Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

Normally, I get in, start it up and say "search settings for forward" so I can disable the forward collision crap.

Today, it kept bring up the 12/24 hr time menu. Tried it half a dozen times then gave up. Mind you, no updates to nav or anything any time recently.

Stupid technology.

I just noticed yesterday that the radio volume and tuning knob is identical to the knob used on the air vents (except for the white line of course).

I just noticed the speedometer goes by 5's until 100kmh/60mph, after that it goes by 10s.

I just noticed a few months ago after a few years of ownership that when you out the car into Sport mode, the head up display digital speedometer italicizes.
I will seriously have to check that out next time I go out.
Always learning stuff on my new car.

I went ahead and checked this out. The digital speedometer display in the dash does indeed italicize, but the HUD does not (in my 2023 at least). It stays normal. That's why I never noticed it because I always look at the HUD and rarely at the instrument cluster.

Better than the one I got in both my BMW and Skoda Octavia, which start wiping, after I crashed into the car before me. Thus I always considered rain sensors completely useless.
No other indications that it was raining and you may want to slow down???

Well over five years into Stingers and my little pinkie knuckle pushed the "Driver 1" settings button while I was idly fiddling with the air vent near the door. The seat and the rest all moved into "1" position, with the car off. I had always assumed that driver settings could only be selected with the system on.

And soon after that, my wife returned from doing bank business and I pushed brake and start button, and got no engine turn-over. And a very stiff brake pedal aaagain. This has now happened three times - possibly four, if my wife's memory of failing to start first thing in the morning is accurate. That was in late winter, early spring this year. Anyway, it is getting old having this start issue occurring more frequently. Today, I got out of the car and moved away and locked and unlocked it with the fob. Got back in and tried, and failed to start it. Opened and closed the door and tried again, vroom! I've spoken about this on other threads recently. Ima sure that "cannot replicate" would be the dealer's response if I took it in for this.

This one is a bit ridiculous to admit. Until yesterday, I never knew that you can access "on stage" or "audience" from the media screen. This discovery was made by me trying to push the "Home" button in the upper left corner, and having that not happen, yet hearing the "beep" - I was fumbling the push and hitting the app below the home button, which I had always taken for just some "QLS" logo related to the system. I hadn't noticed the cycling, teensy red dot beside the tiny grey letters indicating "reference", "audience" and "on stage" until I had pushed that spot a bunch of times, trying to figure out why the screen was beeping at me and not going to the split home screen.

With the post immediately above, that is two discoveries from fumbling. Heh!

Does anybody have any cool quirks, features, or knowledge of their stinger that kia themselves may not have advertised?

I remember coming across this Engineering Explained video years ago. The Stinger GT has sodium filled exhaust valves to help with heat dissipation and also the car has increased cam phasing. Worth a watch.

(Edit: post doesn't really make sense now that it's merged here)

I can think of two.

The MY23 Stinger announces "Animals Crossing" when I approach a "wildlife" crossing sign

But the setting is actually called "Roadkill"

A bicycle sign appears in the centre display when you are about to run over "A bicycle"

I recently noticed that my heated seat had dropped from 3 bars (full strength) to 2, after a half hour or so. I thought maybe I'd bumped the switch, but I noticed it again a week or so later. It appears you get 30min of high, 60min of medium, and then it falls to low:
I've never noticed this because I can't handle 30 minutes of high, amazed anyone can to be honest. Great find though!

Yes to that. I always turn my heat down to low as soon as I can feel the heat, and then off soon after that. I also don't leave my steering wheel heat on much longer than to take the chill away.
