Turbo Waste Gate Screech

Mines coming from the passenger side turbo waste gate. They say it’s the linkage arm on the actuator. I’m assuming a turbo or waste gate replacement. Think it has to be approved by corporate but I could be wrong. I’ll find out in my meeting tomorrow.

Have someone record it near the turbo while you shut it off.

Ok all went well with the Water Gate oh I mean Waste Gate issue.

So far I got free maintenance for life, pads, front of the line service, and my Service Advisor will be the GM personally direct cell phone.

They gave me a loaner STINGA for the weekend.

The Service Manager was suspended with no pay and when he returns he’s fired. They also revamped the service department with new training.

Here’s my loaner.

I don't think you can ask for any more than that. Kudos to the dealership for doing what's right and recognizing a bad apple.

Yeah thats a great offer. Still such a black eye on the brand though. Just the idea that him thinking thats okay to do says a lot, the way he spoke so nonchalantly about lying to you sounds like it was an everyday thing they do...

It's utterly the guy and has zip to do with Kia or "the brand". Come on.

Yup 1 bad apple spoils the bunch. They got rid of the apple.
Reading this, the GM made a point of getting rid of the bad apple. The GM wants you happy. Smart GM.

Funny thing is I hear it on the loaner too but not as loud.

Lots of "screech" can come from turbos. If they run quiet enough and do their job, then what is the worry over a little shut down noise? Am I missing something?

Interesting that some will spend money for blow off valve noise but don't want waste gate noise on shutdown. The powertrain warranty on Stingers includes specifically the turbochargers for 10 years / 100,000 miles. I would expect such noises to become less as the parts "wear in" and tolerances loosen up. It's up to Kia as to what to do about them. If it is not an "abnormal" noise (mine doesn't -- yet) then it would be both unnecessary and expensive to replace parts every time such a noise is heard. It will be interesting to follow this.

Wonderful outcome!

Alright y’all, on the loaner stinger I hear the same screech sound especially after the car has been driven.

Seems to be common. Can we have more of you confirm on your rides?

Corporate did say this is common.

Any developing noise would bother me. With c. 8.5K miles, my car is quiet starting up, running and shutting down.

I heard mine do some screechy thing once, thought it was the parking brake though. (Was stepping out and hit the parking brake with the door open)

Otherwise, never heard it.

Ya the parking break makes a sound when activated on both rides. That seems normal.

The screech only when shutoff from a trip. I open driver door and shutoff engine. I hear it everything on both rides.

Note the loaner only has 900 miles and mine 5500. Break in period maybe?

Gotcha. I'll test mine out. I always have the window up and shut the car off with the doors shut, so I can't hear anything anyway. Will roll the windows down when I park at home today.

I haven't heard anything on shut down of the engine. But, I do hear a little whistle when i lightly rev or tap the gas pedal when I'm slowly going over a speed bump or up a driveway...

I always hear mine when i shut the car down but i always have my window down and park in a garage so hear all the sounds the car makes.

Build date 11/17 if that matters.
