G70 out sold Kia Stinger in Korea

My wife likes power as much as I do. She wasn't keen on getting one until she drove it on out test drive, she was then hooked too.

Too funny! Same story on my side. I've been obsessing about this car for over a year. My wife was against me getting any new car, then when I started talking about "for this price point, I can get a Merc, or BMW, or maybe wait for the k900, or g70". She's like "No, get the damn stinger, I'm sick of hearing abut it". So I'll probably get one just on principal at this point. We'll see what happens in a year or two with all the other cars, and maybe I'll trade in.

Let us know how you end up. I think a lot of us are interested. I haven't driven the G70 yet but will do so soon. From what I've read/watched, I'm guessing the G70 will feel a bit tighter than the Stinger GT. It's 4" shorter and should be more of a "sport sedan" drive. Personally, I love the gran turismo characteristics of the Stinger - the combo of sports performance, room/practicality, compliant as a DD, and the "long legs" on extended interstate hauls. Keep us posted.

For Oct., the G70 outsold the Stinger by greater than a 4x ratio - 1,406 to 438 in Korea.

The Stinger really needs to do well in the US (by far its largest market) for Kia to continue investing in the model.

It's not really a brand-thing as the K900 has been selling very well over there (3 to 4x more than the Stinger).

The K900 sells much less than the G90.
It is a brand thing as Korean people care much more about the brand than the car itself.
It is not rare to see people with low income getting in debt to buy a 3 series base model just to be able to show off the bimmer badge.
In Korea, they think that Genesis is a much higher brand than Hyundai/Kia even though they share the same dealerships, service centers, factories..
The newspapers, TV and online new sites are paid by Hyundai to lie to the customers saying that Genesis is taking over the rest of the world and earning tons of awards. It is ridiculous, almost everyday car magazines have an article on how the Genesis is amazing and superior.
So the Genesis branding "trick" works wonders on Korean people here and that's why I don't think Korea is a very representative market for car sales. You could really sell cow dung as an expensive luxury good if you attached a "chanel" or "louis vuitton" sticker to it.

Google translate is not working on your post. Could you phrase that in English?

The previous K900 sold significantly poorer as it was on an old/outdated platform (so, was basically a generation nehind).

The updated K900 has been significantly outselling the EQ900 (which is hitting its mid-life); the EQ900 should leap back in front w/ the extensively redone face-lifted version, but the K900 should still continue to sell pretty well.

For Oct. -
K900 - 1,220
EQ900 - 309

And it's been like that for some time...

June sales -
K900 - 1,661
EQ900 - 662

Think the problem for the Stinger has to do w/ its value proposition relative to the G70 (which has the more luxurious interior and customer service) and the Korean market tending to be more conservative when it comes to sheetmetal and favoring traditional sedans over fastbacks/liftbacks.

I didn't know about the new K900, I was thinking about the old one.
The refreshed K900 is a new car and the G90 will be refreshed next month so we need to see how the dust settles after that. But I can assure you that in the streets you see nine G90 for one K900, if not less.

^ Even when new, the EQ900 never regularly sold over 3k/month (maybe once in a blue moon); the K900 isn't exactly new anymore, it's in its 8th month.

Think the ratio bwtn the 2 will be somewhere btwn 2:1 and 3:1.

From what I have seen in the Korean YouTube videos, the Stinger over there has a little bit better quality in the suspension and other areas. One would think they would ship these version outside the home market as the car doesn’t seem to be appreciated there as much as other places. They could do commercials here for example, highlighting those items. In my opinion, the Stinger should have one touch up/down windows all around, thicker glass and better sealing for the doors to keep the water off the sills. Oh yeah, the suspension could be a bit better by adding a better Sport mode.

The Stinger should be treated like the K900 here, it is being considered their halo car now and will certainly sell more than the K900. They need to do more to treat it and the buyer with a higher level of support. Just my feeling on it.

I browsed the G70 forum, there is a thread about crappy MPG. I'm wondering what they get in that car but they don't say...just complaining about it. I was surprised at how good the fuel mileage is in the awd stinger gt2. I saw 27.x mpg from nm to az.
