STILLEN Performance Intake - Ready for Purchase - Video included

It's not the bypass valve itself that is the issue, it's the location of the welded nipple on the elbow that is the issue. The nipple points a bit forwards towards the coolant reservoir instead of across towards the bypass valve. It potentially makes the hose between the drivers side elbow and the BOV kink and not seal that great without a worm gear clamp.

I'm personally wondering how they tightened everything down on the drivers side without having the filter pop off the elbow. I can't wait till the movie comes out!

I just installed mine. The install took about 2.5 hours by myself. I found it easier to install the silicone and filters in the car first and install the metal pipes last, as @WildBill detailed.

I agree there are some oddities. All the things everyone mentioned make the whole thing add up to not feeling very well engineered. I might be being kind because I’ve always trusted STILLEN parts. If I had tried installing when it came out I likely would’ve been disappointed, but my body shop had some part and paint issues so I just got the car back yesterday. I’m curious to see the install video when it comes out.

@WildBill thank you so much for the flange idea. I can’t see how I would’ve gotten the drivers side to stay together otherwise. I probably would’ve come up with some sort of complicated and/or dumb solution if it wasn’t for you.

I didn’t test drive since it’s pouring rain but I wasn’t looking to feel any difference. I wanted an intake to go along with the JB4 I hope to install this weekend along with plugs.

Glad I could help. That's what these forums are for.
Make sure to post your opinions of the intakes and then the intakes with the JB4.
Sounds like your going to have a beast on your hands come Monday!

I don't think there's any real performance increase from general day to day driving.

Maybe a difference if racing but I feel nothing on the road.

did stillen put the video up yet? i was really set on stillen but lost patience after the endless waiting and went with simple and easy tork intakes. im pretty glad i did seeing at the pretty major fitment issues w stillen's first batch - you guys definitely should not have to modify what they send you to make it fit especially for the price... and good going for the solution you guys came up with. i'd be pulling out my hair if i worked for 2 hours then one side didn't fit
hope it gets resolved and they make it right.

It was probably too long to upload to YouTube. :D:rofl:

I'm sure they'll get their "short" video edited down enough to upload any day now...

...or in the next 2 weeks.

#handswashed

I'm sure they'll get that video up in "about two weeks" too!

For those of you that installed it, how easy will it be to service the filters in the future?

Pretty easy. I swapped my stock intakes back in (for a service interval, they are back in now), and it only took an hour. So maybe 30 - 45 minutes.

How much of the intake do you have to take apart to get the filters off to clean?

Basically everything but the clamps from the turbo intake to the boot and the boot to the metal elbows. But once you have those at the right depth/alignment, installing those a second time is a breeze even if you take the whole intake out.

Have Stillen released any new installation information with the revised intakes? Video posted or are modified instructions being sent with the intakes?

No.

It's been a month since their install video was allegedly filmed. They haven't posted here since two days after.

They made their money and moved on.

I'm kinda surprised they never posted anything. Had high hopes as I'm sure many of us did on the intake. Shame. I was going to buy their intake and exhaust but this awol/Mia from stillen does not look good at all. For the guys who modified the stillen intake to work, has stillen reached out to you guys at all about fitment improvements or new parts?

They didn't get any of my money... thankfully I was able to return it.

From a Stillen rep on the facebook group:

"We've redesigned the offending tube and after having sold dozens of the original, we only had one other person with fitment issues. Our Stillen intake is 100% good-to-go! PM for a discount!"

Are they saying only one person had fitment issues from the original "dozens sold" or one from the redesigned intakes?

Seems like they're lying to their FB customers.

Just called they confirmed only two people had problems and they did minor changes but not necessary. Also they told me look at the video on YouTube I was like what video?? O we are going to post it today or tomorrow. Also I had questions on installment they directed me to the k8 store. How is it that another would know more then a manufacture. I guess I’m waiting for agency power.

All I can do is let out a sigh and roll my eyes.

Stillen is a joke.

Super lame they never released the video after all this time still. I've been waiting since they said they made a video and it's been more than 2 weeks heh. For people wanting to buy but concerned cos fitment issues they really aren't instillen heh much confidence
Ok done being comedien but come on stillen show us the video so people can make an informed decision and also see how to install
