You downloaded the 27 gigs of update data?
Or you downloaded the setup file?

You need to use your VIN number so I don't see how you could get the data for a wrong car

What is this version 144 you are referring to?

It took me much longer than I like to admit to undersand that you were referring to the following:

Ah, I got confused on the whole 141 to 142 conversation and saw that he had the 141 in his screen shot which is US and thought he had found a loop hole

When I go there and try to click on the download for windows link all I get is the “Grand Opening” popup. Nothing happens.

It's actually under the other link in that post according to our Canadian brethren; however, the free download option is not yet available in the USA. When it is available, you will be able to chose between buying the pre-loaded SD card from Kia for $25+shipping or downloading the data onto your own SD card for free. That makes the purpose of the update.kia.com website unclear at this point, IMO.

I had no options or choice of anything other than the update for my VIN#

Downloaded the Canadian just to test. It's different, the install PDFs show it. S3 is US, S4-S5 is Canada. The file is NAM which means it's the Canadian update, not US.

Can we just buy an sd card from our local shops? It would definitely be cheaper.

Is there any reason why we need to purchase it from Kia?

It probably just a Linux file system and there is free software available over the internet to create a Linux file system on an sd card.

Has anyone looked at what file system is on the sd card?

You can use any SD card over 32Gb. I installed the update on a new card, put the one that came with my car away as an emergency backup should the one in use fails.
