Sunset Yellow Discussion

I decided to do the buyback from Kia. It was pretty easy and we'll see how everything goes Friday when I "surrender" the car. I am getting everything back including down payment, trade surplus, taxes, title, licensing fees and all payments/interest in addition to everything I had done to the car. Basically, walking away from a car that I got to use free for a year. Just seemed like too many issues with the repainting and they don't have another color I care for. I went a different route and purchased a car that was the alternate to the Stinger. Although I love the Stinger, the car I purchased I love even more and got a great deal on. Ended up costing me less than the Stinger... new 2017 Cadillac CTS Premium Luxury VSport... yes, found a brand new 2017 with 80 miles. I thought the Stinger was quick off the line. The VSport is a beast, not to mention the comfort and options. That said... I'll be looking to see what Kia does with the Stinger in the next couple of years and perhaps I'll revisit owning one.
Thanks for the update @Christopher that sounds like a good way to go. I think I might try to do the same. Could you give me an idea what you spent, I would think that your price would have to be 52k or less? The lowest I could find for a premium luxury vsport was 55k, or 49k for the standard Vsport.

Stopped by RK Kia to see the progress. See pix. Hood, front fender and doors were painted and in the booth. Next up the main body. They told me the Kia rep said he will not authorize painting my front bumper or rear tailgate section. PMO! That's the 3rd time they said NO! Quote was $464 if I wanted them painted, will probably call Monday and say yes.
Dirty shop floor and tape and something else laying on top of the unprotected paint and glass...

Hopefully all turns out well and end product is good to go. Sorry to hear about the bumpers, not sure how some are getting that approved and some are not.

My buyback letter is being signed and submitted to Kia this week.

According to the shitty response I got from my Kia case handler, apparently EVERYTHING can be approved or denied by the DPSM that covers your dealer where you are getting the work done.

Kinda funny that some district rep can override Kia........... So hope yours is having a good day if you ask!!!!

On a side note, I have gotten more answers and more done in the past week, dealing with the Service Director and his boss at the local dealer, than I EVER got done dealing with a case manager. Just an FYI....

And for day to day business, my local dealer will get all of it. They have bent over backwards for 2 weeks straight to get this done. Hopefully I'll have my car back this week.

I agree with that. My dealership has been outstanding, but Ed from Kia has helped me as much as he could too.

Im putting popcorn on standby to read your review after first inspection of the car when you get it back! My hope is that i dont need it and you say all is good and paint is better than expected!

Really good to know about the Service Director as ive had a few good interactions with mine for the wife's sorrento. Have not really engaged him during this process but maybe thats why my dealer did say they would cover the front bumper initially??

Ed, ironically, was the one who gave me attitude when I asked him about what was approved/not approved on my car..... Ah well, the dealer helped a ton. Too bad I wasn't close enough to get @KiaofMuncie involved since I bought from them, I know I would've been treated well from day 1.

Glad to know you've got a good rep with yours, mine now knows me by name, as well as the rest of the dealership, lol. For good reasons mind you, I've been extremely nice with them and gotten the same in return, plus they have all taken an interest in mine because they didn't get a yellow. They also had to file a warranty claim to get my front bumper covered. Don't worry @Mach_Tuck I'll definitely have a full write-up, pics included, once I get it back. They are also doing the head unit swap for the BT issue while it's there. Tomorrow is 7 weeks without the car......dam sure hope it doesn't go to 8 lol.

I ended up paying 55K after taxes/title... 25K off MSRP. This included a full hood wrap, bumpers, rockers, door handles, mirrors and rear bumper. The dealer also had custom rims on the car and got those at no charge. I couldn't turn it down. It's a great car and I'm happy with the purchase. I know I'll miss the Stinger, but this car is amazing and I'm happy with it.

My buyback is now complete. Checked and the payoff went through.. took about a week after inspection and papers signed.

So whats going to be your wheels now? New or pocket the cash?

Already got a new 2018 GT2 ceramic silver with red interior..

I left another voicemail with my case manager - wasn't very pleasant as the guy NEVER returns my calls! Great customer support Kia! Wanted to know why the Kia dealer had planned to paint my bumper and tailgate area until last week when they were told NOT TO by the Kia rep. Also asked why I have to pay my monthly lease payment when I don't the car! So I'm paying $500/month for a base Kia Optima that smelled like smoke and had bumper damage?!?! Still no word from my case manager or the Kia dealer doing the work. After reading follow up posts and thinking about it more, I'm not putting a nickel into the car unless I am happy with it and plan to buy it out after the lease.

My plan is this, when I pick it up, if it looks good, I'm fine, give me the $5K check. If it doesn't look good, repaint! If it looks OK, I'll ask the Kia rep if he is happy with it as it will be KIA's CAR TO DEAL WITH in 2.5 years when I turn it in since it is leased, then take my $5K check!

Be careful what you wish for. I too also never got a call back from anyone but Valerie (whom I understand is no longer associated with this project, whatever that means).

I was of the same mind, then my car was gone for 2 months and I got the jerk around. I got my check, I am going to use the money to do things to the car, like you know - paint it properly, enjoy it for a while, then sell it.

To be honest, I get a little PO'ed every time I see it, but the bad paint is on the outside and I just take my aggression out on the poor tires. Good car to do it in too. I missed the little yellow bastard.

Thanks for the follow up...a week is a bit longer than i would like to see from time of surrender the vehicle. Nonetheless, i submitted my official signed repurchase option yesterday. Was advised up to 60 days to complete the process.

Already got a new 2018 GT2 ceramic silver with red interior..
Very nice, hopefully you did the lease then buy this time and raked them on the massive incentives. This the original color combo i was going with until i found out the yellow was to be made available.

I just take my aggression out on the poor tires.
Made my morning reading this part!! Sorry for the issues but taking it on the tires is just classic!

Sorry to hear this. Contractually speaking, you owe the payments. No different than if the car was in an accident...you still owe the agreed upon monthly payments whether you have access to the vehicle or not.

Doesnt mean i disagree or dont sypathize with your situation...however, contractually speaking, i think you have no ground to stand on. Perhaps try to get a better loaner is my only suggestion.

Can someone give me Linda’s number? Can’t find my damn paper ....

Thanks ... I’ve had my car now a week after repaint and haven’t heard from her since the first time she called me about the situation and letter. It’s pretty sad ... I am going to call tomorrow because I want my check

Interesting, I got mine within a week of dealing with them.

You need to fill out a form and then you'll get an email from a different department at Kia. The customer service folks are not the one handing out the checks. My email came from someone in the Consumer Affairs department.

I will say, that as mad at Kia as I am, the only folks who ever treated me right were Linda and Valerie. I am sure she's just busy dealing with all of us.
