Spark Plugs

I put after market plugs in at 4000 miles just checked at 10500 and they look good .22 gap dens with lots of boost put to them. Stock plugs at 4000 looked alittle used up with extra power

No chip

How many miles on plugs

Try some denso plugs. They have worked great for me and I beat this car to death on the street. On third set of rear tires at 10000 miles know problems. Did you go up in temp on plugs when you changed tjem

17000 miles. Yes JB4. Update: it was just plug four, not even cracked. The coil is burned. Kia engineers recommended replacing all the plugs and coils.

Ya you have close set up to me. Just change the plugs and the one bad coil and ride on. I know they had some bad coils in the supply chain at one time.you been hitting that map 7 or what lol. I run map 3 in Florida on 93 all the time know problems yet with denso plugs. Map 5 twice with boostane. Know problems

Going to have them replace the plug and the coil and cross my fingers. I am on map 2, 93 here in Colorado. Ran map 33 with boostane earlier this week, I guess it could have been just enough... who knows. I think they are going to sort something out for me. We shall see.

So I just got my JB4 this week and HKS M45iL plugs for my 3.3. To be clear, gapping should be .022-024? Not sure what map I'll run in for daily driving. Can you run map0 with HKS gapped that small?

You are correct on the gap.
You can run map2 for daily driving. Lots of reported members doing so without issue.
Yes you can run map 0 with the HKS gapped to those specs, with no problem.

HELP! I installed my properly gapped HKS spark plugs and then my JB4...I have now lost ALL BOOST and am getting an engine code. Despite updating the firmware, I get this super strange firmware date of 21/10//5???? Engine seems to be running fine but turbos providing no boost whatsoever.

That is not a strange firmware, you are using v10 of the JB4 firmware, which is the latest version.

P0238 is a MAP sensor fault code, which coincidentally is connected to the JB4.

1) Check all wiring for the JB4, ensure it is thoroughly clipped in.
2) Check all vacuum lines, especially those removed while replacing the spark plugs.
3) Clear the code, see if the issue is resolved.
4) If unresolved, load map 0, clear the code, remove the JB4 from the equation, see if the issue is resolved.

All the wiring is fine and double checked. I checked the lines I took off and they're all fine as well.

For some reason the JB4 won't let me clear the code. Meaning, even when I hit delete all codes, the code still comes right back up instantly. I eventually unplugged the JB4 and reverted to stock...Boost came right back. However, the check engine line is still on. Could it be a bad JB4? Really not sure what's going on here.

How are you trying to clear the code?

You can’t clear the code with the car running. Needs to be in accessory mode.

Also, if the code pops right back up instantly that typically is a sign that the issue isn’t resolved and most likely isn’t a JB4 issue.

Sorry I didn't realize I could clear the code with the car running. I reinstalled and was able to clear the code.

Even with re-installation I still have no boost on maps 1 and 2 and even map 0 no boost. And then without failr, once I removed it, again, boost came right back. Has to be a bad JB4...

Never heard of this before. I don’t know if there’s a revert to factory settings on the JB4 but I’d try that and possibly re-flashing the latest firmware before reaching out to Terry.

Might just uninstall? I just got mine yesterday so hope that a ‘bad run’ did not occur!?

Did you find a resolution to this? I'm looking to pick up a JB4 soon, but this new issue is giving me pause.

@Terry@BMS, have you seen this before?

We ship 100+ Kia tuners a month. No known issues.

As to the posters individual tech support I'm not really in the loop. I imagine any first time install issue issue from 2 weeks ago has already been resolved though? If not let me know and we'll get it sorted!
