Wheel/size/offset and tire/size/profile...can be confusing.

The tire/wheel chart I go by says that 275 is the maximum size for 9.5 wide. And 255 is maximum size for 8.5 wide; so you're okay there. Clearance inside the front fender with 35 offset and 255/35 tire looks good. But matching the rear to get the same overall diameter doesn't work with a 295/30 because you have no fender clearance and even poke. And using a recommended max 275 creates aspect ratio difficulties where the rear overall diameter is either smaller or larger than the front.

265/35 comes closer, with only 4mm of difference between front and rear sidewall height, with the rear looking that teensy bit taller, with overall 7mm OD bigger in the back; and it has fender clearance that matches the front fender clearance.

The 275/35 is the closest match to the 255/35 in front; but its OD is 14mm larger and I don't know if that is acceptable, especially with AWD: if you're RWD it won't matter and will look cool (although the gap in front will be a bit more than in the rear); fender clearance looks flush.

You've got room to play with in the rear: if you put that tire and wheel on a 45 offset it centers it more, i.e. gives fender clearance that matches the front.

Thanks! I was using a different site, but the one you sent the link for is a bit more comprehensive. My car is AWD, so perhaps 265/35 is the safest route to go.

You know it'd be really great if someone would pin this post since it has a lot of really great data that people keep asking about. Any help here @Kia Stinger ?

Should let them know that they do fit. How close are the spokes to the caliper? Are you running spacers (I assume so from the numbers in parenthesis)? If so that's probably why they said they wouldn't fit.

So I did a test fit of the wheels when I first got them without any spacers and it fit with plenty of space for calipers (probably 8-10mm of clearance). I added 3mm spacers in the front just to have a little bit more clearance with the struts.

Nice, not sure why they'd think those wouldn't fit. Maybe they thought the base of the spokes near the hub would hit. Good to know they fit though!

From a legal point of view I'm limited to increasing/decreasing the diameter of my wheel size by +15/-15mm so I can't run the common 245/35/20 tyre on the front 20x8.5 wheels. Anyone have experience with the below options, particularly the 255/30/20 front option on a RWD car.

Front: 20x8.5+35
  • 235/35/20 (+10mm from stock)
  • 245/30/20 (-8mm from stock)
  • 255/30/20 (-3mm from stock) - any rubbing issues?
  • 245/35/20 (+18mm from stock) - can't use due to being over +15mm
Rear: 20x10+40
  • 275/30/20 (+13mm from stock)
  • 285/25/20 (-10mm from stock)
  • 295/25/20 (-5mm from stock)
  • 285/30/20 (+18mm from stock) - can't use due to being over +15mm
Current thoughts are 245/30/20 or 255/30/20 (if they fit) for the fronts and 275/30/20 for the rears (from a cost perspective), although I have no issues going up to 285/25 or 295/25 (if they fit) if they reduce some of the potential stretch that will occur with the 275s.

*Edit - I forgot about the 93/96 load ratings required. Looks like I'll need to roll with the 245/35/20 and 275/30/20 setup regardless.

Is law enforcement is going to notice 3mm of diameter? Just go with the lower aspect ration I guess. I've seen 255/35r19 fitted to the front without an issue which is the same outside diameter and width of 255/30r20.

I would do 235/35/20 and 275/30/20. These are very low profile tires already. The other options are like rubber bands and your ride is going to suffer dramatically, not to mention the greater increase in damaging your wheels.

They most likely won't but it's coming from a damage/liability perspective if I'm ever involved in a crash or there's an insurance/roadworthy inspection completed. Agreed that the chances are very low but it's still a possibility.

Good to know about the 255/35/19 wheels and thanks for the link to the Google Doc, I was just referencing an older image of the table.

Thanks. I've been running 285/25s on my current car for the last 10 years without any wheel damage (fingers crossed) so I'm quite accustomed to the harsher ride

Figured I'd post on this thread, since it was partly my baby once. The Stinger has stayed with me three years, making it the second most long lived of the cars I've owned. But I get bored easily and it's time to say goodbye. So I did. Moved on to a very clean Porsche 991 S, chrono, PDK, PSAM, the works. Fittingly, with monstrous 20" OZ Ultraleggera HLT rims. Anyhow. So long folks, thanks for all the quality info and interaction. I'll be deactivating soon, say hey if you like.

Thanks

That's pretty close to what @Buklau is running (just scroll up a bit). You shouldn't need spacers but you will be 2mm further outside on the front than his car's setup so you might want to ask him if there's room for 2 extra mm to the fender up front.

By this it looks like you have plenty of clearance in front; and if you used spacers in back you'd poke.
