Intake Comparison

Forgot to ask but did you go 4" inlet and 7" length? Thx again :)
I gave the exact reference, that should answer your question. ;)

Does anyone have numbers for the AEM intakes?
Intakes maybe get you 5-10 hp. The biggest benefit is you get more sound. See some of the videos earlier in this thread to hear what I’m talking about. If you are buying intakes to get a big hp gain, then save your money. It’s really more about the sound.

Thank you for the reply. I've been looking at NGM or AEM intakes. I currently have a cat back and I read intakes would help with a bit more power and flow. I just don't see how some intakes cost a lot when compared to others.

I have the NGM intake. It has a good sound to it and you cant beat the price

My concern is the heat soak. A lot of ppl say shields help and others say it's not noticeable. Since you have the NGM have you noticed any trouble with running in sport during your drives since our engines run hotter in sport. know if your filters are dry or oil filters?

Thanks

the best bang for the buck would be a piggyback tuner. I have the Racechip that brought here second hand fir about 1/2 the cost of a new one, and it works great if you don’t want to go mod crazy. If you want to go performance mod crazy then look at the JB4 or Lap3.

In terms of cost: DIY is the best, followed by AEM, K&N, BMS
In terms of look: JT is the best followed by Injen.
In terms of performance: JT followed by Injen and DIY.
In terms of awesomeness : JT hands down.
There are only a few intakes that go above and beyond. BMS,AEM,K&N are all the basic ones that follow the crowd. If you want something above the rest then get the JT

I do want to mention I have to 2.0T model so do consider the source. I haven't felt or noticed any difference when running in sport. For my model, i think sport mode just makes the response better and shifts at higher rpms but i'm not sure. A heat shield would only help in general but you could make one for nothing. I just recently put on a 200 cell cat last week and could tell the difference more than the intake by far. I haven't check my filter in awhile so Ill check it out and get back with you. You could always by cheaper version and put the money on the filter depending on the type of intake you get. I think JT intakes are the best because its up near the front of the bumper where the holes are. nobody else has that and I personally feel they should because of the hole already there.

Intakes that are open definitely see warm IAT, I saw it plenty on the track and the street. I had an intake on my Mustang, it was closed off from the engine but the powder coated steel heat shield would warm up from the engine bay heat and the IAT would go up quite badly. I would say yes that steel intake components can suffer from heat soak.

Thanks for that. I assume JT is Johny tig? I have to look into those intakes. I just can't justify some of the prices of the intakes. They're a bit excessive.

I see. I mean here in Toronto it doesn't get too hot, but you get those days and when our engines run hotter than others, any bit counts I guess. I wonder how bad heat soak will affect street driving.

Yes JT is Johnny Tig. Expensive but getting cheaper by the day with the aus dollar value falling.
Other unique option was the SSR or something like that, but they stopped making them.
And the good stuff is always going to be more expensive.

Having had K&N and now JT, JT Intakes are sooo much better. Love the performance, ease to remove the filters for recharging, and just look at them!

Unfortunately you just missed out on a group buy for these, it's still pretty high for "just an intake" but the discount made it actually justifiable instead of a pipe dream. You get what you pay for with these JT units in terms of quality and engineering, if not outright performance.

FWIW, my AEM intakes came 6 stickers (+5HP each) and a license plate frame that's gotta be good for +15HP.
