SSR Performance down pipes sound

Thanks for the clarification. I'm not a fan of increased noise, but like the additional performance promised by the SSR downpipes/secondary cat delete.

I'm going the route of the down/mid pipes only, and keeping the stock exhaust back to the tips. I'm willing to trade off a small increase in noise (and I'm hoping it will be minimal) in favor of a considerable power boost. It seems that the gain in the down/mid pipe is the best way to achieve that.

That was my choice, same as you. I expected a deeper sound like the SSR video, but not, it was minimal (my "dynohear") if anything...so, 30% disappointed. The power boost that you mentioned is there, definitely.....

Sounds like just what I was looking for - sweet! Thanks for the feedback!

Santa ordered me some the other day, and they said in stock. Today, however, the website says 3-4 weeks wait time.

Does deleting the secondary cats cause trouble with the KIA dealership? I know that just a catback is nothing to them and they won't bother to see it in the shop (no warranty issues for the rest of the car). Is it the same for a downpipe that deletes the secondary cats? Anyone ever asked the question to them or have bring their cars in with this mod at the dealership?

Well, seeing as my dealer installed my downpipes for me, I am guessing they don't have a problem with them. There are no 02 sensors being removed, so it still passes emissions testing....

Cat back exhaust paired with these midpipes should be nice.

To the person who said catback included this section, that isn't correct. They start at the x pipe and back.

True. On the Stinger. On my Audi the Stasis cat back I had went all the way to the primary downpipes and replaced the central resonator.

That was my point about this still being “cat back”.

You have a very cool dealer, this has to be rare and risky . Just ordered mine. Some vendors want to hide the legality of their products. SSR makes it nice and clear.

Spoke with my service manager before taking possession of the vehicle. He said as long as the primary cat and O2 sensor stay in place and the car doesn’t throw a code, then he would be cool with it should I need any warranty work done.

Good stuff, Arnie - hope it turns out as you expected, and you get both the sound and performance you are looking for. Be sure to let us know once you have them installed ...

It's looking like both the dp and mp deliver on hp as advertised on a stock car but do very little on a tuned car. The end of the old 1/4 mile locked thread Michael Locke shared before and after dp dynos with and without tune. (May have to see fb for all the dynos). Dp made 3 hp and 15 foot lbs. Spool is probably faster. My before and after 0-60 dragy tests where the same with and without my SSR mid, tested on the same day. Only other mod that had no gains was my 3 inch cold side IC pipe. Since most people are tuned these are low return mods unfortunately.
Catback did 10 hp tuned which is more than dp and mp combined, but still not much.

Thanks Tonkabob, do you know what the Awd Stinger gt Dyno s at the wheels when still stock ???

It can vary a bit dyno to dyno. Torks dyno jet is rwd so he disconnects the front driveshaft and pulls a fuse. A stock RWD and an AWD both hit 343 and mine with Ark cat back and k&n drop in was 353 all on the Tork dyno. So i assume mine was also about 343 stock and the k&n was 0hp.
Most stock dyno jets i've seen have been 325-345 range.

Tonka bob,,The Dyno Com AWD Dyno here , second run 337hp ,and final 3 run only showed 320hp but the torque was up at 552lb FTs with muffler delete and cold air intakes ,, I am wondering if my Octane level was still a bit to low. But next time I get my AWD stinger on the Dyno I will make sure I am running min of 98 Octane for sure ! Gee I hope the numbers go up a bit more ! :( THx Arnie

Yeah sounds like the ecu pulled power back a bit. At the track last year i was running 12.4, 12.5s then last 2 runs 12.7s. I think mine did the same thing.
Also CAI power typically won't show for 5 or so pulls.

My service advisor said aftermarket midpipe will not void engine/powertrain warranty. It only void the warranty on the exhaust system.

Again, having the midpipes alone will not void the exhaust warranty. The non factory part must be proven to cause some failure. Now, let's think about this further. There is nothing but empty exhaust piping after them. Seriously, what harm could the new midpipes cause? Wait, yells Kia, your emission system failed because there wasn't enough restriction on exhaust gas exodus. ROFLOL
