Intake Comparison

Has anyone tried the HPS intakes? They look nice and are in the orientation that seems the best according to the diy community. I was going to get the velossa tech snorkels regardless of what intake I get outside of the JT because they come with new snorkels. I'm more than willing to be a guinea pig for the forums unless some people have some underwhelming/horror stories about them.

I haven't heard anything about the HPS intakes, but this is the first I'm hearing about that orientation being preferred in DIY setups. Seems like you'd be guaranteeing hotter air by pushing them further into the engine bay. Not that it would be much different, but likely at least a little hotter. Just my 2 cents.

I'm new to all of this so I'm not proficient enough at crossposting but if you look at page 19 post #374 of the diy intake thread the guy was saying he gets cooler iat when the filters were pointed back to the stock air box versus towards the front as seen in the injen and JT intakes. It does perplex me a little bit as well because you would think the opposite would be true. I ended up being a conformist and getting a different intake mainly because I haven't heard of HPS however it seems as if the reviews of their other intakes are favorable.

Hello everyone,

If I could ask for some help on what would be better to get for my Stinger.

Im on the fence between AEM and Injen.

Reason is I'm stuck between these 2 is that AEM is cheaper and reading from somewhere here in the thread (I think, or in youtube) that it gave about a 18WHP/15TQ increase.

But with the Injen, it gives a 18WHP/23TW increase, and I've noticed on youtube the "Whooshing" sound from the turbos sound significantly louder, which I totally want.

I've seen here that having the heatshield is important for the intake is important, which AEM has, but supposedly it hasnt been much of a difference with the injen intake.

Not unless somebody has any other input in what would be better.

Would it be better to get the AEM then get the updated blowout valve if I wanted more whoosh sound?

Im so lost. Help!

Injen would have been my choice

I’m happy with my aem intakes..they’re are both going to sound similar anyway and comparing the dyno numbers isn’t accurate.
This video shows the sound difference pretty well. Aem at 2:12 and Injen at 2:50

So I don't know that I can answer all of your questions, but I can provide what little insight that I have. I've got the AEM intakes and I really like them. Take power gain numbers with a grain of salt because results may vary.
I went with the AEM kit because it's essentially the same design as the K&N intake (sister companies) but you don't have to mess with oiled filters. The AEM kit uses dry cone filters. The only downside is that the pipes are plastic, but there's already a ton of black plastic under the hood anyway so they blend in well.
The Ingen kit looks sick, especially in red, and has bigger filters, but I think that's kind of where the advantage ends. Metal tubing may be subject to more heat soak than plastic and, like you said, you don't get any shrouds. But if I'm honest, I don't think the AEM shrouds really isolate the filters that well. They're pretty open at the top b/c they don't seal against the hood. So perhaps at speed, they are better, but who knows?
If you want good looks, fully sealed design, and big filters look at the Jonny Tig set up. Downside there is that they're hella expensive.
As far as noise goes, I can hear those wooshy boys under the hood just fine.

In the Injen camp myself. Pop the hood they look great, give it some go juice they sound great.

Has anyone had experience with feeling like their car is slower with intakes on? I installed aem intakes a few days ago and it seems like all my pulls are extremely lackluster. Now, it has been tits hot outside ever since I installed them but even in the morning on my way to work the car seems to be much more tame. I did not disconnect the battery, I was going to do that when I install my new spark plugs this week.

I have the AEMs and they are very noticeable when you step on the loud pedal. But with any open intake you won't need to change the BoV's.

I think it's just the heat. I'll lose an easy .3 to .4 seconds off my 0-60 in 95 degree weather vs 50 degree weather. Also remember that your car will adjust performance down to protect the car much faster than up.

What I mean is that, if it's 60 degrees one day, then 95 the next, then 60 the third day, you'll have a fast car on the first day, a slower car on your first pull the second day, and a car that's still slower on the third day, even though the temp dropped. It'll take multiple runs over multiple cooler days to get your car back to what it was before the 95 degree day.

At least that's my personal experience and what it looks like based on how my logs change with temperature. It's one of the reasons why I try not to rip on it in hot weather.

For reference, I'm on a JB4 Map 2 with gapped Denso plugs on 93 Octane, DIY intakes, and 22lb wheels.

I feel the same way, installed AEM intakes about 1.5 months ago (disconnected the negative terminal also) and car is not as responsive as used to be with stock airbox. Thinking about putting the stock units back on. Disappointing.

Was the temperature cooler before you put the intakes on? I recently dropped 40lbs of wheel weight with new wheels and saw a .2s increase in 0-60, but it's only because it's been WAY hotter out since the day I swapped the wheels. I won't know if they actually made a difference until the temperature drops at least 40 degrees and stays there for a few days.

Yes it was definitely cooler. I'm sure temperature is a factor that why I was thinking about going back stock air box because it completely enclosed and only source of air from opening from top front. The engine bay get really really hot and I "feel" like the AEM is drawing in all that hot air from the engine compartment especially because I don't have a snorkel up front. I do want to add a snorkel but hesitant because it may draw in water when it rains. I'm not planning on heavily modding the car so should have just got couple of the K&N panel filters. I don't know...

If you installed the boxes with the weather stripping there's no way for much, if any, hot air to enter. The AEM's pull air from the same spot the factory boxes do.

I went back to the factory airbox. Pulls are extremely hard again.

Yes sir, weather stripping on. Comfort mode feels like Eco mode now...I have to stomp on the gas to before its shifts down and start pulling. I remember gas pedal being much more sensitive with the stock air box. I have no empirical evidence of course, I just remember it pulling much harder with stock airbox and gas pedal being more sensitive. Maybe its all in my head. I bought my gt2 new this past March so maybe its just way behaves in hot weather. Going to order two new factory hoses that come off the factory valve thingy (where folks put aftermarket BOV) and put factory airboxes back and see if it was all in my head. I had to snip these hoses to make it fit AEM. Anyone have part number for these hoses?

What intake is the best option for the 2020 GT1 ? K&N? Or would someone recommend a different one?

Opinions differ but AEM, Injen and Johnny Tig all seem to be very popular. Personally I went with AEM because of price, ease of install and maintenance, supplied heat shield and reduced heat soak.
