New Intake

Sad news. I just got this message in my email inbox.

"Thank you for your recent order.

Item 46-20504-B is currently out of stock and we anticipate the Blade Runner Aluminum Hot and Cold Charge Pipe Kit Black to be available in 12-14 weeks."

In for the long wait. I won't be canceling the order, so I'll be keeping my spot in line.

When I placed my order the vendor (Tuner Sports) said they had (1) left "IN STOCK". Shortly thereafter I got an automated message from their system which read:
Thank you for your recent order with us. The item listed below is in-stock and your order has been sent to the warehouse for shipment. Your order can no longer be changed or canceled. You will be updated with tracking information once it is available.

1 x aFe Bladerunner I/C & Tubes (46-20504R)

I sent them back a note just now asking if it was possible to confirm the in-stock status at the warehouse...

TWN 2RBO (Nick) has a video on the Injen carbon heat shields. I think the increased airflow is enough to keep air temps down but the shields may help too.

Yeah, I've watched that one about 3 times now . They are tempting, and toning down the radiative heat is surely a good thing... I imagine that combining them with the Velossa Techs or similar air scoops would be win-win.

There is a 3D print available for intake scoops.

Got a link handy?

I know Velossa Tech makes some fabulous ones.
I'm also interested in an air box or other enclosure that will provide a bit more insulation from the engine bay. As Devin said later on...

Hot air intakes exchange heat for volume (the entire engine bay), cold air intakes all use the existing passage through the radiator support, so they exchange volume for heat.

I'm wondering what happens if we try for both. Short Ram + Cold Air (big mouth) snorkels + Insulation from the heat of the engine bay...

Hmm, might be that what we need is a new hood design, one that has some scoops right over the intakes...

Thingiverse has them listed under Kia Stinger.

I made a set for myself just waiting to do the intercooler and I will put them on.

Nice. I still don’t have a 3D printer. Too many decent options quickly superseded by another wave of too many better options keeps me in constant paralysis by analysis.

All the things!

Update: they sent me a tracking # today, so I may well be the luckiest one… scooped up the last set of red charge pipes in the warehouse… perhaps the country.

Lucky...I guess just the black charge pipes are out of stock.

Indeed. Might also have been my choice of vendor. They seemed to have them for the cheapest rate. And like many out of state, independent auto parts vendors, they gratefully did not add sales tax to the purchase price. Double-win for the pocket book. Triple considering that shipping was also free.

I got an Email from my vender (leathal performance) that my intakes wont be shipping till 9/11. I'm ok with that. no rush to work out in this heat. just stocking up on parts till the fall.

Seems like the induction noise is a lot less than the open filter setups. I would miss my turbo spool a lot lol.

I'm curious what these metal aFe BladeRunner charge pipes are going to sound like...

Installed mine today and have done a heat cycle on the car. Install is a PITA as everything is very tight and hard to work around. I'm use to Mustangs and having space for activities. Alighnment of the various hoses, clamps, and boxes is very precise. If you don't spend a lot of time working on stuff with your hands, I don't recommend this as a DIY. Also, was missing two #032 clamps and had to find some. I thought I inventoried it beforehand but apparently not. I have the dual catch can kit from ADD-W1 and you'll have to rework the hoses from the instructions to get everything to work. Love the way it looks, feels a slight bit of improvement in sport, and extra noise from the engine is nice. Worth it, but I'm never working on my car myself again.

I'll get them when I recover from being out in the heat. I tried to take them as I went but when I started running into problems it skipped my mind lol.

Fair enough, that’s why I had them fitted by the agent who sells them, looks like a plumbing nightmare.

I agree it's a nightmare to align them right as still tighten them. I had to loop one of the hoses from the catch can kit till I can trim the hose down. In many spots my cheater electric ratchet couldn't get in so I had to do manually with maybe a 1/4 turn at most on the ratchet. I also used the factory hose from the bov as the hose provided was way to long a crimped. The stock lines up almost perfect. If you want any better images of some hook ups let me know and I'll see if i can get them on camera.

It was definitely quite a bit more difficult than other intakes and they also didn’t include the #32 clamps. Seems to be common thing, I had to reuse the OEM turbo clamps.

Took me about 2h. Super happy with them, but I’m dreading taking them off before going to a dealer in the future lol

The intake definitely knows the installer doesn't have many options to punish it for not going in easy. Most other intakes realize that a hammer is an option when installing them. This intake knows you can't use a hammer and relishes in the fact you have to play nice for it to all work.
