Dealer Visit - Warranty Voided - Taking mods off the car - Experiences with mods

WOW.....that was a lot....I can tell you all that if we do the mods at our dealership your good.

Which dealership? Where?

Presumably if something goes sideways it's only covered in your shop? I.e. if I drop halfway across the country to buy and mod a Kia from your dealership, then later try to get warranty work done locally, I'm SOL unless I return back your dealership?

Disks were resurfaced due to warping, diff fluid was replaced due to sound coming from the diff when making a hard turn at low speeds (there is a TSB for that)
DIFF fluid noise sounds just like C6 Corvette issue, disappears with fluid change.

Humm, wonder if re-badging voids warranty? :)

You would be screwed by your local dealership. They cant control what other dealers do and the policies they follow. Your only luck hope is if your local that dealers that did them mods and I believe there in Florida.

How much for all that carbon fiber?

And, several of us have asked where you are located: and you don't even have that in your profile info, yet.o_O

I believe there located in Florida. They need to update that info. Maybe share a link to their dealer website and contact.

What's your thoughts on putting on engine-related mods (ex: intake, midpipe, downpipe, exhaust, etc.) and the powertrain warranty? How receptive are your local dealerships if you took your Stinger in for service?

I had a conversation with the service guys at my local dealership. They said that if you are able to swap the mod out before taking it in, they don't mind. But for mods that aren't easily swappable (ie: exhaust), they can void the warranty. I thought about going to other dealerships to get their policy to see if it's consistent.

I ask this because when I'm ready to do performance mods, I want to know what I'm getting myself into if something went south. The interesting thing is when I was modding my Honda Prelude years ago, the service guys at the local Honda dealership were more lenient to me on engine-related mods when I took her in. Doubtful if they're as lenient today.

I didn't see a thread on this, so mods, please merge if there's one.

Hi City Kia nice looking wheels on the black Stinger.....could you give me the specifics on the kmc's?

Greater Seattle area folks...along the lines of the posts above, can anyone recommend one dealer over the others? Particularly for not being squeamish about little bolt-ons. The word I hear is that the dealer where I purchased mine is definitely best avoided for service. I'm planning to take the car to a well regarded independent shop for scheduled maintenance, but warranty issues do come up.

From my experience in talking with the service manager at West Hills (Bremerton), they don't have a problem with minor mods. I will say all I have is intakes though, and Bremerton may be a little too far out of your way. When I bought the car I specifically asked about basic mods and they told me as long as a problem doesn't come up that directly links back to one of those mods, they don't mind it.

Actually not too bad, Fauntleroy ferry to Southworth and on to Bremerton would be a nice drive so long as we're just talking scheduled service. That's a top tip, thanks

So I just got back from having my first oil change done at the dealer and I spoke to the service manager about possible mods I wanted to do and what effect it may have on my warranty. The only mods i'm considering are cold air intakes and an exhaust upgrade which he seemed ok with....tune not so much.

My question is what are the potential issues that could arise that can be directly tied back to those 2 mods? I would think intakes and exhaust would be less invasive than regapping my plugs (which he said is a dead giveaway that your piggybacking) and slapping on a Jb4. I don't want to mess with my warranty much but I do want a little extra HP and a sweeter exhaust note.

Dealerships can't even tell the difference between 36psi and 55psi for tyres. I'm absolutely certain they're not going to go and measure spark plug gaps and block warranty because your plugs (a consumable item that comes from factory with varying gaps) are running a more appropriate gap, piggyback or not.

My service manager here in Columbia SC (Galeana Kia) had no issues with my Injen intakes, Borla exhaust and Eibach front and rear roll bars. I went to another Kia dealership in Orangeburg and first, they didn't know what the mods were or what they did and then said it would void the warranty. I think it has a lot to do with the knowledge level at the dealership you go to.

I've also read on here and other places that a dealership cannot void your warranty unless something goes wrong with the car and they can prove that what went wrong was directly caused by a specific mod you made to the car. They can flag your car in the system but that does not void the warranty.

anyone in Canada with some service experience ? did the dealer mentioned anything to you once you picked the car up ?
