STILLEN Performance Intake - Ready for Purchase - Video included

That's your take, but it fits my needs and it takes 5 minutes.
No big deal to me. If I wasn't 100% confident in the solution I wouldn't feel that way.

Though I agree that Stillen should change their design and send out a new elbow to all that have bought the first gen kit.
They should not leave their kit like it is now.
Good For you I got DYI intakes for 70 bucks and install was less than 30 minutes and guess what NO FITMENT ISSUES ....I dont see the logic of spending all that money for the fitment not to be perfect....Sometimes patience is a virtue...it is such a new car let new companies get into the mix and not only will price go down quality will go up....

Just checking in here again
I am the one that posted on IG and Facebook for the test car

I am unable to use my stinger as I am still doing testing for Agency Power
However STILLEN has reached out and want to look into the issues further based on my recommendation

They are currently down on staff which is why I am trying to fill the gap and be the mediator
I want the Stinger market to have the best possible parts available which is why I/we (KHAR) are trying to help out to this degree

I truly appreciate all your patience thus far

So what’s the deal for us who have the intake and haven’t installed it yet? Should we wait for a fix or just return it?

@sym & @Jonathan & @Kamauxx Did any of you rotate the radiator hose down (counter clockwise when looking at it from the front) to add clearance. Seams like that could work.

I did try to rotate the hose, but I tried hard enough without it moving to make me nervous so I gave up. I was able to get the clearance I wanted with the washers instead.

I have about 600 miles on these intakes now, and I just checked everything. Driver side filter is still seated firmly, no marks on the radiator hose near the elbow clamp. The only marks I see on the hose are from where I slid the tube clamp down to when I tried to rotate the hose :)

I'm going to be taking these off soon for the 6000 mile service, hopefully it's faster to put them on a second time.

Thanks for the input, good to know. My only question is why take the intake off for a service? o_O
There should be no issue with having them on the car.

Is this true? Has anyone taken these in for service with intakes on yet?

The 100K powertrain warranty is one of the big selling points of the car, and to have any expensive repair claims rejected on the basis that the intakes added power (which impacts the entire engine / transmission / drivetrain) would be really unfortunate. I'm just trying to make sure it doesn't screw me over down the line.

That's not how warranties work. The minimal added power is negligible... They have to prove an aftermarket part contributed to a failure.

I guess I'd rather not give them any excuse. But this argument does appeal to my lazy side. If anyone does have any experience with intakes and Kia service departments I'd appreciate any input.

I went to a shop to get a quote on install for the intake, got the quote, and then he said, “you know this will void your warranty? I wouldn’t install it and put your 100k mike warranty at risk.” I mentioned the magnusson act and his response was basically good luck with that. He told me one story of someone with a ford that had an intake that ford blamed for causing some sort of failure and voided that portion of the warranty. Freaked me out a bit lol

Check this link out: Auto Warranties & Routine Maintenance

So if your warranty claim is denied just threaten to file a complaint with the feds and your state AG. That should get the ball rolling.

And if you have to go to court, the Magnusson-Moss Act indicates that if you prevail, the warrantor covers your attorney fees and costs.

Personally, I would either have someone install it, or if you are mechanically inclined install yourself
Ive been emailing customers as they get their intake in and most people have installed it with just little more elbow grease than originally anticipated but (not to discredit any of the concerns because there are some things that STILLEN is going to address) but it does work and function

But if you are genuinely worried about it we can due a return for you
If you wish to wait for STILLENs fix thats okay too
Just let us know which route to take for you

Any idea what the fix is?

They can't void the warranty, but if you don't have a good relationship with your dealer/service advisor, I would error on the side of caution. The worst they can do is denied a warranty repair down the road. However, this would present a major inconvenience to have to fight it with corporate or even in court. I would have a candid converalsation with your service advisor since he/she will determine to file any future work under warranty or not initially.

We just finished filming an updated installation video today. We'll be releasing it the second it's edited.

How long is the raw footage?

I will have mine this week and will give my review after the install.

My VP requested that I post this up in response to the installation issues that people are having. Also if we pay attention we will find the answer to the question about the length of the raw footage of the new installation video:

1) The relationship of the intake tube to the radiator hose. This is a very tight fit. During the installation of the intake today I did notice that the intake could come in very light contact with the radiator hose. However, I do not see this as being an issue long term. I did not notice that there was any load or stress put on either part. During the installation I actually did check this clearance and confirmed that the band clamp could spin freely without any additional drag which tells me that there was little to no load on it.

2) The by-pass valve port is in an area that needs to be relocated. There is no good explanation for this and is something that will be rectified going forward. By adjusting the hose as we suggest, the by-pass valve hose can be properly connected without any interference. However, we will make this change going forward.

3) One customer mentioned needing to trim the airbox on the passenger side and stated that the air filter bracket was too long. I did not notice this during the installation. Using production pieces these parts went together without any interference issues.

It is a tight fit in this engine bay with limited space. However, I did not experience any issues with the installation of the kit today. With filming and stopping to make notes for our video I was able to complete the installation in one hour and five minutes. I did pay attention to the tolerances between the intake and the drivers side radiator hose and I did not notice anything that was of concern to me.

We are working on this video which will be released as soon as possible to assist everyone with the installation process.

Thank you,

Kyle

The by pass valve issue, how will that be rectified. Will customers who have the intake receive a new by-pass valve?
