Kill Tally

In this case, he probably thought you meant drivetrain, since that part was not obvious - it was obvious to look at the car that it was missing interior pieces. I'm not saying he was 100% correct in his answer, but I COULD accept that answer with regards to 1/4 mile time...

Based on my extensive time at drag strips, along with activities like car shows, meetups, clubs, etc., I have not found that to be the case. lol

A stock 2016 CTS-V runs 0-60 mph in 3.5 Quarter mile 11.7. This is faster than your JB4 Stinger. If the CTS-V was modded as you claim it would have put buss lengths on you.

So I ran into a modded CTS-V coupe last night, that the owner said dynos at 600+ horsepower. I can't say it was a kill, since he pulled about a car ahead from a dig [later found out he was on slicks, while I spun all the way through first], but from a roll he simply could not keep up. We went at it several times, each time I pulled away. I'm guessing their engine is tuned for more power down low?

Either way it was a good race. Funny thing is, I came across him while he was racing another car (modded Charger). They slowed and were pacing each other but he abandoned the Charger when I sped past them, and came after me...lol.

There is no way you beat a modded CTS-V.

Add another BMW M-series to my kill tally, this time a new M2 Competition model.:D

Had a few empty highway runs and all 3 times I pulled 3/4-1 car length on him. He couldn’t believe it after run 1 and asked for another try 2 more times. After taking a full car on him the last run he waved me down and asked if I had “big turbos”. I laughed and said no and we went on our separate ways after both exchanging a thumbs up.

I’m still in disbelief as I know those M2s are powerful and almost 500lbs lighter. Just makes me love my Stinger even more and keeps a smile on my face everyday.

Thumbs up! I saw a couple of the recent M2s, and I don't like their rounded back end.. Somehow just doesn't look right.

The M4 is a good match up power wise vs the Stinger. However I think the BMW might be lighter, and it shifts faster.

Those are huge advantages. I need 4 doors and the trunk space.

Tell me about it. We BARELY squeezed into a used M3 CS (because the competition seats were thinner). But it was $60K+ used, and I can't imagine the maintenance...

Maintenance is high. The M3 is now a dedicated 4 door sedan. Great car. I have an e 46. Were it the same price as the Stinger I would pick the M3. It has less plastic than the GT2, the materials are a bit better but taken as a whole, the M3 is not really a huge step up. The Stinger makes the most of less expensive materials. There is leather pretty much everywhere that you will make contact with the interior. I don't really miss a hand stitched leather dashboard. My 2004 E46 does better on the track when pushed to the limit, but the Kia has better straight line performance.

I have not driven a new 4 door M3, but it seems to be a slightly better car for a whole lot more money. The 3.3 has more tuning potential than the 3 liter M3 motor.

Ehhh, I've known a select few people who have no business modding cars that don't realize just how poorly their car is running. The thing about modding is that, well, "mileage varies". Unlike well-engineered cars from the factory with 1000s of hours of testing and design, modding is done with almost no actual engineering outside of the company designing the aftermarket part (and sometimes, even then...). Then you add in that many car guys aren't actually people with automotive knowledge, and it compounds with the possibility of doing more harm than good, or often minimizes gains advertised.

Imagine someone who buys a GT stinger, then buys the LAP3 Pro Tuner. Eventually figuring how to connect the wires by referencing the pictures, he flips this on, it runs, and he selects mode 3 figuring it's the most aggressive stage (mode 3 is the WMI stage). His Stinger is bone stock everywhere else. He's going to probably run 20HP more than stock at best but be running like crap overall, but tell everyone he's chipped running 500HP.

So I now have newfound respect for the Civic type R. Had a nice little run-in with a tuned one (I assume tuned, he had a digital display of some kind on the A pillar) from ~10 mph up to handcuff speeds and I couldn't pull away from him. I've walked away from several expensive and powerful V8 monsters, but couldn't shake a little turbo 4, that didn't even sound like it had an intake or exhaust (unless mine drowned his out).

Pretty impressive I must admit.

Did some research (love research) and there's multiple vids on YT showing modded Type R quarter mile/dyno results.

Tuned/bolt on versions are running 13.1-13.2 quarters.

Tune itself raises stock boost from 18 psi to 27 peak (25 psi average), resulting in ~50 peak hp gain at the wheels. So that little encounter you had with a tuned Type R was making ~350 hp at the crank.

I always love it when a car is surprisingly fast, but that Civic Type R had to be modified quite a bit to hang with you if you run 12.1 in the 1/4 mi. Did you get a look inside the car? Was there no interior except a driver seat? :p

IKR....I didn't get a chance to talk to him but I really want to know what he's done to it. I've seen some high HP type Rs hanging with scatpacks, coyotes and Camaro SSs but they all had full bolt ons. This one had stock exhaust so moving that fast without a lot of noise was like taking on a Tesla.

Well, maybe it wasn't stock exhaust, but you drowned out whatever he did have with yours  Either that, or your car isn't running right... Might want to take a "test Dragy" run later tonight, haha

True they are no joke especially once they are moving. It’s all about power to weight ratio. Those light FWD cars with high boost do best on rolls. That’s why those civics only want to do roll races. Bet if you took him from a dig it would have been a different story.;)

Had a go with a MB E43 AMG today. I was pulling on him until we hit a speed trap, and both slowed right the hell down. Praise the lord we didn’t get nailed by one of those Mexican police officers.

Might be time to invest in a good radar detector. Unless the Mexican Police are using laser, then a laser jammer might do the trick. I have been to Puerto Penasco, the cops there just pulled over anyone going faster then them. Which was not many because those cops raced like crazy. They also used speed signs for target practice, but that's a story for another time. You must have been in a different part of Mexico ;)
