• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

MY21 Aussie Release Date

I find this very hard to achieve.. like am I meant to monitor my RPM for 1000kms? I use cruise control basically everywhere
You don’t need to be that strict with it, just don’t flog the guts out of it in that first 1000km just drive normally, smooth acceleration rather than booting it etc. Try to avoid cruise where possible for those first 1000km but if you have to on a freeway for example so be it. Just balance it out with some stop start city driving.

Can someone answer a few questions for me please?

  • What's the lowest speed that you can reactivate cruise control?
  • Is there a speed threshold for the lane keeping features?
  • When you choose 'Active' over 'Standard' for lane keeping, around town does it always try and keep you in the middle of the lane or revert to the normal just pinging you between lanes etc. Or when you go to a higher speed does it change to active?
  • Is active LKA (Lane Keep Assist) different to LFA?
Just trying to gauge what does what when, if I had an owners manual at my use then I'd refer to that :p
Active cruise can basically control the car down to a complete stop but I’ve never trusted it enough to do it and always end up hitting the brake. Lowest I’ve let it go was from just over 110 down to 50-60 in a roadworks zone before I felt the car in front was coming up a little too quick. It’s been a while since I read the manual but I think the lowest you can set it is 60 although why would you? Use it for freeway driving and then turn it off.
Why would you use LKA around town? It’s not worth it, if you can’t keep your lane on suburban streets at low speeds hand you’re licence back and catch the bus :p That being said on a more serious note you’ll find LKA isn’t as effective on suburban roads as many of them don’t have the marked edge lines like a freeway/highway does. Minimum speed it works to is about 60kph I think.
Not sure of the max speed LKA will work but it works fine at 110 on the freeway so shouldn’t be an issue. You’ll find active LKA can be annoying/off putting when you feel the constant automated inputs on the steering wheel. I really only bother using it when I’m tired as a back up plan. Same thing applies for freeways as suburban streets re what I said above about catching the bus. Nothing worse than trying to overtake and the numpty in front drifts towards your lane as you begin to accelerate. As for LKA and LFA try this link.

Every car I've driven with active cruise etc the minimum for it to engage is 30km, but doesnt the stinger have "follow mode" where it will completely stop the car, then you just tap accelerator or cruise resume button and the car will take off again and follow the car in front?

I have no idea, I’d have to read the manual again and that won’t be happening unless I really need to. It will bring you to a complete stop if the traffic in front of you stops but like I said I’ve never trusted it to do it. As for restarting it not sure have to read the manual. As far as engaging it at speeds as low as 30, why would you? That’s just lazy driving and defeats the purpose of having the type of car the Stinger is if all you want to do is run cruise control regardless of speed. Cruise control by its very nature is for cruising which generally speaking is considered to be highway/freeway driving or long country roads not the stop start of suburbia.

Disagree.. stop start when in city traffic is awesome! And it's not really cruise control per say... There's no fun crawling along at 20km and hour and then stopping at every lights. That's where the follow mode comes into its own.

Yes it's a stinger but you'd be driving like an absolute flog to accelerate like crazy every time traffic moves 40m

Disagree all you want mate I could care less. Crawling along at 20km is no fun regardless of whether you’re controlling the acceleration or letting the car do it. But then if you can avoid driving in Sydney and driving at peak times it’s not really a major problem most of the time.

I never said anything about accelerating like crazy every time the traffic moves, that’s your interpretation.

Maybe you should wait until you actually own a Stinger and have done more than a dealer test drive before commenting too much on what the car can/can’t do or should/shouldn’t do. Read the manual, drive the car then comment based on actual experience.

Yeah I never flog the guts out of my car, tbh the only time my stinger will be floored is probably on the highway overtaking. Would be stupid to do it around town.
My cruise control habits consist of speeding up to the minimum that it’ll activate (30 as I’ve know been told) and then flick it up to resume the speed (normally 60/70). But yeah where I live I hit traffic lights all the time so should be balanced I hope.

Yeah it’s not that I intend to rely on it, I just want to know what does what and when it does. In my dads car it only has the lane keep which pings you off the paint, it’s a pain in the arse when trying to look infront of a car to see if you can overtake with the oncoming traffic, when you look ahead it steers you back in. Very annoying. Thanks for the link too

No problem, it does get annoying when you feel the constant movement of the steering wheel especially if you’re not used to it. The technology in it is good but ultimately it still doesn’t compare the the Mk1 human eyeball. It’s a good backup but like most things don’t rely on it completely. Active cruise can be annoying at times as well as it tends to slow you down a bit too early at freeway speed when coming up behind another car. Mine is set at the minimum distance but even then it leaves too big of a gap at times which just encourages other belters to try and squeeze in between you and the car in front. Also it tends to jump on the brakes rather than a gradual slow down by just easing off the accelerator like a human would do. Biggest fear with it is not that I’ll tap the car in front but more of it slowing down to quick and the one behind hitting me. What can I say maybe I’m just a control freak but when it comes to driving that’s not a bad way to be.

For those that have been thru ordering a new MY21 GT, excluding accessories (mats, etc), what are the order options? Seems to me it just 2, select paint and leather colour?

Yep. Excluding accessories the exterior and leather colour are the only real decisions to make. Stinger comes fully loaded with no “optional packs” to purchase.

Get a commitment from the dealer re delivery dates. Seems to be fluctuating a lot. Any slip on the date and ask for your deposit back.

Just seen a listing on carsales of a MY21... what have they done to the screen? The shading up the top, the off-centre speed, no cool lines anymore?

Much prefer the old design, don't like how the speed now has a 'shiny' look to the numbers too

You can change it, there's like 3 different styles to choose from

Ceramic Grey with red leather is now home. It arrived at the dealer just before New Years but this was the first chance to collect it.

Congrats @roadrunner ! Looks sweet AF! Can't wait for mine.

When did you order your car? Still getting bullshit talk around from my dealer saying it won't be until April... Despite having ordered in November!

I ordered my car on 20 Nov. April is crazy - I would call a few other dealers and see if someone has stock or can provide a solid date. Then pressure your dealer that if they don't provide a suitable date then you want your deposit back.

I actually prefer displaying the temp/boost/torque graphs in the cluster and using the heads up for the speed.
