Cool good to know. Just got an update from the dealership and it was confirmed that it is normal.

I did learn something new. There is a transmission cpu update and they are going to update it. Mine was also built 11/17.

Do you know what the tcu update is for? If they're fixing that stupid cruise control surge I might be willing to actually go to one of Kia's service centers.

Happy to hear it's normal. It's an annoying little sound but it never made me think anything was really wrong with the car as it always starts and shuts down normally. Maybe it will eventually wear itself down and the sound will go away on it's own. Definitely let us know what the CPU update is if you hear anymore on it.

They said it’s the Static Gear Shift Logic TCM UPGRADE whatever that means.

Maybe has to do w/ the gt2 folks w/ the fancy shifter that people had difficulty w/ when shifting?

Ya there’s a bulletin out there and mines a GT.

They also fixed the rattling noise and replaced left strut on trunk due to leaking.

They were looking at the Waste-Gate issue and they would have to replace the turbo or the waste gate.

The Service Manager told the Mechanic he was going to LIE to me saying they tested it with 2 separate units in stock and it sounded the same and that the sound is normal.

I want to say this is incredible but it's not for a dealer service department. I had them damage my car, dented the door, on a lease. At the end of the lease, after they fixed it, they claimed it was damaged when I turned it in. I spoke with the people trying to collect the money told them I had pictures (ALWAYS take pictures of a lease prior to turning in) and they damaged it and I believe they are just now trying to get me to pay. They agreed and I never heard from them again.

They were the same dealer that said my transmission was fine when there was no longer any friction material.

I will never go back there for anything, a new car or service.

Ok all went well with the Water Gate oh I mean Waste Gate issue.

So far I got free maintenance for life, pads, front of the line service, and my Service Advisor will be the GM personally direct cell phone.

They gave me a loaner STINGA for the weekend.

The Service Manager was suspended with no pay and when he returns he’s fired. They also revamped the service department with new training.

I actually checked this again w/ the good up both from a cold start, then engine off. Then I did it again today after work w/ the engine hot and hear the same sound... from this thread I’m thinking it’s normal?

i have this sound on my gt2 awd when turning off as well. car seems to run fine though... me personally will hold off on a dealership visit unless its confirmed its a real problem. op got a great outcome from this. when i got a loaner from kia it was an suv that had a huge 2018 sticker on the windshield lol

I listened to mine yesterday and didn't hear anything. The engine was cold though so maybe it has to be warmed up for it to happen.

Mine only does it after a drive once the car has reached operating temperature, I don't hear it if I turn the car on and off just to listen for it.

I checked mine out . I have a Canadian gt limited 2018. Manufacturing date April 2018 purchase date November 2018 with 2300km on it. It's sort of a thudding sound when turning off .this is after a 40 minute drive highway speeds and is from the passenger side.

A user in a facebook group had their passenger side turbo replaced and then their driver side malfunctioned as well. If you have someone sit in your car while idle and tap on the pedal while you look into the engine area you should be able to hear the wastegate. If so definitely take it in.

Ya I saw his post. Both of them replaced. 5 minutes ago I checked mine out and here it is. Every time I press the throttle and my original sound when I shut it off.

My car, and several others that I've talked to, have had that sound since they got the car. Even my mechanic, who works on nothing but KIA, has told me this was normal sounds for the wastegate.
