G70 out sold Kia Stinger in Korea

Love that interior. Why couldn't genesis to a hatch and Kia the compact sedan.

The head says G70 but the heart says Stinger
You know the right thing to do ... :)

I looked at the G70 at the Calgary auto show a couple of weeks ago, part of my 'final tour' of what was on the market before purchasing the Stinger. The styling didn't do anything for me (interior or exterior), and for the amount of times I anticipate having contact with the dealer, the concierge level service (during or after sale) is of no consequence for me. The G70 stereo did sound nice, but I love the HK stereo in the Stinger Limited as well.

After seeing it up close, sitting in it, and a lengthy talk with the Genesis salesperson, the G70 never even made the consideration list. He didn't have CAD pricing yet, but said it would likely be a few thousand more than the Stinger. I did take another close final look at the Audi S5 SB and the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport at the show, but I walked away at the end of the show (somewhat slowly, as I went through a lot of cars!) with a clear cut winner for what to purchase - and I did. :)

Hope you get what you want soon, and good luck with whatever way you decide to go. I couldn't be happier with the choice I made - both heart and head ....

For those cross shopping, here's what we've all been waiting for, G70 pricing... in Canada dollars.
Yes, they sent me a 'pre-order' offer email this morning, stating the pre-order period had been extended into April, and it looks like the pricing is live on their website now. I'm sure it will be a great sedan for those in the market for that - I am a big fan of the powertrain ... :)

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
It doesnt have the practicality nor the design of the Stinger. The interior is a lot of luxury "in your face" but it doesnt look as good, and the back row is very tight for a weight gain of only 80Kg (in a 1800+Kg car). Lastly, the exterior is very unspecial with a lot of i30/sonata design cues.
So this may be a personnal opinion but I am far from thinking the g70 is a Stinger with more options. :)

The lease was up on my 2015 Genesis and I switched to the Stinger GT2 AWD.
The Genesis is more luxurious and does have a few more creature features but the Stinger makes me smile a lot more.

Looks like someone just bought a red G70 in my appartment building.

^ Keep in mind that was the design language when Genesis models were still part of Hyundai.

Going forward, Genesis models will be getting either of these new grille shape, as well as the new light treatment.

Don't care for the shape/look of the grille on the GV80 concept, so hope they change it a bit.

The face-lifted G90 is already getting the new look.

Very good point! And thank goodness...

That's weird. I wonder why they would use the Elantra/Sonata styling on the brand new G70 and then change it on the G90.

So now the 2019 G70 will have a different "signature look" than the 2019 G90? Then what, refresh the G70 next year? They're confusing the hell out of me. (Sorta like typing "G70" and "G90" is confusing my auto correct)

I also recently took a picture because I wanted to say the same thing.
At work there was the usual blue G70, and next to it, I saw what looked like another G70.
Looking closer, it was an i30.
Of course once you know it's an i30 you do not mistake the two, but at first glance that's the impression you get,
and if the G70 was not a flashy blue color and a same grey color, I assure you the resemblance would have been striking.
Once you get past the resemblance, it doesn't look bad at all, but it just doesn't stand out.
And unless you straight-pipe it, use chrome window tint and gold wheels, most people will not turn his head in the street and say "wow, what is this car?". ;)

Stinger and Optima have their similarities too mostly from sideview window shape, but not as close to G70vsHyundai. Maybe its just me.

Yes, they share design elements too.
But I never see an optima and get the feeling "is this a stinger?" or the opposite..
Maybe it is because my eye is trained to the Stinger design. :)

If it wasn't for the emblem, people could think this is the new Sonata sport. (nothing against the Sonata)

I've had a few moments where I thought an Optima was a stinger till I got closer. And the new models have the same tail lights so from the rear it looks near identical at night.

I actually had someone who thought I modified an optima.

The G70's design was frozen sometime around 2013 or 2014 - which was not only before the Genesis New York concept was done, but the GV80 concept and now the Essentia.

New York concept

This was before Hyundai decided to spin of Genesis as a separate lux brand before Luc Donckerwolke, Sangyup Lee and Sasha Selipanov (the designers charged with coming up w/ the new design language for the Genesis brand) came aboard (Luc was the first and joined Hyundai in late 2015).

It's really not weird at all.

For instance, the GS was the first Lexus model to get the spindle grille/Predator-maw, and while models like the ES and IS soldiered on as is until their redesign (their next gen models were due shortly after the GS), models still in the middle of their life-cycle such as the LS, RX, GX and LX got the Predator-maw tacked on to the front for their respective facelifts (for the LS, it was the 2nd, more comprehensive refresh).

Also saw the same thing along the lines with Lincoln.

The Continental showcased Lincoln's new front fascia/grille design (being Lincoln's 4th grille design in not much more than a decade) - which was counter to what the MKC, MKX, MKZ, etc. had.

Then Lincoln tacked on the new grille design for the MKZ's facelift and is about to do the same for the MKX (renamed the Nautilus), followed by the MKC.

Can also see the same thing w/ regard to Hyundai crossovers.

The Kona signaled Hyundai's new CUV design language w/ the split head light and modified grille design.

The new Santa Fe (replacing the Santa Fe Sport) also gets a similar look, but the current 3-row Santa Fe (renamed the XL) with the old design language will carry on and be sold alongside the new SF until it gets replaced by Hyundai's new, larger 3-row CUV (may be called the Palisade).

The Tucson just underwent its facelift w/ major changes to the interior but minor exterior changes; it too, will be in stark contrast to the newer Hyundai CUVs until its redesign for the next gen model.

So now the 2019 G70 will have a different "signature look" than the 2019 G90? Then what, refresh the G70 next year? They're confusing the hell out of me. (Sorta like typing "G70" and "G90" is confusing my auto correct)

In all likelihood, the G70 will carry on until it is due to get its mid-cycle facelift in about 3-4 years.

Hyundai was using the hexagonal-shaped grille on both their mainstream and luxury models.

The differentiation was in the shape of the hexagon.

The mainstream models have more of a convex shape to them where the top sides of the hexagon are at an angle; for the G70, G80 and G90 - the top sides are close to being vertical.

Don't know why they went w/ a more vertical shape (like for the Genesis models) on the i30, when the i30N has more of the traditional Hyundai design.

Anyhow, the designs were still too similar in shape which is why the Genesis design language going forward will have the distinctive lighting design as well as a more differentiated grille design.

Only thing really similar btwn the Stinger and the Optima is the greenhouse and more so w/ the previous gen Optima than the current model (when first saw the previous Optima, thought to myself - that design, in particular the greenhouse, is too good for a FWD family sedan - and evidently someone at Kia, Schreyer, agreed).
