Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

How many of you have noticed this "bottles only, do not put open drinks here" icon? :D The sun was shining directly on the inside of the door yesterday and I saw it for the first time.

Right after breakfast, when I have to go out, I'm checking that out.

You know that's only there because somebody probably spilled and threatened litigation to Kia lol.

I think it's labeled because the base of the door's bottle holder is angled. It's meant to hold a closed bottle at an angle, while an open container would spill.

I saw something weird this evening. Our local international airport has been undergoing upgrading for years. Apparently the new terminal was completed not long ago. It's probably been at least a year since I've had to go fetch or carry someone to/from the airport. And when I did, the NAV screen showed "me" (green triangle in circle at bottom-center of the screen) merrily making my way "cross country" where there were no roads: because the new roads were under construction and patrons had to enter the terminal via temporary access that "isn't there" as far as the NAV is concerned. But this evening, the entire new terminal was there on the screen and I was following the new roads as if they were already in the database. But, how did the new roads get into the database? I still have NAV version 12.5. (Lest anyone feel to suggest that my phone is doing it: I have a Tracfone, a ZTE flip phone ferpetesakes. It barely functions because it has Bluetooth.)

^^^^^^ I’ll guess the mothership updated the car. Be on guard Merle. Your next!!

I should add a coincidental detail. Twice in the life of my car, the NAV has quit because the car lost contact with the Bluetooth connection to my phone. The second time this happened was yesterday on the way to the airport. While driving, I did what I had done the first time: turned off the phone and turned it back on. Instantly, NAV recognized and connected. Then minutes later, the weirdness with the new airport roads info showed up on the screen.

Two ideas come to mind. I bet your car gps map zoom level is set to auto. The roads around the terminal may be wrongly classified in the map software as a major highway and was zoomed out. The other could be you turned off the auto zoom feature and the map was zoomed out when it showed your cross country drive.

I hate the map zoom on "auto", and manually set the scale. Default is 700 feet. When I'm on the freeway on a road trip or for any length of time out of town, I tend to use .25 mile as a minimum all the way up to the max 3D, which I recall is 4 miles scale. Anyway, I was on 700 feet at the airport; and would have been the last several times over the last two and a half years. I did think of a possible explanation: while following the temporary access roads I wasn't paying any attention to where I wasn't going, only to where I was and was going, therefore did not see the already programmed in new airport terminal roads that I took for the first time Monday. NAV, version 12.5 and earlier, must have already had the long-projected finished project in its database.

Not a car thing, but there's an Android App called Kia Stinger where you can see the car in 3D, interior and exterior and try some colors changes.

With the new map update, the auto scale is now a lot more speed sensitive and zooms in or out based on car speed instead of the road speed limit. There is a setup screen to adjust this also. Either a new feature, I did not read the manual, or I did not play around with the map settings screens when I got the car.

OH! Now I understand what you are asking. Time for some new glasses .
The GT trim does not have Nav as an option to purchase. You need to select the GT1 to get Nav.
I have the nav but find myself using Google maps more often. Since it now shows lane guidance, tells you in advance if you need to make two turns in a short distance, better address search ability, traffic alerts, speed trap alerts, preview upcoming turns while driving, alternate route options while driving, etc-- i am running out of reasons to use Kia nav.

I have not compared the IOs google maps in carplay to the google maps in android auto yet--does it have these features in the Ios version yet? (I saw google maps announced last month that they now support carplay.)

The Kia nav address search is finicky. I find myself searching for the address in the uvo app (which is google powered), save the address in uvo app as a favorite, hook up my phone, press all the buttons to start the uvo app on the car, sync the favorites, select the favorite, then have kia nav map the route. Then I still turn on the google maps or waze for live traffic, road hazards, and speed trap info.

I really thought I would use the kia nav more, but I find google maps on par.

I'm behind on the curve so a couple of things I've noticed over the past week or so:

- Exhaust is getting louder
- 361 HP? You must be joking.

I've just come from a 326HP petrol car which dyno'd at 340 HP / 470NM stock, the power difference isn't subtle in the slightest. Kia under rating would be an understatement (not that it's a bad thing)..

Your exhaust got louder right? I thought it was only me. Even though I have the 2.0T, I noticed that it got louder compared to new.
