

255/35R18 on 18x8 is going to be significantly wider, give you about 4% speedometer error, and look kinda funny with crazy backwards stretch, if it even seated right.

255/35R18 on 18x9 would be fine without any weird stretch, but you'll still be a bit taller than stock, same 4% speedo error.

For winter tires, I would just stick with stock wheel sizes. Going wider trying to squeeze performance out of winter tires isn't going to get you anywhere IMO.

Stock sizes are:
18x8 all around - 225/45R18

19x8 (front) - 225/40R19
19x9 (rear) - 255/35R19

And 19" winter tires are expensive, so I think an 18x8 square setup is the way to go. Cheaper, more sidewall for invisible potholes, and more tire selection.

See: https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.p...ct2=35&wheel_size=18&wheel_width=8&offset2=40 for a good calculator. Shows the stretch of the 255/35 vs stock sizes.
