Dealer Visit - Warranty Voided - Taking mods off the car - Experiences with mods

I was thinking about adding catback exhaust, as my old WRX had that and I like the sound, and maybe adding a K&N filter, and also maybe some aesthetic stuff. I mentioned the catback to my dealer, and he seemed to think that their service department could add that on, and if so, would be covered under warranty since they do the work. I’m going to make some calls and find out.

The labor would be under warranty. The exhaust would not be. Just remember you are changing the exhaust from the Second cat back. Everything in front of that would be under warranty. Very little to worry about here. If you really want the ULTIMATE protection talk to them about getting the Borla Exhaust. They will likely charge your 3x what its worth but then i think they will warranty it if any issues arise.

Dude you will get raped if the dealer Install the catback .... a catback by itself you can install in your garage and it won’t void warranty regardless man your are not removing any cats so you have no worries ... a KN filter lol that’s nothings man you are good... if you get piggyback, tune , down pipes , BOV , turbos , intercooler these are mods you need to be careful off ....

During my time with the car those 2 days the tpms sensors warning light did NOT come on.

For what it's worth, after putting my winter setup on (without TPMS) it took ~2-300 miles / a week for the light to come on. The sensors are extremely slow on the Stinger compared to other platforms.

That’s odd. Took 5 minutes on new wheels/tires/tpms for me

Yeah, I’m not worried about much more performance than what I have from the factory already. Just want a little louder exhaust!

Went in for the recall, added the rubber piece, and got the shift logic tsb. All is fine, intakes/springs/exhaust/junbl secondary delete and all... no questions at Cerritos Kia, outside of Glendale Kia excellent marks from service and overall professionalism. Really busy but when you have that kind of service it’s expected.

Removed the jb4 and really felt the difference, even if I mainly use map1. Weather permitting, that bad boy goes back on pronto! Lol
Almost the same mods as you. JT intakes, Eibach springs, SSR DP secondary delete. Still have OEM exhaust and no PB tune (yet). Going in for the wire harness recall fix next week with no warranty worries. Springs and DP work was done by an unnamed certified KIA Stinger mechanic at a respectable price. Great guy! Took time to show me all his work on my Stinger back in the bay (where customers are not allowed:)). Gave him a Thank you card and a $50 note for Xmas. Think I found my mechanic!

Lucky you found someone good at a dealer service dept.! Did that mechanic have any input as to what KIA or dealers look for/feel about mods? This is my first KIA and I've never had issues with my mods on my old beemer and on my G sedan...Just wondering if this is a KIA thing b/c of the 100k warranty...

We are one of the only dealers around in Florida that do the mods ourselves and keep the warranty in tact. From mild to wild.

Nice. What mods would you do and do warranty work around? I see Intakes and BOVs. What about, Downpipes, Exhausts, ECU Tunes/Piggyback, FMIC etc. etc.

Just about all, BOV's, Downpipes, Exhausts, Piggyback, FMIC....and it all depends on the tune.....Need to make sure it is bullet proof.

Wowzer man! good for you guys. Its really refreshing to see a dealer step into the performance market with our platform. If i was a local you would have my business!

Not worried about the warranty as all my mods mentioned are minor. Intake? ... no moving parts. DPs? ... no CEL, kept the primary cats. My Stinger has no catch cans, no BOVs, no tune. Didn't ask my KIA mechanic about the mods I have concerning the warranty. When I go in next week for an oil change and the harness recall fix, I will get the inside info concerning my mods and possible warranty issues ... granted each dealer and mechanics are light years apart.

Just had mine done today and while I don't have any major mods (just big mouths + K&N drop ins) they didn't mention anything about that but they declined to put in my eibach sway bar's due to not being OEM and wouldn't be able to honor the warranty on them. So I'll just have to get it done at a performance shop.

Wow, My dealer asked if they could put mine in. But they wanted to much to do so and im waiting on my rears to do the springs and swaybars all at once.

As for this it's not that the dealers are trying to rape you it's KIA Canada setting the MSRP and raping the dealers on the cost, the TPMS sensors you see online are most likely coming from Korea (same reason an E badge is $30 from Korea but an NA KIA badge is 80+) MSRP on the sensors (set by KIA Canada themselves not the individual dealership) is $146.54, you could buy the exact same sensor from Genesis for about $100 a few months ago (but have since jumped to $170) and the tpms sets on ebay for $125 is significantly less then the cost of dealers buying 2 sensors from KIA Canada, So it really comes down to KIA Canada being completely out to lunch and raping the dealers and instilling higher MSRPs making the dealers look like the bad guys

I drive a charger with TPMS and don't run sensors in my winters (because i'm cheap they go off all the time anyway) and I'd say more then 50% of the time my light isn't on anyway, so I'm more so positive there wasn't any sensors in the wheels
I was going to agree with you...and still do! :) I just talked to a Kia dealer I know and in the US the TPMS are priced much more fairly. Dealer cost is $35.53 and list is $59.22. Not much need to go aftermarket at those prices.

WOW that is crazy. Not to sway bars.......

Hello Can everyone please share your experiences visiting the dealer with mods...Do you take them off? will the dealer flag your car? I am going in for recall visit...Should i take mods off...Will muffler deletes be an issues... please share all experiences and knowledge, thanks
The only mod that I have completed is adding dual oil catch cans. I received a recall notice (electrical connection) and my dealer inspected it and they said everything is just fine. However I do not want to void my warranty by adding a mod.

I agree you need to be careful dealers ... I personally have my car modded but when I took it in for the recall I removed all mods except the muffler deletes and downpipes ....
