Sunset Yellow Discussion

The nice thing about it is that I can get parts at Pep Boys - LOL.

We will see what happens though, I am presently waiting on a call from Kia..... Who knows what riches lay in store for me next from them?

LOL - quoting myself, hilarious.

The punchline is this: I cannot just leave the car and tell Kia to stick it. I have to have the vehicle in my possession in order to move forward with any other option.

The main part of the set up of the joke is that they did not paint the plastic bits at all... Mind you, I was told they were going to under warranty and handle the rest under the TSB.

In other words - they lied and they suck.

I am going to collect my car, drive it quite quickly down the highway and go road tripping. Since I am a working stiff, cannot collect the car until later, and no one of any consequence will be working when I do finally get it, I will need to wait until Monday to find the appropriate soul to bitch to.

Gotta love this. This does lead me to the existential question, I wonder how much I can get on a trade for the thing? Would any loss there be more than the hassle of waiting for Kia to (try to) get their act together? Hmmm......

I considered a stop by carmax to see what they would say...figured with the taxes and clear bra and tint however, i wouldnt come out ahead.

My suggestion would be to start the buyback process and begin getting the required docs together.

Just got a call from my Kia dealer, he says Kia will not paint my bumper or rear tailgate despite obvious paint chipping. This service rep has been a pia since day 1, always claiming damage was my fault. I'm calling Kia HQ in a few minutes after dropping off my daughter at work, don't want her to hear from yelling and possible 4 letter words flowing out of my mouth... Won't be dealing with the local Kia service rep.

WTF...so sorry to hear this. Not sure how the can deny with paint chips in those areas.

KIA said they would not reimburse the $2k I spent with on painting the decklid, tailgate, front/rear bumpers and rockers. This goes against what I've heard first hand, elsewhere, and initially KIA gave me the impression they would be paying for it. Anyone else have experience with this, or have had KIA reimburse them? If so I would be interested to hear about it. Otherwise, I would consider the buy back, not my preferred choice. I'm extremely disappointed with the end result as I'm around $7k in on parts & paint for my car atm.

Got the call today to come back and recheck the yellow stinger. Second inspector came out. I think body shop was so embarrassed they painted the unmatched parts on their own while I was explaining to Kia that we didn’t want a total repaint... all we wanted was to walk up to a car that looked like it was the one color.
Will update tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
I would like the yellow one back because the warranty paint work they did on my red one is now bubbling so that one needs to go back in for redo #3....

Clarification- The Red paint warranty work was done at a different Kia dealership. The Kia dealership doing the yellow has been simply outstanding.

All I can say is WOW!

I never should have even started the repaint process. The geniuses at my body shop strike again! I made a simple request, "please don't re-badge the car when you're done painting it"

They then said, "nope, Kia demands that we put the badges on it"

I then said, "well, I really want black badges, can you do that?" to which they replied, "sure, if you pay us".

We dickered around on a price, settled on it, so I bought the badges. The badges have been painted.

NOW - the same folks who painted the car the wrong primer color in the first place, and caused me to be without my car for an additional MONTH are telling me that they cannot put the new badges (that they painted) onto the car because (I LOVE this part) - THEY MIGHT RUIN THE PAINT TAKING THE OLD ONES OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wait, wha?

I swear to all that is held holy I will refuse this freaking car today! What the unbelievable f__k is happening here?

I cannot get my car inspected because KIA sent all its folks to a convention - so well screw you if you need help - and now THIS?

NOPE! Not happening, not a chance.

</rant>

I am sending this and any other post I make to my case manager at KIA. I want them to know this is dumb/stupid/asinine. It is specifically because of folks like this why I went out of my way to purchase my car in NC. Trouble is, even my sales guy has had enough and he has moved on from Kia.

Perhaps I should too.

(And don't tell me to calm down - screw that!! It is NOT happening to you)

Wow, must just be the dealership. I called mine, who are doing the repaint, and I asked them not to put the badges on. Response was: “oh, do you want to put the KDM badges on? Awesome! Want us to order them?”... I said no, I’ll bring them when the car is ready to go after repaint and they said no prob, we’ll put them on for you...

It’s amazing how different dealerships can be!

All I can say is, never buy a Kia in South Florida and if you have one, pray that you never need service here.

We just picked up the yellow from Kia’s body shop after rejecting it originally.
It looks amazing thanks to the shop painting parts they were not technically allowed to in order to make the car look a uniform color. Essentially the tail light housing. Kia came out and reimspected and approved. Apparently it was quite an animated event between the body shop manager and the Kia reps.
Nothing but good things to say about that shop.
There are 2 more yellows being painted there. We are in contact with one of the owners and we will see how his turns out. Ours was the first and they apparently learned some good lessons on our car. The paint they used is guaranteed for life so I am happy with that it is a deeper yellow as well.
Kia stipulated using a yellow primer which apparently is an inferior product so our shop used the better primer. Shop manager said the original paint was so thin there was about 7 shades across the cars original paint.
Rocker panels weren’t repainted so if you are looking hard enough you can notice the difference. If it bugs me enough I will get them repainted on my own.
Now on to fixing the bubbling red paint

Where is this place?

It is worth the 3 hour ride across the state to go find someone who knows what they're doing.

Fuccillo Kia body shop Westley Chapel Florida.

Fuccillo Kia , Wesley Chapel did the work.
They have their own shop.

I called Fuccillo and spoke to the shop manager.

Awesome guy, another reason I should have moved to the West coast of Florida. I will send him pictures and see what shakes out. @Dmchristie1 thank you very much for the information.

Did you feel like your car is now the color of mustard now? That's what I think now when I look at my paint. The original color was much lighter.

I spoke to a body shop manager over at Fuccillo Kia in Tampa and he explained to me why that is. It has to do a lot with the number of coats.

My personal take away was (not in any way a representation of what he said at all - Kia people) there is the Kia way of painting the car and the correct way of painting the car.

Yours might have been painted the Kia way.

I've heard the paint is paper thin. We also leased a 2018 Optima EX, snow white pearl (pretty color, looks great on the Stinger too!) and was waxing it the other day. When I got to the side of the rear bumper, I thought it was dirty but it was just very thin paint and you could see the black plastic coming through. Looked fine when standing next to the car but when up real close you can see it. What a crappy thin paint job.

As for my Stinger, I stopped by RK Kia to speak with them about painting my front bumper during the yellow repaint. They saw my issues (chip by both headlights and thin paint around brake cooling inlet) and said they would speak to the Kia rep. About an hour later I got the call with my 2nd rejection. Don't know why some have been approved for bumper repaint but mine not approved. Waiting for the call back from Kia to give it a 3rd try. Think I'm out of luck. I asked for an estimate to paint the front bumper and rear tailgate, will see how bad of cost that will be.....

Take pictures yourself and submit them to your case online, then call your case handler. The hell with a dealer doing it, they can say whatever they want when they call Kia.

Mine hasn't been repainted and my rockers are a different shade than the rest of the car. When they said they wouldn't repaint the plastic, I just went straight for the buyback.
