You would figure, it would be right there next to tire size.

Have the Michelin Pilot Sport 4, 19' (ZR rated ... up to 187 MPH) on my AWD so I guess I'm good to go 167 MPH. True, safe road test sometimeView attachment 5586 in the future to be 100% sure. Unanswered questions drive me crazy!!! Will be a once in a lifetime experience, lol. Very rarely do I speed. I prefer very fast acceleration to high speed driving:D.

Love them tires and wheels, I'm just green with envy!!!

Painted the hubs gloss black.:)

Brother, I'm all about, (making it yours) you go ahead and do what ever, makes you happy.
When comes to the one I own, I do the same. That's what I think is the American way. It looks good with the black.!!

dealers have no control on what trims types are delivered to them.

That is not true. I ordered my GT2 with 19" wheels. Dealers can and do order what they want within the limitations of color combinations with certain trim levels. In the U.S. so far, as far as I know, you cannot order a "custom" build, but you can pick from what's being built. I saw the order sheet, double checked it and ordered what I wanted. I think there are pre-built cars in the "pipeline" and dealers pick from what's shipped. They do have a choice. The main problem is that most dealer personnel who order cars only think about what they can move quickly. They don't read specs, they look at profits. Many of these people are bean-counters, not car lovers. It's a product to them. They don't care about the esoteric value of the car. They know from statistics that gray (silver) cars sell more than green, so that's what they order. If they live in snowy climates, it only makes sense that more people will want all-weather tires than summer performance tires. Same price - no brainer to them.

Same thing here in California actually it was the West Coast rep who found the car for the dealer We were for looking up in Portland OR . Or salesman told us that they would only get a heads up damn near when the truck was leaving the yard to the dealership on what they were getting .

At the dealership here in Colorado, all the cars on the lot where the same, as far as and all season tires. I believe I got the only one that was completely loaded and with red napa leather seats (love that leather) except remote start, i dont care nothing about that, because i have it on a couple of my trucks, and it will get you in trouble up here. Severe idling laws, neighbors will rat you out. More than a couple a minutes and they will have detective Friday standing in your yard..

FYI you can quote a post and reply to it in the same post, just type after the QUOTE tag ends.

This is likely a liability and CYA thing... it seems everybody is suing anybody they can these days... can you imagine if a tire blowout happened with the 18" Y-rated tires at speeds higher than they are rated because the car is able to go faster than that rating? There are probably regulations on this (or will be)...

This won't make anyone who ordered the 18" wheels feel better but the reduced top speed is probably true for "all" manufacturers. For example, I'm looking closely at the Stinger GT but drive a 2014 Audi S4 right now...it is exactly the same issue, S4s with 19" wheels have a top speed of 155 and those with 18" wheels have a top speed of 130. It is all about the tire ratings and undoubtedly, potential liability. The obvious issue is that Kia should have been very clear about this issue. Then the buyer could have decided what was most important to them.

First car Kia ever made that was faster than the tires. Give 'em a break.

I don't know if that was a joke or not but the Optima SX OEM tires were V rated for 149mph. Odd that they would give a car with ~100 more horsepower the same cheap rated tires and yet I know the 2011/12 Optima SX was speed governed at 152mph.

Very true. This isn't just a Kia thing. I just wonder if Audi makes it more obvious throughout the sales process. I'm guessing they don't...

That is quite odd. I don't think anybody would be complaining if their top speed was limited to 149 miles per hour...

I'm not sure. I think people would still feel upset because a lot of advertising said 167 mph top speed.

I just recently purchased a stinger Gt 2, two days later found out it would only run 140 mph. This was serious mistake on my part, I noticed the 18 inch wheels and asked why, sales man at peak Kia, told me that awd cars had the option to get all season tires, and if you got that they changed the tire size to better fit. I thought sounds like crap, but he assured me Kia changed nothing else. Then found out different. I just knew when I seen the V speed rating on that 18 inch tire, that something was wrong. If any body knows why Kia done all of this I would love to hear it
Thanks, I live in Colorado so the awd is a must.
This is on the Kia.com website. under build your own Stinger I saw it when I ordered my Stinger GT2 with the 18" tires. so they did clearly list on their website. All-Season Tire Package $0
Includes:

  • All-Season Tires (P225/45R18)
  • 18" Alloy Wheels, GT style
  • Stinger GTs that are factory-equipped with 18-inch wheels are limited to 130 mph top speed (e.g., installation of 19-inch wheels will not increase the top speed).

Right. I'm sure some people would still complain. But I think people would generally feel less uncomfortable with 150 as opposed to 130...

This is what I was talking about too. I read this when building a Stinger online.

In other news, I got up to 152 mph this weekend. It got there quickly and had tons of pull left. I was approaching traffic so I didn’t get past 152 but it definitely had more. I have the GT AWD with 19” wheels.

From what I read about this (I think somewhere in this thread) Kia didn't originally have that disclaimer on the website or brochure.
