Oil pressure light comes on only when car is stopped

So I just got my oil sensor replaced at about 150,000km but the light still goes on. How screwed am I? Is the next step to disassemble again and try replacing the oil pump? How much more work would that be compared to the sensor? I’m very saddened by this outcome since it’s going to cost me thousands.
The oil pump would likely require an engine removal from what I have read so the cost would be $$$. The oil sensor is under the intake so a much easier replacement.

Ah fml. And if that doesn’t solve it, I’m probably going to need a new engine then. Fml, might be parting out soon then.

I hope not for you

Is the oil pressure out of spec?

Did someone replace the oil pressure switch without diagnosing first?

If it helps, see 2 files attached - oil pump

They replaced it first without testing because sensor is probably bad then retested with new one and got <15psi of oil pressure at operating temps.

Update: oil light went away from sitting for a day and running a while. We presume it was the car adapting itself to the sensor and oil pressure again. Also got my valves walnut blasted while the engine was apart.

Double Win!

Yeah, if it wasn't clearing immediately after replacement, I'll bet it just took a bit to reset after getting the appropriate readings. Those valves looked nasty. Do you have an OCC installed?

DIY walnut blasting...

3/4 Of the challenge is just everything out to gain access to the ports.

That was the worst ones, the rest wasn’t nearly as bad. No OCC installed, probably not gonna bother with one since I’ll be trading in for an EV in the next year or so.

^^Thank you. I wasn't familiar with the term surge tank else it would of came to mind. Apparently something used in turbo engine.

Re sensor. Wonderful it serves double duty. My point was placement could have been improved.
My NA car has a surge tank. I think it is a normal feature on some intakes. something about damping pulsations.

Various bulbous voids attached to intake tubes are extremely common on stock intakes. Almost universal. Not so much for pulsations as for noise (sure, noise is pulsation if you want to argue that). The goal of a stock intake is to be silent, and placing specifically sized voids at specific areas is great a muting the noises that try to come up out of the intake manifold. Even cars that look like they don't have them probably do - just hanging down on the underside of the intake tube.
Those are not surge tanks. I forget the technical name though.

The surge tank that's attached to the front of the Stinger upper intake manifold is totally different. That's a vacuum chamber to hold vacuum to drive the recirc valves. That, combined with the switching solenoid, lets the ECU snap the valves open whenever it wants.

Adding my name to the list of failed oil pressure sensors - MY18 with 90k kms on the clock.
Replaced by the dealer after an oil flush during diag /quick fixes. Not an easy fix with many hours labour to get to the part, the sensor was covered in oil..
The dealer was fairly kind, car is 5 1/2 years old and out of warranty - glad it was the sensor and no other issues. All in this fault cost me US$1300 and was the first case they had seen so far.

wow... that sucks - but glad it was only the sensor, and not actual low oil pressure.

Oof, the shop I went to that works on a bunch of KDM cars got the job done for around $1100 CDN.

Actual cost to replace the sensor C$1200 with additional C$300 for an early oil change and flush and another C$300 to rent a car during the work.

Glad the part was available and fix is good! So much right with the car and it's holding out very well all things considered

the oil level is fine and I'm not due for an oil change for a couple thousand miles.

I'm at about 89k miles and the car is not driving any differently.

anyone else had this issue ? the light turns off when accelerating and in motion.
I’m having the exact same issue with my 2018 GT2 now. The oil light comes on when stopped but goes away when driving.
Is it a bad oil pressure sensor that fixed this. Or is it some other fix?

Could be low oil pressure.

Could be a defective sensor.
Impossible to accurately diagnose over the internet.

Does the oil light come on when the engine is cold? And warm?
