Changed non-electronic shifter knob to Hyundai one

I had the same feeling. It is a 30 minute or less swap but I wish they would have stated that the other collar would be needed instead of "minor adjustments needed".
Yeah especially if what you're saying is true about the uneven fit if you just dremel the bottom a bit.

It may just be me but to open the collar up so that it fit, I still didn't like the way it would sit on the shift boot. I felt like it looked like Felonious Gru from Despicable Me. wider shifter, tiny waist/bottom.

Just finished installing the new shifter. One thing that I'd do differently next time is to not trim the boot at the top. I found that you could work it up pretty well but because I trimmed some, the stock boot is very tight in manual mode when downshifting. Still works well just an observation. I'd also suggest double sided tape instead of worrying about hot glue. you can put it around the inside collar, snip the corners of the boot so that it folds into the collar, then the pressure from the knob seating keeps the boot perfectly in place and clean.

Did you guys have to do anything special to make your shift button work?
The stock shifter button has that bar that rests on the C groove on the shift lever, the santa fe knob has a flat piece so it does not catch on the stock shift lever.
If I push the knob down all the way then it keeps the shift button permanently engaged, thus being a very large hazzard if the knob would ever be accidently bumped from Drive to Reverse/Park.

Did you guys have to do anything to make the i30/optima/telerude shifter not do this, or did it just fit the stock C grove in the shift lever.

Can anyone confirm if the N performance shifter will work with the Kia K5. In looking at the boot for both the GT1 and the K5, they appear to be the same.

I can't confirm this since I don't have a K5.

But I can tell that the stock Kia Stinger base and GT1 shift knob has an inner shaft dimension of about 12 to 13mm.

If you measure your K5 shift knob and it has similar inner shaft dimension, then there is a good chance that the N shift knob will fit the K5.

Part numbers are different for the Stinger and K5 shift knobs.

Sorry for the late reply - no did not have to do anything to make the i30 shifter fit. I took out a metal loop that would have held it more securely (because it was a bit tight and I didn't want to force anything), so sometimes it comes off it I pull too hard, but, it rarely happens. Shifting just works.

(the knob coming off reminds me of my first VW - '84 GLI - it was used and had a shifter ball that was held on by a set screw. I would work itself loose every few weeks. Go to shift into 2nd energetically, and - the knob comes off in your hand - good times :-)

Took another attempt at installing the Santa FE shifter this last weekend and figured it out.

The problem was that the hole in the shift knob was smaller than the diameter of the shift arm. So I drilled it out to 11/32 and it fit, I then just needed to file some new grooves into the shift arm for the retaining pin.
With the bottom chrome trim piece removed from the Hyundai knob, the stinger boot->knob clip mated up to it so close I opted to leave it. Would rather be able to easily go back to stock, vs cut up the boot to get rid of the nearly invisible nub where the boot is not perfect to the new knob.

WOW that one is cool. Do you recall where on the arm you had to file? was it above the ones that are there for the OEM knob? Do you have the part number?

There was 2 sets of grooves that where there, and the ones I filed in where above the top one.

Hyundai part number is: 46720 S1200NNB

On order!
Seems you are going to be switching shift knobs, had you done the "N" one already? If so and you decide to sell it let me know. I plan on ordering one probably next week but if you are unloading one shoot me a PM

I never did the N shifter, only a Sportage and now the Soul/K3/Seltos knob. I might sell the Sante Fe knob I just got in. I did the Soul knob because it had the red stiched shift boot attached that i always wanted and didn't get in the GTS.

did u dremmel or hack saw? Also that bottom silver trim piece, did you use it to hold up the boot?

I used a file

The boot actually stays up without anything. With that said, that is a good idea, might need to trim/modify it a bit for that purpose.

I feel like the odd man out asking after reading all this…. But how on earth do I get the damn thing off? I modded this whole car to low 11s and can’t swap the shift knob. Shoot me lol.

Anyone got better removal video?
