so I do have the new pads after all. the clunk is minor. I have to be listening out for it, or feel it in the steering wheel. I'll live with it. the compound is great, bites harder than stock, and other than that clunk they are completely silent.
Stinger front brake pad size is the very standard "1001" generic pad size.
I am running the generic 1001 pads (Centric PN 105.10010) [without the weights] and they fit perfectly with no forward/reverse clunk.
I am curious what dimmensions powerstop used for their undersized clunking pads (Powerstop PN Z26-6012) Anyone care to measure?
When I measured my OEM pads in 2019 I measured 131.65mm (5.183")
Actual spec is 131.80mm (5.188") The 0.005" difference could easily be that I wasn't being laboratory meticulous at the time.
How far undersized are the powerstop pads to be able to make the clunk!
Hey all, with 8k miles on the odometer, my GT is already starting to develop the vibration under heavy braking, so will be replacing the stock brake pads. Car is a daily driver with some spirited driving, no track usage. I am looking for something that has a little more bite than stock that is...
To be clear, it's not really an operational/performance issue. Car parts are made within tolerances, and sometimes third party parts aren't a perfect fit but function 100% fine. I wouldn't dissuade anyone from buying the Z26 pads for the extremely minor noise they only make first time used in a given direction. I honestly rarely notice mine making any noise, even though they probably still make some amount of noise each time I set off in my car.
Last time I looked, if you could even get them, comparable performing pads were almost twice the price so really, really not worth skipping the Z26 pads for this negligible noise reason alone.
as do I. the pedal feel is great. I'm not pulling them out, and a brake pad swap on this car is so easy it's ridiculous. I hear the clunk maybe 1 in 5.

Since there are so many readily available 1001 size pads that fit correctly - I would recommend that nobody buy the clunking power stops UNLESS they have some amazing compound.
I think they "Powerstop Z26" are just run of the mill standard street pads, so my recommendation would be - avoid the clunky pads and get literally anything else.
