Kia Stinger Navigation Map Update

That link is on the mapnsoft website, too.
Thanks, that will come in handy - didn't see the giant 'MAP ERROR REPORTER' tab on their menu bar - might be time for a new prescription ... :)

Didn't see any way to edit the map. No Help link? Strange web site.

No Help link?
Click on the 'I' icon on the top right side of the page, to the left of the language setting (EN) - that goes to Help, which details the editing process as well as setting up a HERE account. There's also a 'feedback' link at the bottom right, to report 'Other' problems.

??? This is what I get when I go to the link just posted above:

I don't see an "I" icon or a language setting or a Feedback link. If I click on a street, it does bring up a sidebar menu to the left to make editing suggestions. Speed limit is not one of them.

Yes, I think you have to register to edit and wait for the acknowledgement before you can sign in. Figured it out. Needed to change some speed limits on a local highway.

Select the 'MAP ERROR REPORTER' on MnSoft | KIA Map Update (US) (US) or MnSoft | KIA Map Update (CAN) (Canada).

Yes, that works. So, great. We can all go in there and fix the errors that may or may not get accepted by HERE and may or may not get adopted by KIA in time for their update cycle so we can then pay top dollar to have them, eventually, in our car.

Sorry, I will (and do) contribute to open source maps or Google that is available for free, but I am not going to update a map I have to pay top dollar for--that's the publisher's job. If they can't afford to send thousands of people out to update (obviously), then we should be using open source maps. At least when they are similarly out of date, we didn't have to pay for it.

I am an advocate of open source maps (obviously). But regardless, what is KIA thinking when they also provide for Android Auto or Apple Car Play that can access better and continuously updated maps for free?

Unfortunately neither Waze nor Google Maps are integrated into the HUD system

Agreed. Since we're paying for NAV and it is integrated into HUD, better to have a reasonable approach to it--not rely on people being frustrated and using their own phones relieving KIA of responsibility.

Talked to Kia Canada today on the update this morning, and they were very friendly and helpful. She did need to go research the question and call me back (about 5 minutes later). Some additional info - she said there was a six month window after car purchase to request the update, and that once a file/case number was generated on it, the one time update could be purchased from MNSOFT at any point in the future, then submitted for reimbursement.

For example, if your existing/previous version map quality was decent in the area you are in, you could wait a year or more until substantial changes were made, and then do the reimbursable update. In Calgary we've had a bunch of road construction in the past couple of years, so I expect I'll be updating sooner rather than later - but it's nice to have that option ...

I use both Waze and Kia together. Waze gives me other user input for current road conditions but I like the turn indicators in the HUD. But I always double-check with Waze to make sure they agree.

Reimbursement from whom? My dealer said it is from the dealer and they already offered me to wait if I preferred.

It is totally unfair to ask the dealer to subsidize this. Do they have to pay for all the TSB work that is required before releasing the car?

I would be happy to wait a year for maps, but the other updates that are embedded with the maps are important and needed now. KIA will either figure-out how to separate those or they will be paying for my update now and later when I need new maps and in between if more non-map updates are issued in the interim.

This has nothing to do with the dealer. Reimbursement is by KIA.

Can I ask how you file a reimbursement claim? I assume you'll need your receipt - do you make the file with customer service? Is there an e-mail you can use to submit?

First you have to open a file/case with Kia Canada - use the contact number on their website. They'll provide the details on reimbursement, you basically send a receipt and the file number (important!) to the email they provide.

Keep in mind the information I provided is strictly word of mouth from a KIA CSR - while I expect it is accurate, make sure you confirm the details with them when you are on the phone. The fact that she had to call me back after checking into it, and seemed certain of the process after doing so, would suggest they have developed a policy on this.

Thanks, good to hear. I called that customer service line a few weeks ago when I updated my NAV and the person I spoke to was completely useless - said the dealership was responsible for reimbursement. Nice to know you have the ability to cover an update expense down the road, but I guess the catch is to open up that file/case within the 6 months.

The whole process is ridiculous. I have already stated why above, so won't repeat.

It will be interesting to see what all updates in this version of the map on the way around here locally. I know of about 20 speed limit corrections and a few miles of time zone data that need corrected as well from the limited attention I've paid to the maps.

Somewhere, maybe through the UVO app, you are supposed to be able to update the AndroidAuto or ApplePlay at no cost, exclusive of the nav map. No updates yet announced for those.
