Clear cut intake winner?

I just ordered my @Jonnytig intake last night.

After exchanging a few emails I called the shop and spoke to a very nice employee named Tash. She answered all my questions initially via email and later on the phone. I was worried about having to call and order something from out of country but it could not have gone any smoother to this point. I will update when I get the Intake.

This will be my 1st "performance" modification on any car ever, but I don't think it will be my last. Super excited to get the intake!

U r screwed now. Always starts small. $500 intake, 300 spoiler.

The mod bug will increase and drain your wallet.

Spending $1500 on something 6 months ago would be rediculous.

Now, it’s totally ok.

Before you know it, you’ll drop 12k on mods.

Just be prepared.

With that all being said....

It’s a hobby for me to do bolt ons/mods .

Never turned a wrench till I got a mustang (2011 gt)... got away from spending for a few year with a mod-unfriendly vehicle (on purpose).

I knew what I was getting into with the stinger!!

Good luck. Get a second job.

No doubt about it!

I can tell it is going to get ugly for sure. I put new wheels on it. Never done that to a car before either.

I told myself i am starting modifications to save money! My stinger has a lower payment than my previous two vehicles.

My whole life I have started looking at new cars as soon as i had owned one for about a year. Since i purchased the stinger about nine month ago and have been reading about everything you can do to the car I haven't even looked at new cars.

So if i can keep myself semi in control ill be close to breaking even....... This is the story i told my wife last night....

I've never worked on cars at all so I am actually looking at buying some new wrenches so I can actually put on the intake when it comes. I have a mismatched hand me down set.

I can see this becoming an expensive hobby for sure but I am getting a lot of enjoyment out of it!

I don’t wanna go crazy modding my stinger. When I got it I knew I wanted 100hp more then stock but I also wanted it to still be able to drive just as good as stock and quiet if I want. I ended up doing jb4 with fuel wires jun mids and evc and k&n panel filters and I could not be more happy with the setup. I tinted the windows and power coated the wheels black and I think I’m going to stop there. I was going to lower it too but after painting the wheels the ride hight looks fine to me now.

BMS intake FTW!
Been tested at many events with great results.

I started tiny, badge swap and door strike plate covers
I (my wife) decided I should not mod the stinger for a while. For Christmas “she” bought me ssr downpipes. For New Years, I bought AP intakes. My dad bought me LED reflector kit. Car is currently getting XPEL put on and I almost bought magnaflow catback today.

Reflectors and intake go on tomorrow. Had never done more than a tire change on a car till this one, it’s addicting. However I think I’m almost done. FMIC would be fantastic for my dry and hot climate, but that’s it, I promise...

Good to know I’m not alone in wanting to go a little crazy.

My plan at the moment is ssr downpipes.
@Roarbomb was there a noticeable difference in power and exhaust soundwith just the down pipes?

Then June evc exhaust
Then the wagner fmic
And the do the lap3

Just trying to pace myself.

After new wheels/tires and the JT intake in the last 3 weeks my wife
Is starting to get concerned.......

I don’t want her to get concerned enough she starts looking at cc bill!

Sound- my son says the car is louder inside but only when accelerating. It sounds beefier, but zero increase at cruising speeds. Outside it sounds a bit louder but nothing like a catback sounds.

Feel- absolutely, I lost traction in eco (or felt that way) on the first day. Either I’ve gotten used to it or the computer has corrected but it’s calmed down.

I’m VERY happy with them.

@Roarbomb.

That sounds like exactly what I want. I want to get the restrictions out of exhaust but not make it noisy in the cabin.

The only way I’ll ever go a catback is if it’s an evc setup but they are expensive.

Doing just the mid pipes makes the car sound a bit louder and adds some pops when slowing down. I had the jun mid pipes in with oem catback before I got the jun evc

Best of both worlds, I’ve had no issues with it.
I had a Renault RS that actually had a similar ‘fix’ OEM.
On the airbox was a rubber piece you could take out to reveal a perforated area increasing the noise and taking away some restriction. But definately a fail regarding under-hood heat soak since its placement was on upper part of firewall.

I just ordered the AP’s. Thanx for info!

A popular solution in Korea:

20190127_132300.webp

They make holes in the stock airboxes and add some metal plate on the top of it. Inside, they replace the stock filters by a mushroom shaped HKS filter.

I have no clue about the performance gains, but quite a lot of people go that route.

I can’t decide between BMS and AP...

Same here!
I like the look of AP but I don't want to cut and wiggle stuff to get the right fitment.. Can't beat BMS for the install simplicity.

I've had the k&n typhoon and now the BMS.

Typhoon install was a bit more involved, not difficult by any means, but the tubing goes all the way down to the turbos. A true CAI with the heat shield and ruber gasket that fits snug. Sound was a bit more aggressive from the air flow under acceleration and blow off. I did have to trim two of the hoses to make it for and has to use my own c-clamp on another.

BMS install was externally simple. No modifications needed to any of the stock parts. It uses most of your stock tubing. Sound is a little more subtle which I prefer. I don't think this kit does much to block out hear. The shields are not one solid unit, but rather use parts of the stock airbox and a new metal heat shield. The heart shields don't use any rubber gaskets so hot air can easily pass since the intake area.

I kept the BMS to stay consistent to the jb4, it's simple install/removal and the more subtle sound.

How’s the sound of the bms vs stock? I just have k&n panel filters now and might be looking at a intake but I wanna find the quietest one.

Thanks

Definitely louder than stock at startup and acceleration, but nothing obnoxious. I too was looking for something subtle in the sound department
