Navigation Update V14 due out April 20, 2020

Only 1 version of the voice search (ONLINE search in Canada was broken)
Were you using that broken version?

Version 13.0 = (NAM.12.41.51) (in Canada),(this version BROKE the online local search)
Version 13.5 = (NAM.12.47.44.xxx) - I am using this version today. - online voice search works perfectly. (CANADA)
Version 14.0 = (NAM.13.41.42.xxx) - available for purchase + shipping. (you can not download this version yet)
Nope, I'm on 13.5 as well. When I try to use the car voice command for nav and ask it for places, it never knows what I'm talking about. The voice command works if I tell it an address but that just saves me a slight bit of time from manually inputting and most of the time, I don't know the actual address of a place or business. The in-built voice command and nav is just plain useless and dumb for me.

I mean this sincerely, but see you using it correctly?

Don't get me wrong, the use method is stupid... But it does work for me about 99 percent of the time.

The button on the steering wheel is for local commands... Like "Call John" or "Go home"

The button on the mirror uses online search and is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than the button on the steering wheel.

Here is a video of it taking everything I throw at it. (First search was using the steering wheel button to show that always fails)
All subsequent searches were with the mirror button.

Wow okay, so I guess I have been using it wrong. I had no idea about the mirror button and have only been struggling with the steering wheel button. Very stupid and unintuitive indeed. In your video, the mirror button works much better and it's more like what I had been expecting for a $50k car but it's baffling why the steering wheel button brings up a very dumbed down version of the assistant. Now I'm hoping v14.5 or whatever is next after v14 somehow brings the steering wheel assistant more on par with the mirror assistant. Multiple personality disorder on a car? Thank you for correcting me and I'll give this a try next time.

Yeah... It's extra stupid.

The steering wheel button seems to allow very specific internal commands only (no internet).

The mirror button is more like a fuzzy search, online with internet.

I do like how you can Interrupt at any time. Google and Siri don't even. Allow that.

I would much rather the steering wheel button allow for both local commands as well as internet searches. Hopefully in next versions :)

Oh wow, first thing I noticed is your mirror is very different to my US 2019 GT2 mirror. I don't have a button like that on mine.

I just went out for a little drive and notice something else ridiculous. The mirror assistant will find what you're looking for and set a route for you but only the steering wheel assistant can cancel the route. The mirror assistant can't figure out how to cancel a route no matter how I word it. So it seems like the steering wheel assistant is suppose to be the true "AI assistant" except she can't search for anything while the mirror "assistant" only understands search queries and can't do anything else. I guess this is another reason a Kia Stinger is cheaper than an equivalent Audi S5.

The steering wheel talks to the phone you have paired, and ATM google assistant is pretty much broken since the last AA update, (and carplay always sucked) the mirror only uses "Kia's" voice search / recognition. (I read somewhere that's is done by Microsoft, which surprised me that it wasn't Samsung, (Bixby) or Blackberry (QNX) QNX does probably 80% of all car infotainment systems.

There is a lot of (unnecessarily) complex software in the car - just go over to the "Auto stop/start not working" and see how many are confused by the dozen or so parameters that control it...:p

Recently I "discovered" even the radio controls (AM/FM - don't know about XM as it sounds like trash) have a little extra complexity I wouldn't expect. When you are on any page other than "RADIO" (on the touchscreen) the "UP" button on the wheel goes up through your presets - ie Preset 1, Preset 2, 3, etc..... But if you are on the "RADIO" page it moves UP the list, so if you are on preset 3, up goes to 2, then 1 o_Oo_O (mind blown) why not make "UP" the same everywhere? to me it seems like extra code (and testing, troubleshooting) for no gain. but having said that I'm actually impressed they went to this level of attention to detail

short press on steering wheel button calls the UVO system voice.
long press gets you to Siri or Google on your connected bluetooth phone.

not sure if functionality changes when using full android auto or carplay.

I think with AA or Carplay it always goes to Siri/Google, as I have always done a quick press, and have my phone connected to AA, (USB) and it brings up google

The long press does not get to Google like it does to Siri on an iPhone via Bluetooth. (this is on a US GT2 and a Pixel). The following message is displayed: "This feature is available when you connect . . . -an iPhone supporting Siri using Bluetooth" For Google one needs to connect via USB. I had an iPhone previously and it worked fine.

I don't use AA because all the music I listen to is on USB memory sticks (thousands of songs). My previous vehicle had an SD Card slot (music and/or video) and two USB slots (that would read files, not just charge).

That's a Kia thing. My Forte behaves the same way. And Forte forums are filled with the same WTF posts.

It wasn’t always that way, my 2015 genesis sedan always did up for up and down for down until the update that enabled CarPlay. I think what they should have done is make preset #1 at the bottom of the list instead of the top so they wouldn’t have to switch the motion. I get why they did it; when you’re not looking at the radio preset screen it should be up to seek to the next numerically higher preset #. But since the preset list is numbered from the top of the screen down, going”up” to the next preset # needs to take you down the list. That’s why it’s reversed when you’re looking at the preset list.

Just curious if anyone knows, would a dealer be able to upgrade the version without doing the download process at home? Was recently at the dealer last week and asked if they saw this update available and the service guy only said nothing flagged.

I hope so. I'm not sure of another way for GT owners to update at all since we don't have either an SD card or a slot for one.

Are you saying you don’t have a door that reads “SD Map” above your hazard light button.

Definitely curious about your statement that your car does not have an SD card. Where are the maps stored?

It would appear that you can pay a dealer to do it (you should be able to pay them to do anything) based on this communication from Nov 7, 2019, 4:16 PM.

Read the fine print in the attached screenshot, specifically the asterisk

I set a calendar event in my phone. I think I'm still on V11. I'm hoping to get this upgrade done and post on here with an update when(if) it's released for download.
