Oil pressure light comes on only when car is stopped

just went to a recommended mechanic and showed him the dealer estimate and he laughed
Did he give you a ballpark estimate for the repair?

Would be,

But.

89k miles

Here in lies the rub.

Yes, the car has 100K mile powertrain, and that covers.... wait for it.................

.

lubricated parts. An oil pressure sending unit is not a lubricated part even through it's oil related. It's an electric/electronic sensor of sorts. Maybe that extended warranty would be helpful now. Maybe not. $715 sounds much better than $3K!

If your lack of oil pressure was due to worn bearings. Now you've got a case for powertrain warranty.

Forgot to add... Since it's just the sender that's malfunctioning.... does it really need to be replaced? Depending what gaskets are leaking, you may as well leave it be. They did verify proper oil pressure at idle and at different rpms?

What exactly is leaking, what gaskets need replacing? Post up the estimate so we're not guessing.

yes as the dealer explained it would not be covered under warranty. the non dealer mechanic put the car on the lift and took a look at things and said yea the they will have to remove some things to get to the sensor but thought 14 hours was ridiculous. I also made to feel the leak was much worse than it actually was or if at all. he said he would order the parts from Kia and I just need to bring the car back Friday morning.

the dealer mechanic listed oil sending unit, intake gasket, surage tank gasket, fuel pipe assembly, and bolt flange altogether. he said those other pieces come with getting a new sending unit because they cannot reuse them and there is no extra labor charge for them. then separately lists oil filter housing for another two hours of labor, totaling 14.

^^So according to your independent tech, what gaskets are leaking? Or are these gaskets necessary for doing the sending unit repair?

What is a surage tank?

he didn't mention he saw leakage but ill ask more Friday. the dealer mechanic said they put some oil in and I've been driving around all day and the light has not come on. I trust if there is he will take care of it. I told him everything the dealer told me and showed him the estimate with all the parts the said they would need. he didnt seem to think it would be that difficult of a repair.

Oh I also want to add the dealer asked me for a survey over text so I gave them a poor rating not only for this, but for the last time I was there and just needed sunroof motors replaced. One of the managers left me a voicemail saying he was very concerned about what he heard and wants to discuss it more. He is already gone for the day so Ill give him a call back tomorrow.

For fun

Here is the oil pressure sensor on the 3.3

Inside the V - under the intake manifold.

Surely a typo for "Surge Tank"

^^Thank you. I wasn't familiar with the term surge tank else it would of came to mind. Apparently something used in turbo engine.

Re sensor. Wonderful it serves double duty. My point was placement could have been improved.

At least it is well protected from external damage (trying to look for a positive)

My Stinger just hit 193,000 miles and the first issue I have had is the Oil Pressure Sensor is going bad: $1,000. As much as I hate to spend money on this, have to say it has been the most dependable car I have ever owned. Nothing else has failed. I guess I am lucky my Kia dealer has been very fair with costs and great with service. Small town so that may be the reason. Anybody getting charged more than about $1,000 is being ripped off.

Better the oil pressure switch than the oil pump.

That's some good high mileage you got there...

So I just got my oil sensor replaced at about 150,000km but the light still goes on. How screwed am I? Is the next step to disassemble again and try replacing the oil pump? How much more work would that be compared to the sensor? I’m very saddened by this outcome since it’s going to cost me thousands.
