Spark Plug change tips

I understand but apparently I needed to prove something to a specific someone(s). I'll refrain from posting any further.
I think you misunderstood the tone(s). No offence meant from this end. By the way a 15 minute driver side is pretty fast plug work:thumbup:

None from you. Thanks! It was my first time ever and finally decided to grow some balls and do it yesterday and wasn't bad at all. It helps that I have skinny fingers.

I was out changing filter and spark plugs. started 13:30 gave up at 19.
4 of 6 sparks exchanged using the "swivel" tools. cant access the passenger 2 front ones and my back is killing me.
Unless there is super small joints to use, i cant access the last 2 without removing everything above.
Didnt connect the jb4 because that was last on the list and now im dead tired in the back

Take a breather. Relax, breath, repeat. Repeat again.:) It's not that hard. Go back and reread some of the great tips and advice others have given. Contemplate it all for as long as you need then apply the "ashole theory". That being.....If that ashole can do it, SO CAN I.
Follow these easy instructions and you'll have those plugs in, in no time flat.

Thanks for all the great tips given on this tread. I did mine in 1 hour yesterday with zero problems and zero cuts to my hands. Having a lot of option of extenders and a few good well oiled swivels made it a breeze. I was even able to tork the middle passenger plug at 20lbs like the rest of them. :)
*I will purchase a couple of better swivel with a real universal joint, not a U joint type, it would have saved me some time by being able to wrench faster.

What's the trick to unplugging the wires for the coil pack?

Probably a bit too old to help, but use a small screwdriver to separate the light grey clip from the connector.

Changed my plugs in under 1.5 hours thanks to the advice on this thread. Swivels (or knucklebusters as my grandfather called them) and the magnetic spark plug socket definitely made it easier. I took apart the middle, passenger side coil pack for "easy" removal.

Thanks to all that contributed!

Is there a recommended mileage to swap out plugs? I have been running my JB4 for probably 15k miles. How long do these HKS plugs last? Do people wait for misfires or just try to aim for mileage threshold before doing it?

You fellas are life savers. Thanks for the tips and work arounds. Worked great!

Same here on the middle passenger couple pack. I see no other way around it.

Yall are crazy. Just take the intake manifold off, it takes ten minutes at most after you've done it one time. This gives you a straight shot to the coil packs/spark plugs and makes torqueing to the right specs incredibly easy.

I wish I had just done it but was already “in” using the swivel adapters. Next time I’ll do it that way. Plus, there is a risk of damaging the middle passenger coil when maneuvering it out.

Not.

Well not alway the off, just enough to lift it up a little bit. I just stuck a towel underneath once I got the necessary bolts off. This gave me a straight shot to everything I needed. With the manifold on I couldn't get the middle plug out even with swivels, I had to remove each individual socket extension to give it enough room to get out and then getting a new one in was almost as bad. Looked up a youtube video for manifold removal and was able to get it where I needed to in twenty minutes, put it back together in about five. I'm thinking I can get it off again in about ten knowing what I need to get off now. Much better than the middle plug pain in the butt. Feel much better having a straight shot to everything so I know my torque settings are right.

If anyone is unclear, like I was. This is how the coil packs come apart. Once you understand that, it makes the whole process of that plug under the intake much easier to deal with.

I'll be trying this tomorrow. How do the packs come apart to make it easier? Most of these posts make it sound like it just fell apart during the struggle, not an actual method. If it's falling apart how are you getting the "tail" out?

Anyone else have any last minute tips for me? I haven't done plugs on any car in a while. Assume the usual unplug the battery and get to work?

I've bought all the swivels, extensions, replacement bolts, offset 10mm wrench, spark plug socket from Burger tuning, and a flex extension just in case in case.

Top just pulls right off. It’s easy peasy. On an easy to remove one just pull on the top and you’ll see.

Have 1/4 inch swivels as well. Some of those coil bolts are a pita.

While I've never wrenched on a car I may go this alone as my Denso plugs appear to be shot and have HKS on their way.

Question on using the double swivel I know most of you that have done this don't use a torq wrench because you just know by feel, I'd feel better myself using one is it possible to still torq the #2 correctly? The funny part is it's #2 that is giving me a misfire.
