Wheel/size/offset and tire/size/profile...can be confusing.

I found and saved this wheel to tire size matrix along my travels. I believe this is the source.
Tire Width for a Wheel/Rim Size Chart

8" Wheel 215 Min 225-235 Ideal 245 Max

that is good to know ... so everyone running 255/35 on the stock 19 are loosing to much side wall ? not a good idea for winter ?

See: https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.p...ct2=35&wheel_size=18&wheel_width=8&offset2=40 for a good calculator. Shows the stretch of the 255/35 vs stock sizes.

I thought about 18s but I rather get new 19 for the summer so reusing the 19 stock is the idea.

in terms of rubber, it looks to be the same but ppl have put a doubt in my mind the 8wide from rim will not be good for the 255/35

@BlaydeX15 from the website you've provided, looks like it will work pretty well

It'll "work", but you don't get an idea of spacing, you might need to add a spacer to clear the suspension components. The tires will still look poofy though, like the tire is trying to eat the wheel. Kinda weird IMO. Here's a mustang with 255 on 18x8 - https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/attachments/034dcd64-9b0e-4c97-83a2-150b0ca145d1-jpeg.347342/

Though my thought is: If you're reusing stock wheels for winter, why not just match stock sizes? I see no reason to try to put the wider rear tires on the front wheels. 225/40R19 Front (19x8), 255/35R19 Rear (19x9). Since you're gonna buy new, why bother with funky sizing?

that picture doesn't look too bad imo :)

btw rear is 19x8.5 , but Iam sure this was just a typo.

the tires I have found do not come in 225/40 hence why I wanted to go squared 255/35
I see Stingers in NYC and Calgary using that set up, both cities of snow as well.

to make this even more confusing ... two performance shops have said to put 225/40 all around for the winter on the oem wheels - now Iam lost...

How much did they set you back? If you don't mind me asking.
I felt a bit extravagant. :P Swung almost in an instant from, "How do we do this tire change thing twice a year cheaply?" To: "To heck with it! I'm going to enjoy my car's performance maxed out in the summer!" It was a combo of factors that swung me over: having my left OEM rims scraped all the way around in a car wash tunnel(!?), deciding to get them powder coated gloss black; not wanting to remove winter tires and put them back on again (always hard on rims, that); not wanting, really, to go year-round on A/S, not even UHP A/S (which the Motivos are). So I had Wheel Werks look up gloss black wheels for me and the TSW Watkins were the best all around match (double black, gloss high points and matt black for the rest, love it!). $440 apiece. (There, you get your answer in the last two words!:P:P)

If you have clearly given these shops your OEM wheel sizes, and told them you want squared tires for winter on the different sized 19" wheels, and they both said 225/40 is going to work, go for it. You can always get a third or fourth opinion/recommendation to be extra sure. But if the shop says "Yes", they will make it good; you're not going to be in any trouble, because clearance is guaranteed.

I must admit this terrifies me with this car. The place we usually take our cars to doesn't seem to be very careful when guiding you into these rails. It doesn't matter with my wife's car being an SUV, but would obviously be a problem with mine.

Does 18x8.5 +30 front and 18x9 +35 rear work? Or would it be better to go with a square setup of either of those sizes? (Preferably the larger size)

225/40 would be my strong recommendation. As a rule you always want to err on the narrower side for snow tires. I have purchased about a dozen sets of snow tires over the years and I like to go as narrow as I can get away with. It’s especially helpful in deep snow.
When you put too-wide tires on wheels they will feel “greasy” as the sidewalls flex too much. Add in the fact that snow tires already have soft sidewalls and deeper tread you now have three factors working against your car’s handling.

thank you, I am going to price check 225/40 around my area first ... kinda disappointing about the 255/35 as I had a deal for 700bucks CND

Why doesn't anyone use 245/30/20 F, 295/25/20R since overall circumference front and rear is almost spot on to stock? Ride quality? Tire price? Appearance?
I ordered 20x9 and 20×10 wheels and most people use larger circumference 235/35/20 front, 275 or 285/30/20 rear. Does this not cause a noticeable decrease in acceleration/fuel economy (ignoring going to lighter wheels)?

Well, nevermind. Not too many options for 295/25/20 tires out there.

Welcome to the forum! :) I can't answer your questions, because I go with professional recommendations for wheels, which is why I have what I do (see sig). And, I adhere closely to Kia's warning to not mess around with the different tire/wheel sizes. In fact, I am almost a slave to my determination to "obey" the manual. :P

so I finally wrapped my oem rim with the Toyo Observe GSI-6
225/40/19 all around, sits as the oem tires on the front and a little bit narrow on the rear however for the winter it is what is recommended.

Waiting for actual snow to piled up on the road to test those bad boys !

MerlintheMad I love your setup, looks great! So you're running 19x8.5 +40 up front with a 225/40 tire and 19x9.5 +39 rear with a 255/35 tire? Hope I got that right :)

Yes. I always doublecheck to make sure I remember it right. Here's a post with the particulars:

Of course, that setup is in "hibernation" in the shed. :P I'm back on the OE wheels with slightly wider A/S tires. (Yeah, I know, now: narrower tires give better grip in the snow; but, I wasn't going for maximum grip in the snow, but rather UHP for the 90% plus time during our low valley winters when the roads are clean and dry.)

I apologize in advance but I might have to copy your setup next spring :D. PS - Do you think there would be an issue adding Eibach springs?

Mine has the Eibach springs and both front and rear sway bars , NO troubles so far with mine , but that’s only me :)

That's good news. I want to do a similar set up with the Eibach springs and bars. I appreciate the input Arnie War!
