Concerns - Popping/Creaking Noise from Sunroof

The sunroof on my Kia Stinger GT2 has been creaking and rattlings since about 1 month into ownership. I have it set to go to dealer for repair, and I hope it is done right the first time. Rather disappointing issue on a $50K car.

Took my car in on Friday. They said they would have to keep the car for a day just to even figure out what the issue is as they will have to pull down the entire headliner. Might consider it in a couple of weeks as I don't think I can put up with it for much longer.

I tried the "fixes" posted above with the grease on the rubber weatherseal. That did not help at all.

What was your build date? Mine is 11/2017.

Mine is currently at the dealership on day #3 of them trying to figure out how to fix the sunroof rattle. Apparently "Techline" is slow to get back to dealerships on what to do about this issue.

Please let us know what the fix is. I am still hesitant to take my car and leave it with them. Closest dealership is terrible and I don't trust the service guys, they even wiped / deleted my dash cam when they were done (who does that!?). Other dealerships are 35-40 minutes away.

Will do.

I ve got the same problem with Sunroof (in two months car) - maybe KIA solve this issue or forummembers.

I got the Stinger back from the dealer Friday. The sunroof still rattles, but it's not as bad as before. If I have the sunshade open, music and AC off...I can hear it if I'm listening for it. Other than that, I don't hear it. I'll take it in again if it gets worse or when some more time has passed...maybe they'll have identified a permanent fix for it by that point.

No issues yet on mine. Though I have only opened it once or twice so far.

Did they state what they did to troubleshoot it?

Not really. All they said was that they had to call it into "Techline" to find out what Kia wanted them to do to fix it. The paperwork I got when I picked it up said "adjusted sunroof glass."

About 8000 miles in on my Stinger Premium and the sunroof recently started making all kind of noises...
I will keep monitoring it but I might have to have them do something about it next time I visit my dealership.

Be advised that they may need to keep your Stinger for a few days while they figure out what Kia wants them to do about it.

My stinger is now at a local auto glass place in order to fix the sunroof creaking noise. I'm curious as to what exactly needs to be done, esp if the dealer cannot do it.

Keep us updated! Would love to get mine fixed as well. Thank you.

Sunroof was lubed, but not sure what else was done at auto glass place. While better, sunroof still creaks. Service coordinator told me that they heard same sound in different Stinger so they’re not sure if it’s “operating as intended” or not. Coordinator claims Kia is gathering data on the issue and he will call me if an actual fix is issued.

Ironically, dealer performed rear hatch TSB fix too. Coordinator told me that first fix by Kia didn’t always work, so another fix was issued. He’s hoping same will happen with sunroof noise issue based on data being gathered by Kia.

Should those of us with the sunroof noise issue start calling Kia directly? It would be nice to help Kia coordinate and release a fix that is livable.

Any news on that one? I think I hear the same, tried WD-40 with no effect, need to try more proper stuff on it.

I put on some silicone lube, helped a little. I'm adding chassis bracing shortly and think that will help. My theory is the creaks are caused by the chassis twisting on bumps. I just added a front sway bar which really stiffened the suspension (by making it less independent) and my sun roof creaks have increased.

Let us know. That is the same theory I have. If the bracing helps reduce or eliminate the creaks I will definitely get it.

This chassis does not need bracing! It was developed from the ground up to be stiff. And all road tests confirm it to be so. The latest Motor Trend comparison tests return favorable experiences of the entire car being predictable, smooth and responsive to the driver's demands; as well as not being overpowered by the 3.3TT. All of this says that the chassis is one of the best aspects of the Stinger. If you try to stiffen it, or the suspension, you can only expect more rattles and a rougher ride: which will naturally produce noises (even from the sunroot) that were not there before. If you want a track car, you shouldn't have a sunroof in the first place.

This car handles very well despite its flexy chassis. Chasis bracing with out stiffening the suspension will make it rattle free.
My driveway has a steep off camber turn that gives the car a good twist. This is my most flexy car since my 2000 Mustang Convertible.

I had my car in twice over the last month for the sunroof issue. The "fixed" it by installing metal shims as they saw that there was a lot of pressure on the glass. Did it fix it? No. They now claim that it's part of the vehicle's design and works as intended. They said all the other stinger had the rattling issue as well...
