Stinger Brake Pads Replacement

so I do have the new pads after all. the clunk is minor. I have to be listening out for it, or feel it in the steering wheel. I'll live with it. the compound is great, bites harder than stock, and other than that clunk they are completely silent.

I wonder if these would help?

I dont think it’s a matter of shims. It’s a matter of the pad itself being too small and thus able to rock back and forth in the caliper.

Stinger front brake pad size is the very standard "1001" generic pad size.

I am running the generic 1001 pads (Centric PN 105.10010) [without the weights] and they fit perfectly with no forward/reverse clunk.

I am curious what dimmensions powerstop used for their undersized clunking pads (Powerstop PN Z26-6012) Anyone care to measure?

When I measured my OEM pads in 2019 I measured 131.65mm (5.183")
Actual spec is 131.80mm (5.188") The 0.005" difference could easily be that I wasn't being laboratory meticulous at the time.

How far undersized are the powerstop pads to be able to make the clunk!

Makes sense, the OEM pads were rated FG for friction coefficient

The Powerstop Z26 are GG

With the noted z26 issues what are some other good suggestions? I'm needing front and rear pads.

To be clear, it's not really an operational/performance issue. Car parts are made within tolerances, and sometimes third party parts aren't a perfect fit but function 100% fine. I wouldn't dissuade anyone from buying the Z26 pads for the extremely minor noise they only make first time used in a given direction. I honestly rarely notice mine making any noise, even though they probably still make some amount of noise each time I set off in my car.

Last time I looked, if you could even get them, comparable performing pads were almost twice the price so really, really not worth skipping the Z26 pads for this negligible noise reason alone.

So did I
Such a basic answer to half of my question.

So I called Pedro and he answered right away - He said - "newer than 04/2021 will be the redesigned pads"

I really wish customer service people could answer a 2 part question without needing a follow up call.

The date on my box is 2021-05-10, supposedly the fixed pads. The clunk isn't loud, I can only imagine how bad they were before being '65%' better.

Centric Posi Quiets
DFC 5000
EBC Reds
Hawk 5.0

So whats the verdict? Looking at powerstops for rear and front but with the clunk on some users reporting, is it still worth it?

I still like mine.

as do I. the pedal feel is great. I'm not pulling them out, and a brake pad swap on this car is so easy it's ridiculous. I hear the clunk maybe 1 in 5.

Are Powerstop branded pads the only ones that exhibit this "clunk" due to poor undersized fitment?

My generic (non stinger specific) Centric pads pit perfectly, with no clunk (PN 105-10010)

Yup.

Bosch BC1001 (Rock Auto price is under 30.00)
Akebono ASP1001

for some quality replacements that don't cost a small fortune.

Since there are so many readily available 1001 size pads that fit correctly - I would recommend that nobody buy the clunking power stops UNLESS they have some amazing compound.
I think they "Powerstop Z26" are just run of the mill standard street pads, so my recommendation would be - avoid the clunky pads and get literally anything else.

Thoughts of stop tech pads?

Can’t complain about the performance. Ran my car at Sebring in Florida, no problems, great compound. But yes, will be another brand next time around.

Have you used the Z26?
