I am not aware of anyone who has done that but it is definitely my goal. 12.12 is the closest I have come to 11s with stock exhaust and stock intake box.
Thanks that is my goal as well. Keep a nice quiet car that runs 11s

Stock exhaust and intakes are huge restrictions on our car. Trying to push the car that hard without free flowing intake & exhaust is like pushing a watermelon through a tiny straw…

I had a JB4 on Map 2 with straight 93 Octane gas. VT snorkels and the AEM drop in panel filters were my only other performance mods. Stock sized wheels, stock exhaust, and stock intake box.

Sometimes less is actually more. However, a negative DA on a prepped track does help a lot.

The stock snorkel is the restriction on the intake side. Once you eliminate that restriction it opens up the intake nicely.

There are gains to be had in modifying the exhaust. However, you don’t have to remove CATs to be really fast. Some of the fastest Stingers have minimal exhaust changes.
Yes the snorkel is part of the problem, but the tiny 1”x 2” inlet into the air box is very restrictive. K&N said there are no power gains with their drop in filters, but theres tons of proof showing 15-25whp gains and dropping 0.1-0.2sec off 0-60 & 1/4m times with just open air intakes. Intakes are one of the best bang for the buck mods you can get for our Stingers.

Agreed, some of the quickest Stingers still have cats but most of those gains are from quicker turbo spooling and are lower in the power curve so doesn’t help much for peak HP. However our mufflers are very restrictive too so removing them adds another 10-15whp.

Another words, you can easily add 30-40whp by just letting our engine breath better.:thumbup:

Those are pretty good results, but no doubt you’d be in the 3s 0-60 and 11s 1/4m if you simply added real intakes and catback/muffler delete. Hard to pass up those performance gains when you can easily do them for only $300 total like I and several others did.:)

I honestly don’t think that is true. I have looked through dozens of logs of people who have truly open air intakes. The one common characteristic I am seeing is that their IATs decrease very little if at all throughout 1/4 mile pulls if they don’t have WMI.

My IATs always decrease through the 1/4 mile and especially once the car builds speed. Now, they don’t decrease like the 20+ degrees I have seen other people get from WMI but I do get 8-10 degrees consistently.

Now this isn’t to say that the stock air box with aftermarket snorkels is better than any or all open air intakes. It is just saying that I seriously doubt switching to something like the Injen intakes is going to improve my times at all. I seriously doubt that it will improve them with most of the aftermarket intakes.

The AEM intakes are good. Perhaps those are better. Perhaps they are the same. No chance any open air intake is giving me .1+ seconds over what I have now. What I have now isn’t perfect but it works way better than most people realize.

As far as the exhaust goes. Yes if I changed my exhaust from stock it would show improvement. However, there are a lot of people that don’t want the modified sound. That is what I am going for. My whole family daily drives my car so it just can’t sound different and be useful for me.

I want to see how fast it can go without changing the stock sound. I understand plenty of other people don’t want that at all.

To each his own.

I think you’re missing the point, and there’s so much proof of open air intakes increasing HP & decreasing 0-60 & 1/4m times it’s indisputable at this point.

And slightly higher IAT isn’t going to offset the huge increase in airflow compared to the very restrictive OEM airbox. It was designed for quietness not performance. Multiple people have tested it and there’s no doubt that using real intakes will drop your times 0.1-0.2 minimum. You can choose not to believe it if you want, but I’m simply stating the facts.

However, if your priority is quietness vs performance then I understand that opinion. No doubt intakes and muffler deletes change the Stinger from Prius like quiet, to the performance car it was intended to be, but to each their own as you said.

Just know that my wife and 2yr old boy both love the improved sound those mods added to our Stinger, so don’t knock it before you try it.;):thumbup:

Naa, 579 was this guy 2014 Porsche 911 turbo. $180000 car when New. I hung with him to about half track and then he walked me. Raced him 3x. He missed a shift 2nd run and I beat him. 3rd run was elimination he broke out and I moved on. 20210728_183654.webp
