Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

I have said this before they should have had remote windows and even a Mod released to do that. It can't be that hard. It would be a software tweak. Also with 360 cameras they could have defaulted those to be "dashcams"

I guess we can only expect so much from the Koreans

Assembler crawls into bed and says "how 'bout a 69?"

Wife says "I am not getting up and cooking you beef with black bean now"

News to me after 2 years of ownership: you can control the rear seat heaters from the touchscreen!

I rarely mess with the climate screen because I usually just hit the physical buttons down by the shifter, but was looking through the features like Auto Defrost and stumbled into a control screen that lets you turn on, set the level, or turn off the rear heaters.

Didn't grab a picture but thought it was worth a mention.

What model year?
I am 99% sure my 2018 does not have this rear seat heater control from the dash.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Rear Heaters ?????

The only thing I wish MY23 model had was AWD

In OZ we really don't need seat heaters.

The MY23 Stinger GT sold in Australia does not have rear seat heating only front. It also, did not come with AWD

The main reason is that it pushed the price above $71,849 which is the cut off before a luxury car tax of 33% kicks in. The drive away price for a new MY23 Stinger GT was AUD$71,390, just below the threshold and previous years were lower.

Adding $10K to the cost would then add another 33% on that $10K pushing the price over $85K and into Mercedes 250 Coupe territory. Ultimately the Stinger would have lost sales to German made cars

2022–23$71,849
2021–22$69,152
2020–21$68,740
2019–20$67,525
2018–19$66,331

I just discovered that this past weekend, too!

2022, GT2. I'll try to grab a picture tomorrow.
Please do. Quite sure my MY18 GT2 does not have this remote function. Although, when thinking about it, I cannot imagine ever using it--why would the driver ever need to turn on the rear seat heaters when the occupants can do it themselves with their own controls?

What would be handy, but impossible, given the manual nature of the controls, is driver remote control of the rear area heater. It is possible for the rear passengers to deploy full heat at the same time as the AC is on in the rest of the car. It is also possible to leave the rear heater on when exiting the car and then for weeks afterwards, with no one in the rear seats, the rear heater remains on unbeknownst to the driver.

This has a small energy wasting consequence, but more directly overheats the wireless phone charging pad (that sits right above the actual heater unit for the rear of the car). You can't reliably use the wireless charging pad if the rear heater is on (unless the rest of the car interior is kept reasonably cool).

Totally agree. My pick for dumbest thing about the car is that the driver needs to reach back and check the climate settings manually to see what the kids left it at.

I'd imagine it's more to be able to turn it off. But turning it on for kids, and showing off the feature to passengers (or unleashing it on unsuspecting ones) are also possibilities.

Kia didn't fit AWD to the right hand drive Stingers due to packaging restraints.

Kia didn't fit AWD to the right hand drive Stingers due to packaging restraints.
Kia did not initially offer all-wheel drive (AWD) versions of the Stinger in Australia due to a combination of factors, including cost and perceived market demand. While Kia Australia considered AWD, particularly for a high-performance model, it ultimately decided to focus on the more common rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration, which aligned with the Stinger's target market in Australia.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • Cost and Complexity:
Kia Australia cited the added cost and complexity of supporting both RWD and AWD models as a significant factor. They also mentioned the difficulty in delivering the right car to the right destination on time when dealing with multiple configurations.
  • Market Demand:
Kia Australia believed that the RWD Stinger would appeal to buyers who were used to vehicles like the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore, which were also RWD

As promised. Hit Climate button (bottom right of HVAC controls), bottom right under Climate Settings list is "Rear Warmer".

Each level adds another red wavy heat arrow, and brightens the intensity of the orange:

Thanks ChatGPT!

Not Chat GP

Actually went to the detailed report in 2017 by KIA explaining why they were not considering the AWD version for Australia which CHATGP obviously found for you but thank you for going the lazy short cut way and USING CHATGP which is more often than not inaccurate, out of date and incorrect than going to a direct source of accurate material......
