Who else has had warped rotors?

"Horrible", how, exactly? Noise and vibration? Or stopping distance compromised?

Great question because there is nothing unsafe about these brakes. An annoying vibration, yes, but unsafe, no. No lack of stopping power. Just some shaking going on.

I have to confess, i have not read every post in this thread so I apologize if this has been asked and answered already.

Has anyone who has bedded in their brakes from new (within the first 1,000 miles) had subsequent issues with vibration? I bedded mine at 500 km's and there was a lot of pad transfer from the pads to the rotors (cloudy grey colour on the rotors).

If anyone is curious as to a Brembo bedding procedure, here is the one that i followed:

Bedding in Brembo Brakes: How To
Bedding in is a complicated process that must be performed correctly. Doing it right does have incredible results though, so it’s pretty vital to follow the procedure closely.
  1. Reach 80km/h and feather your brakes a couple of times to raise their temperature – we don’t want to shock the rotors and pads.
  2. From 80km/h, make 8-10 hard near-stops in a row. It’s important to note that you never fully stop. You’re just firmly and quickly reducing your speed without grinding to a halt. At the end of each brake, quickly resume your 80km/h pace.
  3. After the last near-stop, come back up to speed and cruise for 15 minutes, using the brakes as rarely as possible to let them cool.
Seeing the Results
After, if performed correctly, there will be a blue tint and a grey film on each rotor face. The blue means the rotor has got to the break-in temperature, the grey is evidence the pad material has transferred to the surface of the rotor face. If you have that, you’re on to a winner! It’s now time live your life as the owner of fully-bedded Brembos.
Rotors are already bedded from factory on a new car.
Only need to bed rotors if you got a replacement and even then the service techs should do that for you

Main safety issue becomes Steering. if it gets real bad the steering wheel vibrates and shakes left right left right real fast when braking at high speeds. Even with light braking to reduce speed slowly. Yes you can just hold on tight with a death grip and maneuver car direction fine but you lose all feel - connection of control with the steering wheel acting like a Hitachi vibrator

And you trust this took place or was done to spec? There was a lot of pad transfer on mine when I bedded them which leads me to believe that no bedding procedure was completed from factory.

I'm just curious if anyone who has bedded their pads following a similar procedure to the above has since had vibration?

That sounds like something you would have no trouble duplicating for warranty service. Just let the dealer rep go out and do some stiff braking.

Yes. I did embed my pads and still have hot spots on all four rotors causing minor vibration. Replacement rotors are in back order. I'm hoping because Kia is making a change.

Good to know. Thanks. Hopefully Kia will have this sorted soon.

I drive a lot on the highway at speeds around 80+ mphs. When I brake hard the vibration is quite a lot, tends to make me not want to press the brake, so I try to brake earlier to avoid braking normally. I do feel that the braking is performing worse, but if I slam the brake I am sure it would hold though.

I've verified that the rotors are NOT brembo products. Only the calipers and pads....

sorry

Makes sense.

True, but the excessive shaking tends to make you not want to brake as usual to avoid the vibration.

Yes, I did the first time and they decided to turn the rotors and because they lack the experience that you are not suppose to turn a warped rotor the problem has returned after a few thousand miles and way worse than before, even though I did the break-in procedure. I will definitely show them the problem again during my next service and I know they will either turn the rotors again or replace them, but honestly why do it if it will just happen again since the rotor is not revised.

I am looking at upgrading to a 380mm 6p in the front and 370mm 4p in the rear. I am just waiting on my dealer if he can hopefully make a kit for the Stinger.

keep us posted with the bbk upgrade @STINGER

Was experiencing shaking when braking at highway speeds anything over 80km/h. Took it in to KIA today and they ordered new rotors should have them changed on Thursday. Car is at 12,000 km

I noticed on a long highway trip recently that the brakes were grabby while SCC was making subtle speed reductions. I'll have to try it a few more times to see if it's a recurring problem, or if it was possibly just some environmental condition during that trip.

That's a different issue. More info on that can be found in a thread called "cruise control surging" or some variation of that.

No known fix for it .

Finally got the rotors replaced. KIA said that the rotors were faulty and the measurements were off.
What "measurements"? That doesn't really explain anything.

The invoice they gave me, stated "measurements were off - Faulty Rotors", they didn't really have any answers. Couldn't tell me how it happened, so they just replaced them.

Mysterious! Thanks for showing the receipt.

Nice looking but pricey. Just want something better than stock but I'm not racing the car so don't need a floating design or that price.
