Navigation Update V14 due out April 20, 2020

I am extremely grateful for JohnL and Forceflow2 . Thanks Guys and much appreciated for your help.

Has anyone successfully downloaded the map update from the Navigation Updater Utility? I have tried several times and it stops at 85% with a file size error.

Does anyone have this update somewhere where I could download it?

Worked first time for me. If you are running into problems with the official download check the file JohnL put on Icedrive, link should be on the previous page.

NAVIGATION SOFTWARE UPDATE 14 NOT FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH 2018 STINGER GT2

Ordered update with SD card labeled 142S5_A; version number from the SD card file CK.USA.SOP.V115.200401.STD_H, and installed. Everything look great with updated features EXCEPT I can not navigate to a specific address like: 123 Oak Street, Anywhere, US State. The “Address” icon from before is gone and in it’s place they say to use the magnifying glass.

From my reading the features of the new update and talking to the EVO support staff, the new version is coded to access a cloud based server for addresses instead of the files on the SD card as before. EXCEPT, the 2018 Stinger GT2 is not compatible with that feature; so they built in a work around to try to access the address files they added to the SD card so it functions like before.

The coding works with a previous destination, added with the original version and saved when it updated so that is not the issue., the issue is there is no input screen or menu for a specific address like 123 Oak St., Anywhere, US State to which to navigate.

The magnifying glass icon takes you to an input line that is structured for POI, not a specific address. It ask for Name, address zip code etc to ONLY search for a POI and if you put in an address like 123 Oak St, it searches and will give the closes matches to a POI, not an address. It particularly has search return problems with an out of state address you try to input.

Thankfully, if you are going on a long trip, you can input the zip code for the city as a POI and it will give you guidance, so the highways between your origin and destination cities have updated guidance. It may be possible when you get to the destination city to find the street as a POI but not sure.

I also tried the voice input with the same results; that doesn't work either for a specific address--works OK for POI

So to use the update, I will need to open my Waze or goggle map or other navigation app on my phone to get to the specific address. Or just forget the navigation all together.

There may be one other work around I have not tried, that is to enter my 123 Oak St, Anywhere, US State in my phone contacts and the sync the address book and then maybe I can find it in the address book, but why does the Kia navigation program do that as before.

I have tried re installing 4 times, spent hours trying to find a way to enter a specific address but have not been successful. Note: there is no guidance in the magnifying glass input as to format such as a comma or space or whatever between address fields.

If you update the map software to version 14 in your 2018 Stinger GT2, be aware it is not fully compatible.

I don't have a solution but a possible workaround for now. Download the Uvo app on your phone, click on the My POI, then next screen bottom right corner press the magnifying glass. You can type in a physical address, search, then save the address as a POI. Sync it with your car and you are all set. I use this method a lot for addresses because uvo app uses google maps to search for addresses.

That sounds likely, but they didn't pull down the actual servers or block anything so stuff is still downloadable.

Speaking of which, has anyone tried to download the Sorento data again today? I did just to see and it's currently at about 60%, which is way more than it was before. Wondering if something got fixed or if it's potentially because I changed my VPN endpoint again.

Y'all are much braver than I. I tried downloading the updater app and when I only saw "Korea" as an option, I quit. I am sure there are lots of regional and head unit version issues to sort out. I'll wait until Kia has their ... stuff ... together.

jazzdabb probably has the right idea, to be honest. Regardless, looks like the 2016-2018 Sorento download completed successfully for me, so interested to know if anyone wants it or if the download appears fixed for others.

Thanks, seems like an OK work around and probably can enter the POI in the app at home before getting into the car.

The 2016-2018 USA Sorento download still fails for me. Maybe you can post it somewhere for us :)

I've downloaded the files JohnL posted, but how do you build the file system? There are 36 files I downloaded, but how show it look when I load the files to the SD card? The files need to be in specific folders, but I don't see instruction on how to build the SD card folders with the 36 files I downloaded.

It's a multi-part zip file that depending on your setup, you can probably unzip by double-clicking on the file that ends with ".zip". That will unzip all the .z01/.z02/... files for you. If that doesn't work, google "how to unzip multi-part zip file" for lots of examples on how to do it for your specific platform.

As long as the SD card is already formatted as FAT32, then you can copy over the unzipped files into the SD card, such that it matches the directory structure in the earlier screenshot.

@JohnL I installed the update using your upload and it worked perfectly. Thank you!!

I'm hoping an unlisted change is improvements to CarPlay reliability. I see the CarPlay album art on the Kia home screen was made larger, so that's at least one unspecified improvement. I assume there are some unlisted reliability fixes included as is common with most software updates.

On v13.5, I had different CarPlay problems that require unplugging/plugging the phone back in to fix. Some issues I've had prior to the update:
  • Static/poor quality audio via Spotify
  • Music in Spotify not autoplaying when car is started
  • Maps not keeping up with vehicle location
I'll post here if there's any improvement in CarPlay after updating it to the latest.

I tried updating Sunday. I spent 6 hours trying to figure it out. Finally gave up. Turns out the update corrupted my SD card.

I have no Nav. I called consumer affairs. They had NO IDEA that KIA even had that website. Guy told me "We don't know, you need to call the dealer". So I called the dealer and they said "That's not a service warranty, that's a parts warranty" so I get transferred and I was told "that's not a KIA Dealer issue, that's a KIA issue call MAPnSoft" so I call MAPnSoft and they say "Call KIA Consumer affiars"

I am so close to an early lease termination it's not even funny. I love this car with all my heart but the dealers, and KIA make it so hard to love this car anymore.

So am I to understand that the V14.x version does NOT have searchable address capability (from onboard maps) without some type of internet connection to the servers? That just doesn't sound right
