Oil pressure light comes on only when car is stopped

Could be low oil pressure.

Could be a defective sensor.
Impossible to accurately diagnose over the internet.

Does the oil light come on when the engine is cold? And warm?
This started fairly recently. I’ve given it a fresh oil change but have only driven down the street and back, and so far oil light has not come on.
Prior to changing the oil, I only noticed it after I had driven the car for 30mins on the freeway. It came on when I came to a stop. Temperature gauge on the dial is below half and on the digital gauge it fluctuates between half (200degrees) and slightly above half.

I have read about someone who had a similar issue, that was corrected by using a CORRECT oil filter. The poster said something about an incorrect oil filter was used, causing a low pressure...

local dealership says $3400 to replace oil pressure sensor — seems way too high.

My oil pressure light came on a while back but only early in morning on way to work then would go off.

then light came on and stayed on longer, got nervous (only 3 payments left) and parked her till had time to drop off at dealer this past weekend.

Today dealer says the sensor is leaking oil into jumper harness but since i was already going to pay for a $500-600 tuneup, I could get a discount at $3400 on the oil sensor fix —what a deal!

My Stinger just hit 193,000 miles and the first issue I have had is the Oil Pressure Sensor is going bad: $1,000. As much as I hate to spend money on this, have to say it has been the most dependable car I have ever owned. Nothing else has failed. I guess I am lucky my Kia dealer has been very fair with costs and great with service. Small town so that may be the reason. Anybody getting charged more than about $1,000 is being ripped off.

Jumper harness?

The oil pressure sensor is located under the intake, sorta in the center of the "v' of the v6

I don't think it's difficult - I do think it is laborious.

thank you. I am sure there are quite a few hours of labor charges to remove the top end but still, $3400 seems very high.

Update: oil light went away from sitting for a day and running a while. We presume it was the car adapting itself to the sensor and oil pressure again. Also got my valves walnut blasted while the engine was apart.

Can I ask you about walnut blasting? I found a shop nearby that does walnut blasting. However, they have never done a stinger, just bmw, audis, and subaru. They asked me if there is a special port adapter for the stinger intake valves. Do you know?

I’m not sure but I don’t think there was a special adapter used, otherwise my shop would’ve said something about it to me.

the oil level is fine and I'm not due for an oil change for a couple thousand miles.

I'm at about 89k miles and the car is not driving any differently.

anyone else had this issue ? the light turns off when accelerating and in motion.
Got the exact same problem and the 2024 turbo oil line recall might be the fix.

I had the same issue and fixed it by replacing the oil pressure sensor located underneath the intake manifold and fuel rails.

The culprit is a bad oil sensor. It’s a $100 part that is a $1,000 job and a full day to fix. A real bear to replace. I would recommend doing the oil line recall at the same time to save you from making two trips to the dealer. I would also FIND A DIFFERENT DEALER. $3,400 is outrageous! I live in Maryland where everything is expensive it seems and I only paid $1,000. I have 225,000 miles on my stinger now, and it’s the only issue I have ever had with the car. I can say I have a great relationship with my dealer: Timbrook Kia in Cumberland, Maryland. They have always been excellent and have serviced my Kia for the past 5 years.

Hopefully anyone getting the oil pressure sensor replaced, their mechanics are aware of the shortcut, by gently modifying a 24 mm box and wrench.

I would not advise anyone pay the dealer to replace the oil pressure sensor. It's not really a difficult job. Basically, any mechanic who can do mechanicking, can relatively simply replace this sensor in just a few hours, time stamp video below, I think this video shows the entire procedure to replace it.

There is no need to spend all that time draining the cooling system and removing the main coolant pipe that runs through the center of the V in the engine.

Maryland you say?? I'm in Catonsville. And I'm going thru almost the same thing now with my 19 Stinger. Might have to take a trip to up to Cumberland if the dealer there is better than around here

Sorry to hear that. They are really great to deal with, super nice, and do quality work. They don’t see many Stingers since we are out in the country, so they seem to treat them with extra care. Let me know if you need any help and be glad to assist.

D.J. do you have a diagram showing the resistance of the oil pressure sensor?
